  1. Any thoughts on the Modern Jazz Quartet set? Own very little of there stuff.
  2. Listening to discs 1 and 2. Yeah, I agree. Ridiculous good!
  3. Smalls October schedule: https://www.smallslive.com/events/calendar/2017/10/
  4. The dj played a track off that album. I purchased that album many moons ago I believe on your recommendation, Chuck. I think it might have been one of Shelly's last sessions.
  5. I just finished listening to an excellent program on KSDS hosted by Ken Poston which featured a good number of releases/selections from the Japanese Atlas label. It was really great to hear some music I wasn't fully aware of. A lot of guys from the early days of the West Coast scene were featured heavily. I already own a few of these releases, most notably the Art Pepper Hollywood All Star Sessions. I talked to Ken over the phone and he said a lot of this stuff is hard to find or is OOP, so it was a real treat to here some of this rare music. A real education. I'm not certain if there was a dedicated thread to this label previously, so excuse me if I'm bringing up past discussions. I'm just curious what you guys think. Do you own and of these releases. Thoughts positive or negative would be appreciated. Thanks.
  6. Features Phil Woods on alto sax.
  7. I am really bummed to hear this. I love this band. Music that was always well done. In lieu of jazz profiles on wkcr in New York they are instead playing a tribute to Walter Becker till 7 p.m. tonight.
  8. I've been listening to the live stream on News Radio 740(KTRH) out of Houston. They've been taking phone calls and giving live weather updates. Boy, I feel for the folks down that way. Sadly, it doesn't look to end soon. https://www.iheart.com/live/ktrh-newsradio-740-2285/ Some of the crazy things I'm hearing is that some people are out driving in this shit.
  9. Disc 6 which features Johnny Hartman. Never been much a fan of jazz vocals, but Johnny is always an exception.
  10. Discs 2, 4 and 5. The Clifford Jordan sessions are nice.
  11. Thanks for the tips fellas. I may grab the needle nose plyers myself since I experienced the same difficulties. I haven't even listened to disc 2 of the Beehive set because of the fear of snapping the disc. That's crazy.
  12. A buddy of mine attended the show last night in Kingston and he said it was fantastic!
  13. Scott, while the Herman Select is no longer available directly from Mosaic, I did see a couple on Ebay last night. One for $69.99 and another for $79.95. Depends how badly you want it I suppose. I have this set and and it's very good.
  14. Tom, I can't speak to the supporting cast. That may be best left for others. That said, Opus 40 is a great venue for enjoying music. If you get bored you can always walk the site. It's truly an incredible place.
