In case you missed the ump's missed calls last night... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs/200...&id=4581598
-
The only thing worse than the umps tonight is having to listen to Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. I don't know which one I hate listening to more.
-
Aww PhillyQ beat me to it. They gotta pull Kazmir. He just can't get that breaking ball any where near the plate. How many times has it bounced up in front of the plate?
-
Man I just saw two of the worst blown calls ever in the top of the 4th in the Yankees/Angels game. First was a pick off attempt at 2nd and the Angels had the runner by a good 6 inches and the ump called the runner safe. It was just awful. The 2nd call was when the ump ruled that Swisher had left 3rd early when tagging up when replays showed that his foot was on the bag when Hunter made the catch. All I can figure is that the third base ump was making up for the 2nd base ump's initial error. Instant replay needs to be expanded. NOW.

I stand corrected. Last night's game was only the 3rd time that an extra base hit won the game w/ two outs away from losing*. So yeah the Mets/Sox WS 86 game was another. My bad. Edit. Man, I really got this quote wrong. So the Mets/Sox actually is not one of them because the game was tied and Mookie Wilson's grounder was ruled, correctly, an error not a base hit. That game 6 was an more exciting come back than last night - even for this Phils fan. * Angels beat the Yanks last night w/ a double and two outs BUT that game was tied.

Nope. One was The Kirk Gibson Game -- Game 1 of the 1988 World Series, Gibson homering off Dennis Eckersley, Jack Buck warbling: "I don't believe what I just saw." The other was The Bill Bevens Game -- Game 4 of the 1947 World Series, when Yankees pitcher Bill Bevens got within one out of the first no-hitter in World Series history, and then lost it all. Lost his win. Lost his place in immortality. Lost it on a two-run double by Cookie Lavagetto with two outs in the ninth.

Wow. Denver looks like it got the better end of the Orton/Cutler trade. Happy for BDawk and CBuck.

Man, that was a crazy win last night. After a season of being on the WRONG end of those blown saves (17 times) it's good to get the win. And Bradley Thomas Lidge got his first win in 2009 to boot! You think Broxton was still thinking about last year's NLCS when he walked Stairs on 4 pitches? According to Jason Stark last night's game was only the 3rd time in 1,251 postseason games in MLB history that a team came back to win when they were only one out from losing.

Maybe the NFL needs a "Mercy" or "Skunk" rule? Nah. When your hometown baseball team is putting up more points on the board then you football team, something ain't right.

6-year-old Colorado boy floats away in balloon

The parents will get a slap on the wrist and will have to pay back the money for the cost of the rescue. How long before they sign a deal for the film/book rights? -
I take back my comment about about the NLCS coming down to the team w/ the least shittiest BP. It comes down to the team w/ the least stupidest manager. Why did Torre have Billingsley pitch to Ruiz(who has been torching the Dodgers so far) w/ a man on third, two outs, first base open, and the pitcher due up next??? That's just bad managing.

There was a good story on the Delfonics in Wax Poetics a few issues back.

And again... for the third time... IT'S A GIRL!!!

Conversation between Jim and Scarlett 15 years from now.... Jim: "Sweetie, here's a newspaper that your mom and I have been saving for you since the day you were born." Scarlett: "Wow. Cool! Thanks Dad. Umm... Dad, I have a question for you." Jim: "Yes?" Scarlett: "What's a newspaper?" -
Dodgers didn't win that game as much as the Phillies pissed it away. This loss is on Chollie. Taking out Pedro after he just struck Manny to end the 7th??? 87 pitches, 2 hits, 0 walks, 3 strike outs, a 0.00 ERA and you take him out???

That's amazing news Jim!! Congrats to Mom, Pop, and her big sisters. -
I don't know what the weather is in NYC right now but if it's anything like it is right now 90 miles to the south in Philly there's no way there will be a game tonight. The weather here is just as bad as when Game 5 of the WS got postponed for 2 days last year. 40 degrees(in the 30's by first pitch), wind, and rain. And it's pretty much supposed to stay like that through Monday here.
-
Phew.
-
And just like the series w/ the Rockies the NLCS winner will be the team with the least shittiest bullpen. WTF???

How much longer is Felix under contract ??? I don't think Seattle has the resources to keep him there longer than that. Baseball really needs a salary cap.

This certainly doesn't look good... By the way, what do you mean by "carpe diem those titles..."? The Latin phrase "carpe diem" literally means "seize the day". I meant that you should stop putzing around and scarf up those titles before they're all gone. Who knows when, or if, they'll be back in print.

I just got a Art After 5 thing in the mail on Saturday. It had a list of all the shows through Christmas. Wayne was not listed. Looks like it will be in the Winter/Spring.

I just got this news in an email. Not good. Really too bad since they have been doing an great job in getting the MPS catalog back in print. Carpe diem those titles while you can... ---------------------------------------------------- Dear NAME, Our worldwide distributor (responsible to get our CDs in the stores) is insolvent. Because of this we lost so much money that today we are unable to manufacture any new releases. We have an idea, though. What if our supporters (yes, we mean you!) would give us a funding in order to keep the promising music of the MPS catalogue alive? Just imagine we find, say, 50 people lending us, say, 600 US-Dollars respectively 400 Euros for, say, a period of nine months. Then, together with the money we are able to raise on our own at present, pre-financing of three more CDs is made possible! If you think this being considerable we want you to mail us and inform us about the amount you are willing and able to contribute. Of course: THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NON-BINDING! We would appreciate to have your mail with us by October 24th, 2009. Then we will get back to you in the first week of November 2009 to inform you whether this works or not and will come up with more details. So even if you are thrilled to support us: PLEASE, DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY BEFORE WE CAN SAY “GO!” We know this is a matter of trust. In case you participate we can offer: Besides our word that you will get your money back from us in time, it is obligatory that you will get one copy of each of the three new releases for free on top. Also, if you wish, we can allocate it with other promising music CDs already available. Which we would send to you even before you paid your funding portion. As a matter of trust in return. We’re looking forward to all the positive answers Bodo Jacoby and your promising music team

How is that one? I've passed on it a number of times. Not sure as to why.
