  1. Oh, that makes so much sense: Send Cliff Lee packing, but pick up Oswalt... yeah, right... Don't think that the Philly faithful haven't thought the same thing. Lee was $9 million for this season and Oswalt is still owed $7 million for this season and $16M for 2011 + the 2012 option. Last night was the 80 straight sellout at home. And they didn't have enough ca$h for Lee yet they are thinking of taking on Oswalt's contract??? WTF???? Tonight begins the Domonic Brown era for the Phillies. Victorino is headed to the DL so they are calling him up. Additional bonus - Vic's injury puts the end to the Werth trade rumors too.
  2. The local CSN Sportsrise ran a story on a possible Oswalt to Philly trade this morning. They were interviewing some out of town sportswriter(I didn't catch his name) but basically he said that the Phillies should stay away from Oswalt because of his back. He's already had 3 cortisone shots for a bulging disc that will require surgery at some point. No wonder why he wants that option year at $16 Million guaranteed. See ya.
  3. He had been in ill health for a few years. He didn't make the trip to Philly 3 years ago when his band played here on account of health issues.

  5. "How a-bout that?!"
  6. What's really crazy is that the Rays have been no-hit 2 times this season and now they no-hit the Tigers who had a perfect game until.....

  8. You forgot Mel Allen.
  9. Does anyone really care what kind of milestones A-Rod puts up now that he has copped to using steroids??? I mean, really?
  10. When pitching is the name of the game, you've been to the WS two years in a row and you can have two of the top pitchers in baseball on your team, you...trade one for Manny, Moe & Jack? Huge mistake to me. Agreed. Looks like the Cards are going for Oswalt. Man, that could be the clincher for them. I can't see any team beating Carpenter, Wainwright, and Oswalt in a 7 game series. Oh and then they have that rookie Garcia w/ the 2.24 ERA. Rube the Boob could take a few GM lessons from the Cards GM John Mozeliak.
  11. Last night - Konono no.1 Tonight - Bill Orcutt/Blues Control Friday - D.Charles Speer/Boogie Witch(early show) - Endless Boogie(late) Saturday - Sun Ra Arkestra
  12. Well finally someone in the Philly sports media has realized what the Phillies fans have known ever since the Lee trade was announced.... Lee trade wasn't necessary
  13. Where's this? What would Tampa give up? Can't find the original article but it looks like it may not happen afterall... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5398937 here's part of the original story... http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=5397906
  14. Looks like the Phillies are trying to get Oswalt in a 3 team deal w/ the Astros w/ Jayson Werth going to Tampa. Hey Ruben Amaro maybe you shouldn't have traded Cliff Lee for 3 toilet flushes back in December?? Even if they somehow pull this off there are still some big problems for the Fightin's namely their BP. Not too mention that Werth is right handed slugger in a left handed dominated lineup and his likely replacement is Domonic Brown also a lefty.

  16. Can't believe Cain entered last night's game w/ a 6-8 record. He's pitching way better than that.

  19. A moment of silence and then some--glad NY won their last game before the ASB today on the heels of this news. Jeter, who was a huge Sheppard fan, will use Sheppard's taped voice to announce his All-Star at-bats. Yankees a no-show at Sheppard's funeral
  20. 1970 was a great, great year. Maybe their best. Lots of variety in the set lists every night coupled w/ truly inspired playing. I think why '70 might not get the acclaim it deserves is because so little of it is in the Dead's tape vault. Basically everything after May is missing. There are some amazing shows that can still be heard in audience tapes, however. The Port Chester run from November mentioned in the previous post is amazing! As is the September run from the Fillmore East. The long jam from the 2nd electric set from Port Chester on 6/24, also mentioned by a previous poster, might be my favorite tape from the 70's. From Deadlists.... Dark Star [10:20] > Attics Of My Life [5:34] > Dark Star [7:48] > Sugar Magnolia [1:43] > Dark Star [3:01] > Saint Stephen [6:13] > China Cat Sunflower [3:02] > Jam [2:05] > I Know You Rider [4:17] It's even better than it looks, friends. Much better than the similar jam fromm 10/31/71 that was released as DP2. And I definitely prefer the acoustic sets from 1970 over 1980. Ever listen to the versions of "Dark Hollow" and "I've Been All Around This World" from Bear's Choice? I think they are much better then the later versions. Also love the Bob & Jerry versions of "Silver Threads And Golden Needles" and "Wake Up Little Susie" that populated the acoustic sets. Then you add in Pigpen doing stuff like "Katie Mae" or "The Rub" well I just think 1970 is the stronger year. Of course, YMMV.
  21. "Steppin' Out" has Big Railroad Blues, It Hurts Me Too and Dark Star > Sugar Magnolia > Caution from 4/8/72 Bookmark this - http://www.deadlists.com/default.asp What is this I'm bookmarking?? It's a link to Deadlists - which has every known show w/ a corresponding set list and info on all(well the best in circulation, anyway) available recordings. Essential. I'm not sure why that link doesn't work when I click on your the link in your post but it works for me when I click on the link in my post. Try cut/paste the URL into your browser's window.
  22. Whoa Brian. Remember they broadcast the post All-Star game interviews back in Atlanta. Braves' McCann says Manuel inspired him "It was awesome," McCann said of Manuel's pregame pep talk. "He's the best. He's a great manager. I'm fortunate to play against him all the time. He's a great hitting guy, so I like to talk to him."
