  1. Kind of weird to be saying that the Red Sox are out of it before Memorial Day but some writers are already thinking it maybe too late for the Red Sox this year. I think they still have a shot at the WC. The Red Sox need to win the next two games vs. the Phillies. If they can take 2 of 3 vs. the Rays next week they have a cream puff of a schedule for 2 weeks after that - 4 at home vs. KC, followed by 3 at home vs. Oakland, on the road for 3 @ Baltimore and 4 at Cleveland. MLB needs to redo the Interleague scheduling format. They should follow the NFL model where you have one division play all the teams in another division. The way things are right now the Red Sox are getting screwed. They have 6 games vs. the Phillies and who do the Yanks get for 6?? The Mets. Yanks also have 3 games vs. the team w/ the worst record in MLB - the Astros. Interleague match ups: Red Sox - Phils 6 games, home for 3 vs. Arizona & L.A., 3 on the road vs. Colorado and SF. Yankees - Mets 6 games, home for 3 vs. Astros & Philly, and 3 @ Arizona & 3 @ L.A. So basically they have the same Interleague schedule except the Sox have 9 games vs. the Phillies/Giants and the the Yanks have 9 vs. the Mets/Astros. Phils/Giants combined record 48-34 Mets/Astros combined record 35-50
  2. Kind of weird how Hossa goes from team to team every year. 4 teams in 3 years? Maybe he's not the best guy to have around? Anyway, I think it would be interesting if Hossa was on the losing team in the Cup finals for the 3rd year in a row. Especially if the Flyers are the team that wins
  3. Yeah I can't see San Jose pulling a Philly comeback after that loss. Brutal.
  4. Great Moments in Commencement Speeches
  5. Yeah, they didn't bother to ring the doorbell yesterday. That really pisses me off - the UPS delivery person just assumed that I wouldn't be home so he didn't even bother trying to deliver the package to my house. Spoke with Staples today. They are giving me a complete refund. Someone - either my neighbor or the UPS driver - is getting a free computer.
  6. Shit. I just remembered something... about a year ago my father sent us a package via UPS and it was mis-delivered to the next block. We're 1311 and it was delivered to 1211. I betcha it was the same freakin' driver. Ugh.
  7. So... I was expecting two packages to be delivered by UPS today to my house. The packages are pretty important(new computer from Staples) so I took the day off from work to be home when UPS arrived. I'm waiting and I'm waiting and finally I decide to check the tracking #s. To my utter shock and surprise the packages were marked as "delivered" and signed for by one of my neighbors. I spoke w/ my neighbor and he says that he didn't sign for them and hasn't seen UPS all day. Hmm... Now I've known my neighbor for over 10 years and he's a good guy so I know he's not yanking my chain. Additionally, I have two beagles that are HYPER-sensitive to any noises on our street and if a UPS truck came with in a block of our house I WOULD KNOW. They been quiet all day. So I'm 99.9% sure that not only has there been no delivery but there hasn't been an attempt either. Anyway, I called UPS and got a Kafka-esque run around from them. They wouldn't give me the driver's name or the phone number of the local UPS agency in charge of the delivery. The rep did give me the address of the local UPS center. However, when I pressed her for the number she said she couldn't give me the direct phone # because,"We don't have that information". WHAT. THE. FUCK? (I tried looking up the phone number of the UPS addy she gave me using the yellow pages and got a message that the phone # had been changed to an unpublished #. I actually found 3 different numbers for the local UPS agency and got the same message each time.) Furthermore, if I wanted to file a claim the customer service rep said that I would have to notify Staples so they could process the claim. Again - WTF??? UPS doesn't handle its own claims?? So I called Staples and the Staples customer service agent that I spoke w/ affirmed that I had to file the claim w/ Staples and not UPS. After talking w/ the agent I kind of got the feeling that I'm not the first person that had a problem w/ a Staples delivery via UPS. Long story short Staples has sent UPS an "urgent" email asking the driver to get in contact w/ me about the delivery. That was over an hour ago. I have not been contacted yet. :rmad: :rmad: :rmad: :rmad: :rmad: Anyone else have a similar UPS experience? I've been using UPS for years w/out any problems. I just can't believe how badly their customer service has deteriorated.
  8. Damn. The baseball gods took out their revenge on Doc Halladay after my earlier post today. I can't believe he lost. To the Pirates. The Pirates.
  9. Flyers and Leighton just posted their 2nd consecutive shutout of the Habs.
  10. What an ass. Trade him to the Royals.
  11. So sad. I was fortunate to see him play many times here in Philly. He was a regular attender at many shows. I never saw him not wearing a suit and tie. Old school. http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=16250
  12. I pity the Pirates right now. They got slammed 12-2 tonight and what's their reward for tonight's misery??? Doc Halladay tomorrow.
  13. I can't believe the Yankees blew a 5 run lead and then scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th to win it.

  15. You're probably right but, it sure was fun watching the Flyers beat the Bruins and the Habs this weekend.
  16. 85?? That's generous. I would say more like 80.
  17. Orlando might play the worst team defense I've ever seen from a team that made it to the conference finals. Yesterday the Celtics had uncontested layup after layup. I thought I was watching a warm up drill. I blame the Magic's inability to stop all of those backdoor layups on the coach. This is going to be a short series if the Magic can't defend their own basket.

  19. Historic. The only other teams to win a series after trailing 3-0 were the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs, who beat Detroit, and the 1975 New York Islanders, who eliminated Pittsburgh. The other 159 teams that won the first three games in a series all won them. Hi.
  20. And the did it on the road. Dave - has there ever been a conference final w/ a #7 seed vs. #8???
  21. THE FLYERS WIN!! THE FLYERS WIN!!!!!! WAHOO!!!
  22. Angry A-Rod Man Pitches Perfect Game
  23. Amazing artist. A friend of mine went to his museum and met Frazetta and his wife a few years ago. He said they were very nice and generous with their time.
  24. If it's the 8th or 9th inning and you're getting beaten badly (whatever our definition of that may be...let's say 5 runs or more going into the 8th), yeah, I think bunting at that point looks more like an out-and-out attempt to simply break up the no-hitter. Down by 4 with the other pitcher not even halfway through the game? At that point it's still very competitive and you're simply trying to get on base and hopefully score, keeping your team competitive. EDIT: Yahoo sports columnist checks in with a yahoo-worthy analysis. I like his analysis but, I don't agree with his conclusion. I have trouble with this,"I think bunting at that point looks more like an out-and-out attempt to simply break up the no-hitter." What's wrong with trying to break up a no-no?? Look nobody wants to go down as being on the team that had a no-hitter/perfect game thrown against them so whatever you have to do to escape that fate you do it. YMMV. I like some of the responses in the comments... (all grammatical/spelling errors have been preserved) A batters job is to get on base any way he can. If the pitcher is trowing great that day, maybe a bunt is the only way to get on. The media and the fans may not like it but the players understand. They may [profane] about it if the bunt is the only hit, but they would and should do the same thing. what is this crap. so a batter cannot challenge the pitcher's or infielders' fielding abilities or suddenly he can only operate the bat consistent with his previous at-bats simply because of the timing or the team's hit count? Another thing, what about the players who's hits are significantly made up of infield hits or bunt singles? What's the difference? If Juan Pierre comes up and breaks up a no no with a bunt single why is that wrong? Next thing you know there will be an unwritten rule for having a green light on a 3-0 count during a no no... What Longoria did was fine even if his team was down by 10 runs and it was ninth inning. If you can't handle a bunt attempt then you aren't perfect. The other team doesn't want to be on the other end of a no-no or perfect game and you should expect them to do whatever they can to avoid it. If the other team is expected to cooperate it wouldn't be much of an accomplishement. I don't have a problem with bunting to break up a no-hitter at any time. Teams can score runs in the 9th inning just as easily as they can in the 1st inning. To just roll over and allow a team to get a no-hitter or a perfect game is poor sportsmanship in my book. That pitcher needs to earn it and if Longoria wants to bunt to get on base, then let him. I know i wouldn't stand idly by and root for the other pitcher to finish his perfect game bid.
