  1. Whoa. Just got home. 8-4?? WTF?
  2. Just stuck my head out the door and the rain is coming down pretty good right now. I live about 10-15 minutes from the Bank. If this keeps up they will have to postpone. I don't think they want another debacle like last years Game 5. Shit, now I have to find alternate non-biking means of transportation to the shows.
  3. Definitely. http://www.accuweather.com/us/pa/philadelp...partner=kyw1060 I'm headed out the door to see Sun Ra and then the Dead Milkmen. Tough choice but music wins.
  4. I was impressed by what I heard played by Alfie Pollitt last week at the Rashied Ali Memorial gig. Anyway I found this little page w/ some other guys who I've seen/heard over the years in Philly in pickup bands backing whatever big name that was passing through town. Lee Smith, who I saw backing up Bud Shank a few years ago, is awesome. Umar Raheem was igreat last week at the Ali gig too. http://phillythroughmyear.com/about.htm
  5. Giraldi picks CC for Game 4. 3 man rotation??? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs/200...tory?id=4611766
  6. Yeah. In this case, it's much like when one of those French New Wave directors used a non-actor for a supporting role in a film. The movie still works, but it would probably have been a bit better with an actor. Strongly disagree w/ the French New Wave analogy. They actually did replace her temporarily only to have disastrous results. Have you ever heard the VU album,"Live at Max's Kansas City"?? Mo was replaced for the weekend run of shows(she was in labor w/ her first child) by Billy Yule. Now Billy was a pretty straight ahead, balls to the wall rock drummer and he just ruins that album. Every song. He's a very flashy drummer and overplays everything. No subtly whatsoever. Yes, she was an amateur but the VU wouldn't have been the same w/out her as evidenced on Max's. Except for Cale, the rest of the members in the VU were amateur musicians too. What saved them were Reed's songwriting ability and their sonic experiments of which her drumming played a significant part. She also had that one dance groove that she used over and over again in songs like,"What Goes On," "I Can't Stand It," "Rock & Roll," et al., that was very influential upon Klaus Dinger's "motorik" sound. So if you're going to judge her solely on her technical ability you're missing the point. I think a better analogy would be that her drumming played the same role in the VU's overall sound as Ringo's did in the Beatles. Like Ringo there are better drummers(Hell Ringo wasn't even the best drummer in the Beatles - that was Paul) but despite their technical limitations they both were able to coax a sound from their drums that was very complimentary to their respective band's overall sound. Haters. Oh, fer godsake..... When I say they could have used, from the beginning, someone who could keep time little better, I certainly do NOT mean they should have used someone who was "flashy and overplays everything." Not in a million years. In fact, I wouldn't recommend that to any rock'n'roll band, particularly a garage/proto-punk/Nuggets-type band like the Velvet Underground. Now clearly, Reed and Cale worked her limitations into the framework of the group's sound and everything worked out fine. Sit back and take a chill pill. Sorry about that. Guess I "overplayed" the crappy drummer comparasion card.
  7. Ron Tutt must have some tales to tell. He backed up Elvis for 9 years and Jerry for another 3.

  9. He said in an interview before the WS that he could pitch on 3 days, if needed. Lee: "I'm capable of pitching on 3 days rest." I think you have to start him 3 times. The Phils starting pitching is lousy after Lee & Pedro.
  10. Oh well it was a fun World Series before Chollie got a severe case of brain lock. Congrats to the Yankees on their 27th championship. Blanton named Game 4 starter over Lee The right-hander is 0-3 with an 8.18 ERA in four career starts against the Yankees. He has allowed 22 hits, including five homers, and 12 walks in 22 innings. Eric Hinske, 4 for 18 (.222) with two doubles and two homers against Blanton, could play right field for New York in Game 4 over slumping Nick Swisher (1 for 3 against Blanton). Mark Teixeira is 9 for 27 with three homers off Blanton, and Alex Rodriguez is 4 for 7 with two homers.
  11. Nice porn pictures there! I had buyer's remorse for about 10 seconds. Then when I slid the white box open...and here I thought I was immune to miniature faithful reproduction. (I imagine the designers are also model railroaders.) And yeah, as said the sound (most important part) is so fuggin' great. I do play these a bit louder than most of my CDs. Play it loud since it's not a "loudness war" victim! Thanks for posting those photos. I'm almost ready to take the plunge. Must.... resist....
  12. He's a FA as soon as the season ends so there's still a chance. He loves NYC.
  13. Oh and did you guys think Ibanez's double in the 2nd was fair?? I thought it was foul but I guess it must have left a mark on the line. Who is the Yankees 4th starter??
  14. Saturday night(Halloween) I'm going to to 2 shows. Early show is the Sun Ra Arkestra and later is the Dead Milkmen.
  15. Already got my ticket!
  16. I think you guys definitely have the edge in the game 3 match up. Pettitte is money in the big games. Hamels has been small and weakish this entire season and I fully expect more of the same from him on Saturday.
  17. Only to have the same ump blow another call by calling Utley out at first when the replays clearly showed he was safe. Another make up call. My questions are: (1) Why did Chollie let Pedro pitch in the 7th when his pitch count was at 99 to start the inning? Especially after Matsui smacked that pop fly that went out the band box? 320ft. is not a home run. (2) Jethro McCarver was right when he asked why didn't Chollie send the runners on the 3-2 to Utley. Why not? This game is almost a complete reversal of last night. Although I think Lee pitched way better and Burnett(and Pedro) got the benefit of a w-i-d-e strike zone tonight.
  18. Dude. Same thing here w/ my son and I. He just went back to school today.
  19. Sorry to hear about your loss TTK. One of the saddest days of my life was when my cat(Roadkill) of 20 years died 3.5 years ago. I still have his ashes on my bureau.
  20. Thanks to of the photographers for taking(and sharing!) all of these amazing photos. I really enjoy looking through your eyes.
  21. No doubt, a healthy Spurs team will definitely pose the biggest threat to the Lakers out West. The Jazz, Nuggets, and Blazers will be feisty but aren't scary like the Spurs. Out East, the Celtics and Magic are better than the Cavs as far as I'm concerned. Shaq wasn't intimidating on the Suns and isn't intimidating on the Cavs. He's fat, old, and slow. It's going to be a failed experiment and ultimately will contribute to LeBron James departing Cleveland. Of course, all of this is barring injuries on any team. Magic looked scary good last night. Granted they were playing the Sixers at home but that game was over midway through the 2nd period. SS1, you want to add "NCAA" to the thread title or should we start a separate topic?
  22. Yes, Hughes is definitely a problem reliever to bring in right now, nowhere near as effective as he was in the regular season. Truth be told, nobody in the NY bullpen outside of Mo makes me feel really confident right now. Robertson's been good, you're right, though he gave up a damaging hit last night. Whatever happens, I really, REALLY want to beat Cliff Lee. In Philly. All of the basket-catch, Posada-ass-tag stories today are starting to irk me. Jeter solved him...he's not invincible. If the bullpen had kept the game at 2-0, we would've had a very different vibe in the bottom of the 9th. When it comes to the overall shape of the series, NY's middle relief worries me more than another Cliff Lee start. Don't forget Lee's behind the back catch of Cano's grounder. That was amazing. [Phillies hat off] Dave it's too bad you missed the game last night. Lee's performance was simply one of the 4 or 5 best pitching performances ever in a World Series game. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=4604260 [Hat on] Ghosty, like I said in a post yesterday I can't believe that writer from the Times gave the Yankees BP the edge. If the Yankees lose the WS it will be because of the "bridge to Mo" problem. Conversely, if the Phillies lose it will be because of their "Lidge oh no!" problem, otherwise their BP is pretty solid. Interesting pitching match up tonight. Obvious must game for the Yanks but the Phillies need it too. Don't want the Yankees to have any momentum going into Philly. Especially w/ Hamels due to pitch game 3. Message to Chollie - start Happ.
  23. Man, my basketball fantasy league held its draft on Monday night. I drafted Blake Griffin. About an hour after the draft ended the Clippers announced that Griffin broke his kneecap on Friday night. Why the 3 day wait?? Thanks a lot.
  24. The Phils haven't announced a game 4 starter. Lee threw 122 pitches only 9 more than CC. So if CC comes back for the 4th game you can bank on Chollie going w/ Lee.
