  1. In Pennsylvania not only do we elect our DAs but we elect our judges as well. Now that's fucked up.
  2. I don't think Barry Manilow ever wrote anything as heavy as "Helter Skelter". If you wanted to campare Lennon and Macca's post Beatles careers I think you can find A LOT of crap that was put out by both. "Somewhere in NYC"?? Swill. "Double Fantasy"?? Bleech. I think Lennon comes off a little better not because he put out better stuff but because he had the good sense to take 5 years off when the well dried up. You can't pin the blame for the Beatles break up on one person. I think the immense pressure of being a Beatle 24/7 took its toll on all of them. There's just no way they could have continued. They were young men who grew up under intense public scrutiny that grew tired of Beatlemania and wanted to move on. Look what that fame did to so many of their contemporaries. Brian Jones, Hendrix, Janis, Morrison... all dead before they turned 28. Can you blame them for wanting some semblance of a "normal" life?? Even Dylan had to take a sabbatical. It's amazing that they stayed together for as long as they did. edit spelling.

  8. Eh, shit happens. Here's a rare feel good story about Philly fans and an ex-Philadelphia sports hero.... Thome gets appreciative rise out of Phillies fans By MARCUS HAYES hayesm@phillynews.com White Sox' Jim Thome tips his helmet during ovation before his first at-bat in Philly since 2005. DAN BAKER, the public address announcer at Citizens Bank Park, added the relish and flourish normally reserved for the home team when he unfurled Jim Thome's name in the first inning of yesterday's game, the first time Thome's name was announced during a Phillies game since 2005. The crowd of 42,677 reacted predictably: It rose and cheered. Thome stepped out of the batter's box and enthusiastically doffed his batting helmet. "I tip my hat to the people of Philadelphia," said excitable White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen. "That's a class act." That's what Thome was in Philadelphia. He revived interest in the Phillies when he signed as a free agent for the 2003 season. A season later, the club set records with more than 24,000 season tickets and more than 3.2 million in total attendance at new Citizens Bank Park. For his part, Thome hit 96 homers with the Phillies before he was traded to the White Sox to make room for ascending first baseman Ryan Howard. He left part of his heart in Philadelphia. These days Thome is a designated hitter. He started at first base for the first time since the White Sox played the Cubs last July. He did not even get an at-bat in the first two games of the series, so he and the crowd were primed for a lovefest. "They showed me the love when I was here," Thome said. "When I tipped my cap, I showed them the love back."

Garcia is routed by Royals http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/200706..._to_Royals.html And though he had lost some velocity on his fastball last season, the Phillies were confident enough in his ability that they traded righthander Gavin Floyd and lefthander Gio Gonzalez to the Sox in December for him. The Phillies spoke with White Sox personnel about Garcia and reviewed his health records but did not order an MRI or physical exam before the deal. The Phillies said they felt confident in Garcia's health. -------------- 14.

  16. One of the bands I was in during college used to cover "You're Gonna Miss Me". Great song and a amazing vocal performance by Roky. BTW, what is the correct way of saying his first name?? Is it "Rocky" or "Row-key". I've always thought it was "Rocky" but have heard both.
  17. Yes, you're starting to make me feel really lucky! I feel really, really lucky, then. I got mine in a cut-out bin at the music store across the street from where I work! I guess I'm sorta of lucky as I bought both Patterns and Medina when the first cd issues of them came out. Total Eclipse was the icing on the cake-found used for 10 smackers. Yeah, I made a point of grabbing all of the Hutcherson's 60's stuff back when it was in print. I had no idea his OOP cds were commanding such prices on ebay. Total Eclipse has the weirdest sound. It's like they added fake reverb afterwards, which explains why I don't listen to it that much. Good session though.
  18. Break out the Hoover..... Phils sweep the Mets at Shea! NEW YORK (AP) -- Chase Utley, Pat Burrell, Jimmy Rollins and the Philadelphia Phillies swept their way back into the NL East race. Utley delivered the go-ahead hit in extra innings for the second time in three days after Burrell tied it in the ninth with a solo homer off Billy Wagner, and Philadelphia beat the New York Mets 6-3 in 10 innings Thursday night to complete a three-game sweep.
