Branch out into painting- paint a room & point out to HQ how much a painter would charge, etc. This may be worth a Mosaic per room!

The reaction over a Duff/HalfBuck pairing would be a howl for two reasons: 1)She's about 16 years old!, 2) She presents quite a different image from Janet Jackson(at least to this point!). Thus far, Duff has done innocuous television shows(I've watched every episode of Lizzie McGuire with my 11-year old son, and there is nothing at all objectionable about them- they're even funny sometimes), some movies that are also innocent, and some candy-coated pop music(She is similar to Janet Jackson in one respect- her singing voice is thin and weak.) Janet Jackson wears outfits that look like S&M gear, and I watched part of one of her concerts on HBO once where she did what amounted to a lap dance on one of the audience members. Given that, it's not a big surprise that she would do something like pop a boobie. A few years from now, maybe Duff will go down that road, but for now she's not like that. Spears and HalfBuck would not create a hue & cry because of the public perception of her as a 'wild child' who'd do anything. I think making a racial issue out of this is off-track. On another note, I saw some of the lyrics to what P. Diddy rapped at that infamous halftime show, and people should be a lot more offended about that. When contacted concerning the content of his rap, his spokeperson supposedly said, in effect, 'So what?'. That troubles me a lot more than a 'wardrobe malfunction' So when I come out of the bathroom unzipped, is that also a 'WM'- just asking...

I haven't check out these sites myself, but they look interesting: http://theory.tifr.res.in/bombay/history/people/cuisine/ http://www.cuisinecuisine.com/HomePage.htm http://www.gadnet.com/recipes.htm Let me know how it turns out or if I can help with my limited knowledge of Indian cuisine.

I don't know of any cookbooks, as the one I have was originally printed around 1950 and is very stilted in terms of language, but have you looked online? If you're looking for a particular recipe there are quite a few websites full of recipes for virtually every cuisine. If you don't have much in the way of spices you will need a nice collection to cook Indian food the right way, such as turmeric, mustard seeds, cardomom, garam masala, etc. As soon as I find a website I'll pass along the link.

What's he going to do when he needs reeds? -
'Third Stone from the Sun' 'Castles made of Sand' 'Red House' (almost any version) But this is a tough one, as I love 'If 6 was 9', 'Fire', any cut from the 'Band of Gypsys' album, Jimi's version of 'Sunshine of your Love', etc. etc. etc.

Why can't Booby Knight just go away????
PHILLYQ replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
if you want to make Bobby Knight go away, send him on a plane to Puerto Rico and alert the authorities there. It seems that he is still wanted for assaulting a police officer there some time ago. WHAT A JERK! -
Sad story about Earl Campbell on espn.nfl
PHILLYQ replied to connoisseur series500's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Berigan, That was Jim Otto, who played center for about 15 years for the Raiders. It takes him about 30 minutes just to get his pants on! They had a picture of his knee in that Sports Illustrated article, and by looking at it you would never know that it was a human knee. It was so twisted it looked like something from a horror movie. -

Sad story about Earl Campbell on espn.nfl
PHILLYQ replied to connoisseur series500's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
There was a story done on Earl Campbell on HBO's 'Real Sports' with Bryant Gumbel about a year ago. To see a guy who used to pound people for a living being barely able to walk up two or three steps was very sad. He's a little younger than me, I believe, and he pretty much sacrificied his body for the game of football. So when someone complains about football player's salaries, I think of him and some of the players I read about in Sports Illustrated who are virtual cripples because of football and I think, if anything they were underpaid. Think about being 40-45 years old and unable to walk up your front stairs! In the Sports Illustrated article they also mentioned a guy who was a defensive back for Washington(can't recall his name) who has had so much nerve damage that he can't hold his baby girl for fear of dropping her, and he's under 40. What a price some of these guys pay to play football... -

Blue Mitchell Mosaic Set Or Electric Bill
PHILLYQ replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
You gotta have juice, man... You can catch up to Blue Mitchell on Ebay if you miss it now, but no juice creates some serious problems for food storage, bathroom in the dark, etc. However, that installment plan idea is a verrrrry interesting third(compromise) option... -
Conn, I tend to think that Lombardi would be a great coach today for two main reasons:1) His attention to detail, & 2) His ability to motivate his players. In those two respects he is very much like a present-day very successful coach, Bill Parcells. The only problem Lombardi would have today is with the salary cap & the attendant instability that causes on team rosters. In his time, you had some good players and you kept them until they couldn't produce enough for the team. Now, a good player may only be around for a few years, and then he's off to another team. The obverse side of that is if a team makes a mistake in signing someone, they either have tio take a salary cap hit or live with an unproductive player for a season or two. Even given that, I believe that Lombardi would adapt and figure out how to get the best out of a constantly shifting roster, and his ability to motivate and his attention to detail would give him a leg up on many other coaches. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Belichik is a great coach, no question about that, but his GM should get some credit for drafting well, stockpiling draft picks and managing the salary cap so well. That has become very important in the present age of the salary cap.

I saw a story about Detroit's negotiations with Pudge, and Scott Boras claims that a team is offering 4years at $40mil. So far, Detroit is the only team making an offer to Pudge, and the rumors are that the offer is for considerably less than that, even less than what the Marlins offered & Pudge declined. It looks like the M's may be the only way that Pudge starts the season on time, because Detroit may only be a straw man for Boras, and the Marlins now can't sign him until May. That would certainly be a big addition for the M's.

Tod Zeile is in Queens with the Mets- they signed him to a one-year deal. As Bud Abbot would say, 'I don't know is on third.'

I was reading this thread on Friday while at work, and inspired & intrepid(Some may say foolish!), I decided to take the plunge and I faxed an order for the Fisherman.com disc and a couple of other Laswell discs from DMG. On Saturday I had to stay home for a furniture delivery, so I figured I'll listen to some Laswell. While waiting at home, the mailman arrives with the discs I ordered the day before! I know it's delivery within the same city, but DMG got the order out the same day(I faxed the order Friday afternoon around 3PM) and the Postal Service delivered it the next day-great job of delivery for both parties. The Fisherman.com disc was very enjoyable. It was a pleasure to hear Pete Cosey still crankin' it up with the distortion on high- that guy can wail, and he gets some spce to do so on this disc. Pricey disc, but worth it IMHO.

Dixon has already had his scholarship offer revoked and he's in jail right now- that's really sick! To get ten years for consensual sex with another teenager! It does also point out the problems inherent in mandatory sentencing- not all 'crimes' are exactly the same, and justice must sometimes be tempered with mercy. With mandatory sentencing, all actions are tarred with the same brush and the judges have no discretion. This is another example of the law of unintended consequences. Crack down on crime and we wind up jailing kids for sex...

Philly, Welcome from PHILLYQ- I have no connection with the city myself.Talk about a Bizarro world- are there others with similar names to Organissimo members? This could be very interesting.

It's not really bad, but definitely not up to the level of the Stern Groove shows- it seems that the group doesn't cohere as tehy do on Stern Groove. Caveat Emptor!

I would heartily recommend the live Tabla Beat Science double disc. It features the beautiful vocals of Gigi on some cuts, and the combination of turntables, tablas, drums, dub bass & Aramaic vocals is sometimes otherworldly. Somehow it all works coherently. Don't buy the DVD of Tabla Beat Science, however- it comes from a different performance and seems to lack the fire and drive of the CD.

It actually does get better, even with a baby with colic(My heart goes out to you and your wife on that- hang in there). You might wnt to try some soothing music for later in the day with your daughter to help ease her into the night hours. I played 'Crystal Silence' by Chick Corea & Gary Burton many times while giving my son his last bottle of the day, and it seemed to help him into the transition to sleep. I'm sure you have many discs that have some soothing ballads, etc. thatyou canenjoy and that help soothe your daughter. Most of all, though, enjoy her developing and growing up- it really is once in a lifetime and is a joy to behold!
