  1. Tower in Mountain View, CA has a hundred or more Japanese CDs of Blue Note, Savoy, Verve and other on the shelves below the used Jazz CD racks. $7 - $12. I picked up Newk at the VV (double) for $14.99. Left the rest for y'all.
  2. 15% through 20 April http://www.bordersstores.com/features/feat...=coupon_survey1
  3. Where to begin... I suppose if one can avoid the NEED to have (selected) Mosaics, one should. For the rest of us...
  4. Sugar Chile! (Robinson). I was so awed with this musical talent, I picked up the Classics CD. I'm joking on the 'talent' part, but I did pick up the Classics. (Classics? This is Classic?)
  5. Over the course of three purchases, I managed to assemble a complete Gerald Wilson. And within a weeks' time, I saw, but failed to buy a complete Andrew Hill; lesson learned.
  6. Just perused the list of 'benefactors' over at All About Jazz. And there they were: Organissimo. I know the boards aren't rivals, but it is nice to see support for the music, across the divides.
  7. I was present for several portions of these recordings (based on ticket stubs and best-recollections - I was a Keystone regular back then). Someday, I'll probably pick up this set, perhaps if/when there's another Mosaic sale/promo. I recall liking the band at the time, and I've continued to enjoy Cables in other settings (e.g., Art Pepper). Yet, somehow, I managed to 'pass' on the earlier issue.
  8. Ohhellyeah! Money a-comin' my way. Okay, it's US$47. But that'll get me...uhm...a bus pass? A Senior bus pass?
  9. Wardell Gray cut a few of these sides (with Little Willie Littlefield, Ivory Joe Hunter and I forget who-all else.) Frankly, they're disappointing - as much as I love WG. And not surprisingly. Wardell's tone and approach were just too light for this setting. Love those old Saxophonograph LPs. Wish I had one with me. And a turntable. and a phono preamp. Red Prysock, Griff, Cleanhead (alto), Big Jay, Jug, Gator, T, Arnett, Harold Vick...even Sonny Stitt. And who was the cat who cut a couple of albums for Blue Note? (Drawing a blank. )
  10. Only one beer I drink: my own. (Been brewing since 1978.)
  11. Not certain yet, but you can be sure I'll be Keepin' it greazy!!!
  12. Jazz: Wardell Gray "Way Out Wardell" on Crown Records Un-Jazz: Led Zeppelin "Presence" Tip of the hat to Aebersold All Bird and Miles Davis...
  13. Truly one of my favorite players. And one of my favorite people. A beautiful cat all around. Someday, I'll tell the story of Moody's birthday, oh so many years ago. I still laugh. I still cry. But the bottom line on it was, Moody's one h*ll of a guy.
  14. http://f.chtah.com/i/9/276579820/NewSubscr...Coupon_Reg.html - 10% off total purchase. http://www.bordersstores.com/features/feat...e=coupon_survey - 15% on one item.
  15. The Good News: 30% Off. The Other News: Selected locations only. http://f.chtah.com/i/9/276579820/Borders20...n30percent.html Valid only in selected stores in Baltimore, Cincinnati, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Sacramento, Stockton, Modesto, and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 3/25/05 – 3/27/05
  16. I travel quite a bit - 115 countries or so in the past dozen years. I always try to learn ten 'key' words or phrases from each language I encounter. I can only echo the sentiments of others: Finnish is among the toughest. Heck, even Russian - with the Cyrillic alphabet - is a relative cinch.
  17. 11 members reading this thread. Interesting that this should attract such a crowd.
  18. Princeton, NJ. Check it out. Seriously, don't know what your criteria are, but Princeton is okay: location, local attitude, etc.
  19. Where to listen/eat/amuse one's self/shop. I'll be there for about a month (late-April - mid-May). Haven't been in a few years.
  20. Agreed. My decision to place this in Artists rather than Recommendations was deliberate.
  21. Oh yes, any thoughts on this recording, Mr. Gould? (I'm not sure we've 'met', but yours is a familiar name. Three Sounds/Gene Harris, is it? Or have I confused you with...??? So much for the memory.)
  22. .....uhm, forgot what I was going to say.
  23. Anyone besides Dan Gould have this recording? I bought it mainly as a curiousity. Recorded late in the career of each featured performer in a relatively informal setting (clearly, the audio engineer was not RVG), it's a pretty loose set. And, just when I think something's going to suffer a total breakdown or the proceedings are going to lapse into the entirely banal, one of the performers plays something that seems to bring things back together. By no means a great recording, but it did meet my objective: it's a curiousity.
  24. I'm presently on the (in)continent of Florida.
  25. Not exactly an answer to your question, but Jazz Record Center in NYC has heaps of these and, one would assume, a good source. http://www.jazzrecordcenter.com
