Damn. Now you've got me freaked out about ZAP. My subscription just expired yesterday and now I'm wondering if I should dump it and just use my Linksys router and AVG.

Pink Floyd Members Appear At Barrett Tribute Lars Brandle, London The surviving members of Pink Floyd took part in a tribute concert last night (May 10) to pay respects to their former frontman, Roger "Syd" Barrett. Guitarist David Gilmour, bassist Roger Waters, drummer Nick Mason and keyboardist Rick Wright all appeared on stage at the "Syd Barrett -- Madcap's Last Laugh" gig, held at the London Barbican venue. But it would appear the long-feuding Gilmour and Waters have yet to bury the hatchet. The pair appeared separately, the BBC reports, and were not photographed together. Gilmour, Mason and Wright performed "Arnold Layne," the group's first hit and one of Barrett's best-known works. Waters performed a solo version of his own track, "Flickering Flame." The concert was held to pay homage to Barrett, who died on July 7, 2006, at the age of 60, following complications from diabetes. The artist had spent the better part of the past 30 years living in seclusion in Cambridge, England, after being forced out of the band due to deteriorating mental health issues. Other performers on the night included Blur and Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn, the Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde and Soft Boys singer Robyn Hitchcock. They then took part in an all-star finale of one of Barrett's best-known compositions, the psychedelic track "Bike" taken from the band's debut 1967 album, "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn." Waters, however, did not join in. The Barrett concert is part of the Barbican's Only Connect series of events, which offers a podium for unusual collaborations and cross-arts experimentation. Contemporary composer Philip Glass and punk-era artist Patti Smith will take part in a performance of piano and poetry on Oct. 19, under the Only Connect banner Photos here: http://www.radiosonic.it/public/news/pivot/entry.php?id=534

Ricky Williams Just Loves His Weed
Chalupa replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
IIRC, the NBA does not test for weed. EDIT: well apparently they started testing in 2000. Still the penalty is pretty soft compared to the NFL.... If a player tests positive for marijuana for the first time during Reasonable Cause Testing, First-Year Testing, or Veteran Testing, or he is convicted of, or pleads guilty, nolo contendre or no contest to, the use or possession of marijuana in violation of the law, he will be required to enter the program. A second such violation will result in a $15,000 fine and the player's re-entry into the program. A third (or any subsequent) such violation will result in a five-game suspension and the player's re-entry into the program. http://news.findlaw.com/legalnews/sports/d.../index.html#NBA -

I totally disagree. I think the game is still in denial about the steroid era. I'm hoping that he shatters Aaron's record and exposes Selig & MLB for being the hypocrits that they are. Maybe after "baseball's most cherished record" falls they will see what a mockery they are turning the game into and actually do something about steroid use. They conviently turned a blind eye to all the steroid usage for the past 15 years while MLB's owners got richer and richer. Now just w/in the past two years as Bonds has been closing in are they doing something about it. The current policy is still bullshit, imho.

Police: Hancock legally drunk Marijuana found in pitcher's sport utility vehicle Posted: Friday May 4, 2007 11:36AM; Updated: Friday May 4, 2007 2:58PM Josh Hancock was dead "within seconds" from head injuries suffered in a car crash early Sunday morning. AP ST. LOUIS (AP) -- St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Josh Hancock was drunk and talking on his cell phone at the time of his fatal accident, and marijuana was found in the sport utility vehicle he was driving. Medical examiner Michael Graham said at a news conference Friday that the 29-year-old reliever was dead "within seconds" from head injuries in the crash early Sunday on Interstate 64 in St. Louis. His vehicle hit the back of a tow truck parked on the highway to assist a driver from a previous accident. "There is nothing at all that could have been done for him," Graham said. Hancock's blood-alcohol level was 0.157, nearly twice Missouri's legal limit of 0.08, Graham said. Police Chief Joe Mokwa said 8.55 grams of marijuana and a glass pipe used to smoke marijuana were found in the rented Ford Explorer. Toxicology tests to determine if drugs were in his system had not been completed. An accident reconstruction team determined Hancock was traveling 68 mph in a 55 mph zone when his SUV struck the back of a flatbed tow truck stopped in a driving lane. Mokwa said there was no evidence Hancock tried to stop. He did swerve, but too late to avoid the collision. Hancock was not wearing a seat belt, but Graham said the belt would not have prevented his death. Mokwa said Hancock was speaking with a female acquaintance about baseball and baseball tickets and that the conversation ended abruptly, apparently when the accident occurred. A police report said Hancock told the female acquaintance he was on his way to another bar, and that he planned to meet her there. Hancock was driving alone. Cardinals officials expressed sadness at the news and said the team will re-examine what it can do to warn players of the dangers of drinking and driving. "I think it's probably a wake-up call to everybody," general manager Walt Jocketty said at a news conference at Busch Stadium. "The one thing they have to understand is they're not invincible. They have to conduct themselves and make better decisions. Unfortunately, Josh didn't make very good decisions that night." Jocketty and Cardinals manager Tony La Russa both acknowledged the Cardinals continue to provide alcohol to players after games, but said use of alcohol in the clubhouse has diminished over the years. Jocketty said the team will "examine and discuss" its policy. La Russa was arrested on a drunken driving charge in Jupiter, Fla., in March, when police said they found him asleep at the wheel at a traffic light. His blood alcohol level was measured at 0.093 -- Florida's legal limit is 0.08. Hancock, who pitched three innings of relief in last Saturday's 8-1 loss to the Cubs, left Busch Stadium around 6:30 p.m. and arrived about two hours later at Mike Shannon's, a restaurant and bar owned by the former Cardinals third baseman who now is a team broadcaster. Police said Hancock left Shannon's shortly after midnight. Around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, the tow truck came upon a disabled Geo Prism and stopped behind it with its yellow lights flashing to protect the car. A few moments later, Hancock's SUV struck the rear of the tow truck. The tow truck driver was not hurt. "If you drink, don't drive," Mokwa said. "Use a taxi. Have a designated driver. Call a friend." Graham said Hancock had severe chest injuries as well as the fatal head injuries. An estimated 500 mourners turned out Thursday for a memorial service for Hancock in Tupelo, Miss., recalling the pitcher as a goodhearted prankster. Among the mourners were Hancock's teammates, coaches, La Russa and Jocketty. Hancock was buried Wednesday in rural Itawamba County, Miss. Hancock, a key bullpen member on the World Series championship team last season, made his major league debut in September 2002 and played for four major league clubs. He went 3-3 with a 4.09 ERA in 62 regular-season appearances for the Cardinals last season, leading the bullpen in innings, and pitched in three postseason games. He was 0-1 with a 3.55 ERA in eight games this season. Hancock joined the Cardinals in spring training last season after Cincinnati released him for violating a weight clause in his contract. He also pitched for Boston and Philadelphia. The Cardinals postponed a home game the day of the accident against Chicago and haven't won since. They were swept in a three-game series in Milwaukee and had a day off Thursday. Three days before the fatal wreck, Hancock was involved in another accident. The front bumper of his SUV was torn off in a crash with a tractor-trailer that happened at 5:30 a.m. on April 26 in Sauget, Ill., when Hancock moved forward into an intersection to make a left turn. Hancock's death marked the second time in five years the Cardinals have mourned the loss of a teammate. Pitcher Darryl Kile was found dead in his Chicago hotel room in 2002. Kile, 33, died of a coronary artery blockage.

Sorry to hear about your cat. My cat died last year. I had him for 20 years. Like you and Kudra, we had been through a lot of life changing events together. The hardest part was my 2yr. old son asking,"Where did cat go?" everyday for the next 3-4 months and fumbling around for an answer.... Something you might want to consider to honor Kudra's memory is making a donation to the Cornell Feline Health Center. http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/memorials/

I think hearing the original material is a must. try tracking down the 4 cd box set "Best Unsurpassed Masters ( 62-69). On Disc 4 you will find the Smile lp in very good sound all things considered. I have been lucky enough to have seen Brian live 4 times in the last 5 years twice playing the entire Smile album. Unbelievable and The Wondermints ( his backup group) are just fantastic. I just got a copy of this and I'm about half way through it right now. I have to say so far it's excellent. I haven't heard the 2004 recreation but this is pretty amazing....... In glorious STEREO, just like it says on the cover. We decided to do it the way we imagined which necessitated edits, manipulation, speed tempo and pitch correction, etc. Despite killing all the sacred cows it sounds mighty fine to us. seeder's note: There have been many, many other attempts at reconstructing SMiLE. This one is by far the best I've heard. It all flows together beautifully, the arrangements and cuts are probably as good as we're going to get. Also, unlike any other version, it's almost completely in stereo. I think only "On A Holiday" is mostly mono, by necessity. Good Vibrations really packs a punch. Prior out for season after shoulder surgery Associated Press CHICAGO -- Mark Prior is out for the rest of the season. His once promising future with the Chicago Cubs is unclear, although surgery on his right shoulder is not considered career-threatening. Dr. James Andrews operated on the 26-year-old right-hander Tuesday in an arthroscopic procedure in which he also worked on Prior's rotator cuff. "Dr. Andrews feels comfortable that he will still have a career. This is certainly not career-ending," Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said Wednesday. "He felt optimistic that he would be able to pitch next year. ... At his age, he should not have a problem responding and coming back after a strenuous rehab." Prior has been beset by injuries since his first full season in the majors in 2003. He went on the disabled list three times last year and started this season at Triple-A Iowa. "It's best for him. He had some physical problems and now they've been taken care of. I don't think he was going to be able to pitch this way," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said after Wednesday's 9-3 win over the Brewers. "In a way, I'm happy for the guy because he'll get well now and get strong and he can resume his career without the problems that he had. A lot of pitchers have this type of surgery and bounce back and have very productive careers. So let's hope that's the same in Mark's case." The injury was the latest problem for the struggling team. The Cubs, who have not reached the World Series since 1945, made many major changes in the offseason. After beating Milwaukee they were 8-13 and last in the NL Central. Kerry Wood, who teamed with Prior to nearly pitch the Cubs to the NL pennant in 2003, is back on the disabled list with tendinitis in his right shoulder. Wood has not pitched since a spring training appearance March 25, when his arm felt weak and then stiffened up the next day, and Hendry said Wood might resume throwing this week. According to a team statement, Andrews performed a debridement of Prior's rotator cuff and repaired labral and capsular injuries in the shoulder. "It stayed in the arthroscopic stage. But I think he had some touch up work in a lot of places," Hendry said. "But at the same time there didn't seem to be anything so significant that it would require more than the scope. It didn't have to be opened up and have extensive surgery." The Cubs were hoping Prior could rebound this season and compete for their fifth starter's spot that eventually went to Wade Miller. On the day after he was optioned to the minors late in spring training, Prior was convinced he could still get major league hitters out. "You don't know where your crossroads in your career are until probably after your career is done," he said at the time. Prior had hoped to start the season with the Cubs. "There's no reason to ever think that he didn't want to pitch. He was certainly disappointed when he didn't make the ballclub this year and felt like he was good enough to make it," Hendry said. "He wasn't quite his old self, but he felt that he was on the way. There were no complaints in spring training at all about discomfort or sharp pain. He certainly wouldn't have been pitching if he had." Prior is 42-29 with a 3.51 ERA in the majors. He took a slight pay cut this season, from $3.65 million to $3,575,000. Prior finished third in NL Cy Young Award voting in 2003, when he was 18-6 with a 2.43 ERA and struck out 245 in 211 1/3 innings. That October, he was on the mound for Game 6 of the NL Championship Series against Florida with the Cubs leading the series 3-2. Chicago held a three-run lead in the eighth inning before the Marlins, helped by fan interference on a foul ball at Wrigley Field, rallied to win. Florida also won Game 7 and then won the World Series.

There's a good reason why 5/8/77 has never been released as a DP. It's not in the Vault. 5/8/77 is part of a cache of tapes know as the " Betty Boards". "Betty" is Betty Cantor-Jackson who was a member of the Dead's sound crew. She made some wonderful recordings. Anyway, the story that I heard was that she had a bad coke addiction going on and was fired by the band in the mid 80's. Apparently she was in posession of a number of shows that she had recorded. This was back in day before Dick decided organize the Dead's vast concert tapes to create "The Vault". Anyway, she was evicted from her apartment and she put her stuff/tapes into storage. When she stopped paying for storage her belongings were sold at auction. http://www.nii.net/~obie1/deadcd/betty_board_info.htm Also, IIRC... there are two nasty cuts that need to be patched.

I think back in Barry's non-steroid days he was exciting to watch....now he bats a few times a game a few days a week, provides very little excitement on the base paths or in field....not really that exciting (to me). m~ Non-steroids day...? I wasn't aware there was any proof to that effect. Besides, he's 42 years old and with bad knees. Anybody would slow done at that point. For the record, Bonds was MVP seven times before being accused. The rumors/accusations date back to at least to 2001, the season he hit 73 dingers. Check out the photos from his early career and then look at him beginning in '99 http://espn.go.com/mlb/gallery/19379070.html

Hamels fans 15 and the Phils turn MLB's first triple play of the season to raise their record to 5-11. "Just six teams in baseball history have started a season 5-11 or worse and made the postseason: the 1908 Detroit Tigers (5-11), 1914 Boston Braves (3-13), 1951 New York Giants (4-12), 1974 Pittsburgh Pirates (5-11), 2000 San Francisco Giants (5-11), and 2001 Oakland Athletics (5-11)." Sigh.
