Loved Mo even though he killed my Phillies in 2009. Best. Closer. Ever.
-
Concerned about Halladay. He has not looked good the past couple of starts. Velocity is down too. Ugh. Halladay leaves Phillies for personal reasons
-
Very sad news. I always enjoyed watching him play just as long as it wasn't vs. the Eagles. BU wants to study Seau's brain.

Last night Ryan Braun became the first player ever to hit 3 homers(and a triple) in one game at Petco Park in San Diego.

I saw that too. What a bonehead. TNT just showed a post game interview w/ Rondo and he said he tripped and his momentum carried him into the ref. Yeah, right.

"We try and play to a tradition. We don't ah.... Music is not a fad, and uh music ain't a style, and it ain't none of that stuff that it has to serve. Music ain't theater. it ain't all that stuff and it's, you know, you can make music do lots of things because music don't care."'

Who can stop them in the East? Maybe Boston. Oops! I mean maybe Pittsburgh. Oops! Seriously though their path is clear now to the finals. -
Wow. Torn ACL. That sucks.

I hope Derrick Rose's knee is alright. Question - with the Bulls up by 20 points with 4 minutes to go and their star player has a history of injuries, why didn't they take him out of the game???

The band, which recently celebrated its tenth anniversary, will follow up their thrilling, acclaimed performances of pieces by innovative jazz saxophonists Rudresh Mahanthappa and Steve Coleman with this new addition to their weighty repertoire. Born in Chicago in 1930, Muhal Richard Abrams’ lifetime spans much of the history of modern jazz, a fact reflected in his style-spanning compositions. In 1965 he co-founded the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), a loose organization devoted to expanding opportunities for forward-thinking jazz artists and for incubating new approaches unhindered by limitations of genre or tradition. At 81, Abrams continues to wield an enormous influence through his recordings and teachings, not least through some of modern jazz’s most important musicians. Pianists Jason Moran and Vijay Iyer and saxophonists Steve Coleman and Greg Osby are among those who cite Muhal’s profound impact. http://arsnovaworkshop.org/events/bobby-zankels-warriors-wonderful-sound-meet-muhal-richard-abrams-04-28-2012 *For only $25, join us at 5:30pm for a special reception featuring live music and a complimentary drink at the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz, 738 South Broad Street. A bus will leave from the Clef Club at 6:30pm for the performance at MCCC and return to the Clef Club following the performance. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Over the past several weeks, local music writer Shaun Brady (Jazz Times, Philadelphia City Paper, Philadelphia Inquirer) has contributed a four-part series of blog posts and videos about the project which appeared on the Ars Nova Workshop website. Part One: Brady talks to Zankel about the 10-year history of the Warriors and the ensemble's new project with Abrams. http://arsnovaworkshop.org/blog/muhal-meets-warriors-part-14 Part Two: Brady interviews Zankel and pianist JASON MORAN, who is the Artistic Advisor for Jazz at the Kennedy Center and a former student of Abrams'. http://arsnovaworkshop.org/blog/muhal-meets-warriors-part-24 Part Three: Brady talks to pianist VIJAY IYER about how Abrams has deeply influenced his own work. http://arsnovaworkshop.org/blog/muhal-meets-warriors-part-34 Part Four: Brady interviews long-time Warriors ensemble members Daniel T. Now about to start the 2nd OT. So glad the Flyers didn't draw the Rangers this round. Although I guess it's just delaying the inevitable disappointment. The Rangers really have the Flyers number this season. -
Thanks for posting that link. I love the part around the 37:40- 38:12 mark when John Simon and Levon are listening to the playback of "Rockin' Chair" and JS says "I love this part here," and Levon, who is just totally wrapped up in the music replies,"me too." They're like two teenage fans - totally giggling and grooving to the music. So great to see them have that love for something they recorded 30 years previously. Edit: Also, am I alone in thinking that Rick Danko's singing/voice got better as he got older? His signing on "King Harvest" in the video is absent the forced mannerisms that marked his singing on the original version(and his singing from that era.) His voice also sounds fuller and he has no problems hitting those high notes.

Caps win in OT!! Man, that was a great game. Awesome goal tending by both goalies. I think the Bruins out played the Caps the last period and it looked like the momentum was going Boston's way in OT. But a turnover proved deadly. Alas. -
No arbitrator's written explanation for the Ryan Braun case decision?

Why Are Ahmad Jamal Albums Always Trashed?
Chalupa replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Too bad then that the previous owner squeezed all the enjoyment out of it already. Have to say I don't think it reflects that well on stores that carry trashed LPs. Oh those are fodder for the $1.00 bin. -
Why Are Ahmad Jamal Albums Always Trashed?
Chalupa replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
As a friend of mine that owns a used record store says,"That's not a 'trashed' lp, that's a 'previously enjoyed' lp." -
I've given up on ever acquiring a copy. Maybe JLH will re-issue???

Flyers! -
Brad Lidge's 2nd blown save this week has to be a cause for concern though.

Top of the 2nd in Detroit and the first 3 Texas batters have smacked hits. 9-0. At what point do they pull the pitcher? Or maybe they leave him to spare the bullpen? Edit They yanked Porcello after the last batter. Gonna be a long day for the Detroit bullpen
-
Holy crap! Top of the first in Detroit and Texas has plated 8.Currently one out and a man on third. Edit: Mid 1st. Porcello's line 7 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO, 1HR, 46 pitches.
