  1. I do care deeply about the 2007 Tour. Just not in the positive sense. I'm heartbroken to say that. Cycling was, for well over half my life (in duration), my WHOLE life - riding, racing, coaching, supporting, advocating... No more. I do miss it.

  3. I didn't. The last time I was in Vegas (2002 maybe?) there was a club out there called the Blue Note, that had pretty big name acts like McCoy Tyner, but the tixs were pricey and so was the food! This time I saw nothing (maybe I was looking in the wrong places) and the Blue Note appears to be gone. And if saw that Ronnie Foster was playing there, hell yeah I would've gone Foster's changed since "Two Headed Freap", but he's still worth seeing/hearing.
  4. And did you check out Ronnie Foster?
  5. they only put meat on the pizza if you ask for it. True, but most cheese contains meat (rennet, made from the stomachs of calves). And for me, I don't do dairy or yeast. Or eggs, though they're more rare in pizza crust, I s'pose. And yes, sometimes I feel like I'm 'missing out'.
  6. Yeah, I can remember hanging out in the so-called LaVal's underground, for concerts and after trips to Leopolds, Tower, Rasputins... Now, sadly, she's gone. And, in it's place, there's a thoroughly sterile LaVal's in Alameda.
  7. Quick pizza-related aside. My friends always used to send me out to pick up the pizza...after they learned a lesson. Before, they'd sent one of my friends, Pat (R.I.P. old friend). Well once, Pat came back, and the pizza looked a little funny. He had some story about it sliding around in the box and getting messed up. I counted up the slices; hmmm, an odd number. Seems that Pat used to snag a slice, then reconstruct the remainder on his way back to the flat. How long he pulled this off, we'll never know, but he always had seemed a little more than willing to make the trek. I, the non-pizza-eater, became the go-to guy.
  8. I'm vegetarian, so I've no first-hand knowledge of pizza, though I certainly have had some fine times in pizza joints here and there. In the San Francisco area, it used to be Zachary's...before they went all chainy. Pizza Luce in Minneapolis. Joe's on Manhattan, not to mention Ray's and Ray's and Ray's and Ray's. Village in LA. Aldo's in Fresno. Nicntoni's in Phoenix/Gilbert. La Bella Vita in Brussels. Pizza Land in Muscat. Pizza 69 all over Iceland.
  9. Just hit the East Bay this morning, so I'd been thinking about you anyway. And now I find out it's your birthday. Ain't that a coinkydink? Happy one to you.
  10. Happy birthday, Stereojack!
  11. I'm definitely on the backside of the mid-life slope. My health is deteriorating notably. But life's never been better. I've got time to read and listen to music - both of which I enjoy much more now. I don't give much care to work, death, chasing women or looking great, all of which were distractions when I was younger.
  12. My apologies for posting 'old news'. I'd rather thought this was a new sale.
  13. Anyone heard "Hip Boots"? I'd be interested in anyone else's take on this one. I'll post some thoughts once I listen to it again.
  14. http://www.jr.com/JRSectionView.process?Se...ueNote.20070701 Haven't checked in-store prices yet.
  15. Zia's has a bunch of locations and is okay for CDs. (Seems like Tempe was the best location, but I'm fuzzy on this now.) Other places I've been, over the years - some may now be gone. Bookman's in Mesa Prickly Pair, Record Surplus (better-than-average) and Tracks in Wax in Phoenix East Side Records and Memory Lane (spendy) in Tempe
  16. Just got to Santa Clara (Silicon Valley), CA. Beau-ti-ful.
  17. First, thanks for posting the clip. I like Scotty just fine; always have (20+ years). Pleasant listening in the positive sense. I like Wayne too...though here he leaves me cold. Normally, I think Wayne's energy would trump Scott's 'cool breeze', but this just seems like energy being thrown about without much relevance to the specific situation/song. All that said, I'll check it out again later.

    Archie Shepp

Any comments on the (relatively) new "First Take" with Shepp and Siegfried Kessler on Archie Ball? I've enjoyed these two together in the past and will certainly be picking this up at some near-term date.
  19. If I had to spend it on myself, no doubt: live music.
  20. Under the circumstances, I'd set it aside to buy something nice for my wife, a few months down the road. But hey, that's just me.
  21. Nice selection.

  24. I can't find a scan of it, but Dex's original Clubhouse CD cover must qualify among the 'uglies'.
  25. Me? My co-workers? I'd pack noise-cancelling headphones and whatever damn music I want to hear.
