  1. From Twitter just moments ago.... Ars Nova Workshop Just locked in June dates with Roscoe Mitchell, Wadada Leo Smith, Henry Threadgill and more!
  2. Fewer things in baseball piss me off more then when your guy walks the pitcher and then the pitcher ends up scoring a run.
  3. Roy Halladay vs. Josh Johnson tonight in Miami. Last time these two guys pitched vs. each other in that stadium Roy pitched a perfect game!
  4. I can't remember 3 players on the same team being thrown out for flagrant fouls in a series before yesterday. I think we're seeing a changing of the guard. The Celtics are just too old. Their window is officially closed.

    Robert Johnson

Happy Birthday to Robert Johnson. He would have turned 100 years old today.
  6. Utley makes first rehab start
  7. Wow! The Lakers are down 3-0 to the Mavs??
  8. I only caught the 2nd set but the band was great as usual. Last night was the 5th time I've seen them play their yearly gig in Philly and they did not disappoint. Which is really saying something because they played TWO gigs earlier in the day and then had a long drive down from New York. Thank you Reptet.
  9. Thank God For Shane Victorino!!
  10. Okay quiz time. Your pitcher has thrown 97 pitches through 6 innings and he's due to bat 2nd in the bottom of the 6th. Oh and your team is trailing 3-0 and getting no hit. Do you keep your pitcher in the game and let him bat or do you hit for him?? Lee has 16 strike outs through 7 innings tonight. If it hadn't been for for Rollins' error(which inexplicably was ruled a hit) he could be pitching a shutout right now.
  11. The Phillies are going to get no hit to night. Lowe is throwing really well and the Phillies hare just having some stupid at bats.
  12. Oh shit! Scott Barry is the ump tonight. I should have known we were doomed with this a-hole calling balls and strikes. From Wiki.... On August 19, 2010, Barry, working home plate in a game between the Atlanta Braves and the Washington Nationals, ejected Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, a 2009 All-Star, Gold Glover, and Silver Slugger winner, for tossing his bat after a strikeout. He followed by ejecting manager Jim Riggleman for defending Zimmerman.[6] Zimmerman later claimed that he was frustrated for striking out, but that "Barry believed the bat and helmet tossing... was directed at the umpire".[7] It was the second consecutive night with a Nationals ejection by Barry, as he had tossed 14-time All-Star catcher Iván Rodríguez on August 18 for disputing a check-swing strike call.[8] Less than a week later, on August 24, Barry ejected Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard, a three-time All-Star and the 2006 National League MVP, in a 16-inning game against the Houston Astros. With two outs in the bottom of the 14th inning, Barry ruled that Howard had swung at two strikes on check-swings with two outs. Howard stared down the third-base line toward Barry after the first call, after which Barry mimicked Howard's gestures;[9] the player tossed his bat toward the dugout after the second, in which "[it] appeared as though Howard was able to check his swing",[10] leading Barry to eject him. Barry also ejected Ross Gload, who was on the disabled list, for arguing from the dugout.[11] The Phillies, out of bench players, brought in starting pitcher Roy Oswalt to play left field after moving regular outfielder Raúl Ibáñez to Howard's position.[11] Asked to comment both after the game and after the August 25 contest, both Barry and Sam Holbrook claimed that Major League Baseball restricted them from making comments; however, the league confirmed that no such rule exists.[12]
  13. Heh...Onion writer should have saved this for when Blanton is back off the DL. Hey J.H., did you happen to notice that the stick a fork in him, he's done, Raul Ibanez has raised his B.A. went from .154, to .214 after going 8 for 12 in the past 3 games, including 2 homers??? Yes I did. I think it's just a blip on over-the-hill radar though. I mean even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile, right?
  14. Phillies Season-Ticket Holder Stuck With Goddamn Joe Blanton Game Again
  15. Coming into tonight's game vs. the Phillies, John Lannan of the Nats was 0 - 8 lifetime in 11 starts vs. the Fightin's. He's now 0 - 9.
  16. Me too. Thanks for doing this JLH.
  17. The Philadelphia Orchestra declared bankruptcy last month

  20. Congrats!!! You are now a level 5 whiney ass baseball fan, the Red Sox level! Last April, Ibanez hit .222 with one homer. .243 Pre all star break, .309 after the break. Few folks of any age in baseball work out as hard as he does. And players have actually been productive at that ancient age. by the by, your fucked team is 18 and 9 and in a tie for first place. Without production from Left field. Without Chase Utley(who is supposedly going to start playing in games very soon)Without your closer. So.Very.Fucked! 2nd best record due only to the fact that we had the easiest schedule in the majors - the Nats, Mets, Pads, Astros, D-Backs are not exactly playoff material. Are any of those teams playing .500 ball?? No. Ibanez is not going to regain the form that he had last season after the all star break unless he hires Greg Anderson. He turns 39 in less than 4 weeks. He's done. Utley is progressing but it's still uncertain when or IF he will be back. Even if he does make it back this season I don't think his body can take being an everyday player anymore. Look, anyone who has watched the Fightin's this season know that they have a lot of question marks surrounding their hitting and bullpen. The Phantastic 4 are masking their problems - for now - but at some point the lack of hitting and miserable bullpen will catch up to them. The schedule is about to get a lot harder in May. So do we have a right to complain? Shit yeah. Am I giving up on my team a la the way a certain Red Sox fan in this folder did back in the first week of the season? Hell no. But as this team is constructed right now we are fucked. We will be lucky to sneak into the playoffs w/ this roster. Rube needs to get a bat or two and pray that Lidge and Contreras make it back if we are going to make any noise in October. So please do not promote me to level 5 just yet BTW, Cole Hamels is just plain NASTY.
  21. Werth returns to the Philly... So would he be seen as an ingrate who followed the dollars out of town, turning his back on the organization that helped make him a star, even though the difference between what the Nats put on the table was so much more than any other team that it hardly qualifies as a decision at all? Or would he be remembered as a member of a team that won the division 4 straight years, went to the World Series twice, brought back the hardware once? Mostly the latter. When he stepped to the plate in the top of the first inning, the boos first obscured the polite clapping. Then, as if realizing what was happening, the rest of the sellout began cheering, many of the fans on their feet, drowning out the backlash. Werth backed out of the box and raised his batting helmet in appreciation. When he reported for duty in rightfield in the bottom of the inning, the fans in those sections greeted him with another standing ovation. He tipped his cap again. Later, he talked at length about how appreciative he was, how touched he was. "I think the fans loved me back for the most part," he said, maybe just a trace of relief in his voice. "I was happy to be back here and play in this stadium. It's an atmosphere like no other place. I think the fans welcomed me back, and I was grateful. I'll definitely remember that for the rest of my career.
