What's your porn star name?

Brandy Grenola has surgically enhanced boobs, blonde hair, comes from California, spouts meaningless 'New Age' aphorisms, and is extremely flexible? -
Dan, I agree with you there about Nick Johnson- I hate the idea of letting him go. What disturbs me is that Vasquez is not signed to an extension. Theoretically, he could pitch one year, then go free agent and stiff the Yankees(Of course Steinbrenner will throw buckets of $$$ at him). The rumor in the NY Daily News today is that the Bosox are trying to trade Ramirez for A-Rod, and that the deal involves the Bosox absorbing a large chunk of Ramirez' $. Nomar then would be dealt for prospects, possibly to Anaheim. For Texas this creates a lot of payroll flexibility, as they no longer have the A-Rod contract and they get Ramirez on the cheap. It looks like Theo Epstein has been given permission to go completely for broke, as the Bosox payroll may start to approach Yankee proportions. If this all works out and the Bosox win the World Series, he'll be called St. Theo in Beantown, and the owner can then have a statue erected in his honor! It is really great that both the Yankees & the Bosox are going at it so heavily in the offseason. I just wish we could find some good dirt on Steinbrenner, get him suspended again and let Gene Michael run the team- he did a great job during the last suspension...

'Lickey Flatbush' ??? That should be worth at least a few comments! -
Count me in as another person disgusted by the nonsense that DEEP has been unleashing on this board. Chris A. has been driven away, one of the few board members who has had personal experience with many of the Jazz greats that we discuss endlessly. Also, Bev, DEEP's other target, seems to have been driven off by DEEP's sophmoric idea of a joke. Bev was a valuable resource on this board for British & European Jazz, quite literate & informative. In essence, DEEP banned them- how are we any better off for this sickening turn of events? DEEP may be a good guy(I've never met him), but his behavior and his subsequent mocking apology are indefensible, uncalled for and horribly uncivil. Shouldn't we be an awful lot more sophisticated than teenage pranks?

I saw something about this culinary concoction in the NY Daily News yesterday. There was a turducken eating contest, featuring Ed'Cookie' Jarvis & Charles'Hungry' Hardy(Both of these guys are in the 4th of July hot dog eating contest at Nathan's in Coney Island every year, and both are over 300lbs.) The winner of the contest was a 130lb. woman! I forget how much she ate,but it was a good pile of that stuff!

If the Bosox make the Manny/A-Rod deal(I would if I'm Theo Epstein), they rid themselves of a guy who is a great hitter but nothing else, and someone who may have ticked off a lot of other players on the team. In return, the Bosox get a guy who can hit as well as Manny, but who has a superlative gloveand some clue when running the bases, for a cost of about $5 mil a year and three additional years. I hope they don't make that deal because I'm a Yankee fan and this deal would make the Bosox better. But whither Nomar? Do they try to move him to second? Do they try to swing a deal? Any deal would be difficult because Nomar is only signed up for next season.

A-Rod playing 81 games at Fenwayper season, with the Green Monster lookin' him in the eye? We could be talking about mass quantities of homers!

Dan, For right now it looks like a good deal for the Bosox- give up very little and get a very good pitcher in return. However, Schilling will not waive his no-trade clause without an extension, so that means three more years at $12 mil+ per year. What will he have left in two years when he's 39? Will he be successful switching leagues? I'm a Yankee fan, and I'm glad that he won't be a Yankee. Steinbrenner was about ready to give up Soriano, Nick Johnson and a Steinbrenner grandchild to be named later for Schilling. If the Bosox get him, at least Steinbrenner can't make a bad deal for Schilling. Of course, there a re a lot of players out there...

I'm going over my sister-in-law's house, in Brooklyn and only about 20 minutes away. There's supposed to be about 20 people, so I'll be making two turkeys, a few pumpkin pies, some cake and a few other goodies and then loading it all into my little car with my wife and son . I do get to go home and sleep in my own bed, so that's nice. But it is a lot of work with all the shopping and cooking- Thanksgiving morning finds me hard at work in the kitchen around 7-8 A.M. and continuing until we leave around 3P.M.

Don't forget the James Brown! When my son was two I started playing JB for him, and he loved to sing along to 'Make it Funky'(easy lyrics), 'Say it Loud...', etc. When he was in first grade he was asked what his favorite singer was and he wrote JB! He's eleven now and taking saxophone lessons and starting to learn a little bit of Bird!

Mine is: 1. Neo-Pagan (100%) 2. Unitarian Universalism (96%) 3. New Age (95%) 4. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (92%) 5. Liberal Quakers (91%) 6. Mahayana Buddhism (91%) 7. Theravada Buddhism (85%) 8. Sikhism (80%) 9. New Thought (72%) 10. Reform Judaism (71%) This is really strange as I was raised as a Roman Catholic.I don't practice anymore because of divorce, birth control, homosexuality, celibacy for clergy- the church sez go one way and I go the other entirely! It looks like I'm closer to a Buddhist. Neo-Pagan sounds like something cool to say at a party when asked for your religion- explaining that is another matter entirely. I live in Brooklyn and my looks suggest Jewish to manypeople. I couldn't tell you how many times people think I'm Jewish and start talking Yiddish or Hebrew to me. As soon as they see that puzzled look on my face they realize- GOYIM! -
DISCLAIMER: I HAVE NO FINANCIAL OR OTHER INTEREST IN THIS COMPANY, BUT THEY DO MAKE SOME GREAT SHIRTS Check out this site for some really cool t-shirts- I've ordered a bunch from them and their prices and service are excellent. Vey good quality tees, and where else could you get a SunRa shirt? http://www.gearink.com/

I have an 11year old son & I've been married 16 years. I have a vague recollection of living before then, and I even have a birth certificate, etc. that prove I did exist before then. Those sleepovers should be called all-nighters! My son & I sometimes go to visit a friend of mine who has a son the same age, and we stay overnight. The next morning he usually looks like he's been up all night, but that's what kids do at that age. I love it!

Many men gain weight after marriage- I've heard them called 'contentment pounds'. I was always around 160lbs. for a long time, then I got married(+10lbs. but I do all the cooking!), I quit smoking (+15 lbs.), my son was born & the stress of a new-born plus night school(+10lbs). Since then(1992), I gained a little bit more 'till I topped the scales at around 210lbs. At 5'8", I had a nice sized gut and butt, and a massive snoring problem to boot. My wife decided to go on Atkins to lose 10-15lbs, and I decided to go on it after she started. I've since gotten down to 169lbs, a mere 9lbs. over my fighting weight from 25 years ago. The weight loss(& some nose surgery to clear a nostril) led to no more snoring, happy wife, well-rested PhillyQ. If you're considering Atkins, you or your significant other have to be good in the kitchen! I'm a real good cook, so I've figured out how to make low-carb versions of some of my favorite foods with help from some websites and cookbooks. I indulge myself every Friday for pizza, and then jump back on the wagon for Saturday. The best part is that I enjoy my food and I am not starving.

Ornette Coleman might want to have an electric guitar or(shudder) an electric bass at the gig, and then Wynton Marsalis would have to escort him out of a concert of his own music!
-
Freddie Hubbard was on a Billy Joel album.

I saw that band with Rufus Harley three times in one week at the Village Vanguard in 1974. For each gig, Rufus Harley wore a different outfit, one night looking like a doctor and I can't recall the other two, but he certainly stood out as a weird guy to me and my friends. In fact, the night he was in the hospital whites, as he came down the stairs to the VV, I was waiting on line on the stairs and I asked if there was a doctor in the house(18year old wiseguy line), and he said "Yes,a witch doctor!" He did play some smoking bagpipes, though, and that band(w Mtume, Cranshaw, Masuo, Lee, & Cowell) was excellent with Sonny.

Have you considered Ebay? I've seen the set for around $40-$50, and with shipping it's still a lot less than 80-90 Euros.

What makes Teo Macero's work even more amazing to me is the level of recording technology at the time. He must have spent many long hours splicing tape and doing other things that would be a snap with today's technology.

There was an album by Arthur Blythe around 1978/9 titled 'In the Tradition'. I doubt that it's available on cd, but if you happen to come across it, grab it. Along with Blythe & Cowell are Fred Hopkins & Steve McCall, and they cover Jitterbug Waltz, Naima, One Mint Julep, etc. Cowell plays very well on this date, and his rhythm buddies push the music strongly. This is one of those dates that cries out for reissue on cd, but will Columbia ever do it?

Dan, I agree with you that it's very unlikely that Garcia/Dellucci will be the rightfielders for the Yanks- Steinbrenner will probably throw gobs of money at Vladimir to get him to play in NY. That said, I looked at Garcia's stats for last year with the Yanks and he hit .305 with 6HRs & 21 RBIs in 151ABs. Dellucci did not fare well, but he had a bad ankle and switched leagues, so I would give him a mulligan for 2003. That's not bad production for that position, but Steinbrenner wants an Allstar at each position, so Garcia will be a spot duty guy and Dellucci will get splinters in his butt if he's not traded.

No real boobs- they must look more like flotation devices. -
Yes, Soriano had an awful playoffs/World Series, but he's only 25 and many players don't hit their peak until they are 28 or so- cut the guy some slack already! Get him some solid coaching and get him to lay off that outside pitch, take some walks and he'll be fine.Trading Johnson would also be a mistake, as he is already a good hitter and will get better. Dan Gould was on the money in his assessment of Johnson. We should also keep in mind that Karsay may be healthy for next season, and when healthy he is a very good reliever. If the Yanks keep Gabe White and have Karsay, it's possible that they may have the same quality setup tandem that they used to have with Nelson & Stanton. Right field is not really as bad as one might think- a platoon of Delucci and Garcia could be very productive, and replacing them with Sheffield(35 with a crappy attitude) might be a very expensive mistake. Boone is arbitration eligible, so the Yanks could sign him for one year and see what happens- there aren't really a lot of alternatives out there beyond Mike Lowell. Whatever they do, the Yanks must sign Pettitte.

WKCR sure does play some weird stuff sometimes- a couple of years ago they had a noise festival(I'm not making this up!) featurong recordings of,well, noise. I was in my car and I turned it up pretty loud and I had the windows open, so it sounded like I had car trouble- it was a good laugh to see the looks on people's faces when I stopped at red lights!
