  1. there were 140 CJB as of last week. I need to get this.
  2. My copy of Ellington's 65-72 recordings "disappeared" some time ago and I need to replace it. All good suggestions above-I'd add a French cd I bought on ebay a few years ago-DE and his orchestra at the Theatre des Champs Elysees 1/29-30/65. An excellent recording and the band is in fine form with an interesting set of older and recent compositions. Disc 2 leads off with Take.... which takes a while to get going as Duke is late to the stage due to an overlong session with his hairdresser! Recommended.
  3. the 6-4-78 sb of the UCSB show is up on dime and worth a download. It features the band in fine form with the famous "Harley" intro to NFA.
  4. BUMP! If just a few folks will paypal Jim $10 every month, he could at least break even with board expenses. I don't think $10 is a lot to ask. Jim doesn't like to ask for donations so I will. Don't you enjoy this forum?? Think about it!!!
  5. one of my jazz heroes-didn't realize he had served time. Thanks for the article. I first saw the Heath Brothers in college almost thirty years ago and it remains a great memory. I remember seeing the first show and then running back to the dorm to grab a few folks for the late performance-they were that good. I only wish more of their CBS recordings were available on cd. I have the collectables twofer which I think was poorly remastered-still some great music though
  6. BTW everyone, The board needs some bucks. Jim told me that he's still running a deficit every month for operations costs so this "heckler" just made a small donation and I encourage everyone to do the same!!!
  7. It was fun meeting all the board members! mrjazz was heckling us the whole time, but that's ok.
  8. What a night! To those area members who weren't there-YOU MISSED IT! Good to see Bertrand and meet Son of Weizen (sp). Jim seems to think they'll be in the area again in the near future.
  9. I called Twins. 1st show is at 8 with a $10 cover and $10 minimum. I'll be there before the show. I think I will recognize Bertrand as we met a few years ago.
  10. Well, at this point I'm flexible early so I may get down there and grab a bite somewhere before the show. I strongly advise the subway (be sure to take the 13th street exit) as, unless you get there at 630 when rush hour parking restrictions end, finding a parking place can be tough. Twins is right at the subway entrance/exit.
  11. I should be there for the early show at least. Who else?
  12. "Intensity" another must have Earland. Lee Morgan's last session.
  13. Saw that later tour too - Boris the Spider was a highlight umm that was 1989 not 87 and I also saw their rendition of Tattoo. I saw the 96 Quadrophoenia tour and that was a lot of fun even if the Ox was generally buried in the mix. A Naked Eye encore was truly special. I saw the 2000 tour which was also generally good with some excellent quad material. I have mixed feelings about Rabbit on keys as I think he overplays a lot. Zak Starkey is the real deal and their best drummer after Keith. When the Ox died that was it for me as Pino was an uninspired replacement choice. I'm collecting as much of the Moon years as possible these days.
  14. agree. I enjoy this collection quite a lot. Easy to find-ebay, half, etc.
  15. saw Bruce Hornsby last night and he was smoking. One of the many highlights was his "Grateful Dead" version of Valley Road-he referenced the Wembley arena show in 1990 with his first Dead tour. I saw his first show with the boys at MSG a few weeks prior and many more. He always pushed the band in the right direction.
  16. gotta add a shout out-Happy Birthday to one of my favorite artists!
  17. I've thought of buying an external HD (USB) but I love to burn those shows on CDRS and place them in my storage shelf. On the other hand those copies take lot's of space and I have only a very small listening environment.Maybe I'll buy the external HD when I run out of space in this room. check out buy.com for externals-they have good deals all the time. I just bought an IOmega 250 gig external for about $100 total.
  18. I have the Proper Fats. IMO, one of their better foursomes.
  19. I know only about dimeadozen.org (home to a lot of Jazz such as Trane, the AEC, etc.), but not "zomb." Perhaps those in the know might list a few download sites. These sites tend to host only "legal" downloads, so there is no "moral" hangover involved. [/quote zombie torrents and trader's den are two i look at. There are a lot out there-google bit torrent sites
  20. there have been almost all of the fabled May 77 soundboards (all good SQ and some absolutely pristine) for down load on dime and zomb torrent sites-also other sites as well. I just got a nice copy of the great 5-9-77 show with one of my all time favorite 1st sets. Out there for free! For now
  21. Gotta agree; however I found a $20 cd storage unit on ebay that while not fancy at all, does the trick. It's unfinished so you can stain it. Storage just ain't worth big bucks since one day sooner than you might think, you'll have everything on a drive anyway.
  22. I've never bought the actual cd but have all tracks (i think) scattered across several other cds. It is a gem. Probably due for a remastering (if it hasn't already occurred). any unreleased stuff if there is any from the sessions would be nice as well. Elis, yet another drug casualty
  23. PM sent yesterday re the "Dynamic Duo"
