  1. Nice going, Randy! I saw some of the scores you posted, and I AM IMPRESSED! You busted 500 with regularity-if you come over my house, I'm hiding the game and denying all knowledge of ever playing it. Huzzahs(How's that on a triple-word) to you, Randy- you rock the tiles!
  2. HAVE A HAPPY ONE! COME BACK AND VISIT NYC AGAIN SOON!
  3. I did see a report that said that carter tested positive for cocaine- his career went up his nose!
  4. Somewhere there was a thread on this with the tracks listed. Where?...
  5. If the D-backs don't deal Johnson by the trading deadline, they may be in real trouble. They're desperate to reduce payroll, and a $16 million dollar pitcher is rather tough to swallow in that situation with no hope of contention. If they wait until the offseason, there may not be takers, as Dave pointed out. My gut feeling is that somehow the D-backs will suddenly find some Yankee prospects appealing, especially with a $ lubricant.
  6. Number one, let's put this in real word terms: You get in a confrontation in a bar. Dude says, "you want some of this? Let's go!" and you pop him before he pops you. Who exactly started the physical part of the confrontation, really? As far as your claim about Ortiz: Aside from bona fide attacks on umpires (like Carl Everett head-butting the guy), the League takes serious note when serious fisticuffs happen. This was a far more aggressive fight than the ALCS. Mark my words: suspensions will be in excess of five games.
  7. The Big 3 still have to some catching up to do, but I'd much rather have a new Ford or GM vehicle than say, a new VW, talk about lack of reliability! American automakers make some fine products today.
  8. jazzbo, When I see those figures I think of a show I used to watch with my son that was on Nickelodeon called 'Kablam". One of the segments on the show was called 'Action League Now', and featured action figures very much like the ones you pictured here. It was quite a hoot.
  9. Email sent on David Murray-Dark Star & Jackie McLean-Destination Out.$19 total. Let me know how you'd like to get paid. Thanks much.
  10. Yusuf Islam is now his name, and he's now a religious fanatic. Might have not been a nut when he was active musically, but...
  11. Slappin' Stanley would be more like it...
  12. Here's a little bit about Swingin' Stanley in today's NY Post("You want accuracy, go somewhere else!"): NOVELIST HAPPY FOR SLAPPING THE most delicious dialogue on Sunday night's "Topic A with Tina Brown" came just as the end credits were rolling. "Stanley," Brown said to novelist and cultural critic Stanley Crouch at the close of her CNBC chatfest, "you have something to confess this week. What did you do, you naughty man?" "I slapped Dale Peck," Crouch replied matter-of-factly. "You bitch-slapped Dale Peck?" Brown squealed. "That is true," Crouch replied. "He deserved it." "I was asked a question," Crouch later told PAGE SIX's Lisa Marsh. "I had no idea the sound was going out." The bad blood that caused Crouch to slap Peck across the face at Tartine in the West Village last week stemmed from Peck's withering review of Crouch's novel, "Don't the Moon Look Lonesome," in the New Republic way back in 2000. Peck wrote: "Let's be blunt. 'Don't the Moon Look Lonesome' is a terrible novel, badly conceived, badly executed and put forward in bad faith; reviewing it is like shooting fish in a barrel." Crouch said yesterday, "I've been known to write a negative review or two in my time." However, "the only hatchet job I've ever gotten was from him" — refraining from mentioning Peck by name. Still-seething Crouch claimed Peck "is a widely hated person in the realm of literature. He publishes reviews full of lies . . . his sole purpose is to elevate himself." For good measure, Crouch said Peck deserves "a gob of spit in his face — he's deserving of that. "All I can say is this — I've become the people's man. I've gotten many telephone calls. I've gotten so many commendations and accolades. For the first time I've been in New York, I feel like the people's hero." Howard Mandel, president of the Jazz Journalists Association, and the Village Voice's Harry Allen may not share that sentiment, as they've been on the receiving end of Crouch's swing in the past. "I used to be a boxer," Crouch admitted. "It has happened." Journalists aren't the only ones in danger of getting slapped around by the cantankerous commentator. A PAGE SIX tipster reports that Crouch slapped two waitresses at the Tin Palace 25 years ago over service and tipping. "I don't recall that," he said, adding, "You can't change your past." Peck declined comment.
  13. I've never lived anywhere but Brooklyn, which is itself somewhat urban& suburban depending on where you live. I've worked in Manhattan(NYC to most, but don't forget the other four boroughs) for over 20 yeaqrs, so I get the full NYC picture. I LOVE IT!!! I can't imagine living anywhere else. Sure, we have 8 million people squashed into a small space, but it's constantly alive and buzzin'. Where I live it's pretty quiet, so I have that peace that we all need.
  14. Good Luck! I regularly play against my computer(and regularly get my behind kicked!). It's a great game, but hard for some to understand the attraction. i have a friend that I visit, and when I go to his house we play 7 or 8 games of Scrabble, and folks whe hear of it think we're strange. Have you read 'Word Freak' by Stefon Fatsis? It's an insider's look at Scrabble tournaments and some of the players. BINGO on a triple-word score, and may you get the q,z,x,j!
  15. if you're up for a new disc, I'd highly recommend the new David Murray disc, 'Gwotet' with Pharoah Saunders. I started on this disc yesterday, and I've listened to it about 4x, and IT STILL SMOKES!!!! It's an afropop/jazz marriage that actually works.
  16. Debbie Marshall(Cute girl from the seventh grade) Wasn't there a Mike Marshall who was a rubber-armed reliever for the Dodgers? I think he studied kinesiology and set a record for appearances in a season. 17. If you haven't already, check out GiGi- she's from Ethiopia and does some nice stuff, and she also aqppears on the Tabla Beat Science live disc.
  18. If you want it juicy and you have some time, place the chicken pieces in salted water for about three hours or so, then pat dry very lightly. Then put the chicken in buttermilk, followed by the flour. I've found that if you add some cayenne pepper to the flour along with salt and pepper the chicken has some serious zing to it.
  19. I went to derektrucks.com, and that leads you directly to the Sony website. So I went there, ordered, got my package-and I got 'Soul Serenade'?! My first thought was that these dopes at Sony, etc. I checked my order, and lo and behold, I clicked on the wrong thing! So I went back and ordered the live discs. 'Soul Serenade' is very good, and D. Trucks has a great sense of adventure- he seems willing to try different things musically.
