  1. Here.
  2. Your mistake is in filing alphabetically by the "leader's" name. I file everything under the bass player's name. (Okay, some small problems with the Double Quartets and some Trane dates...) Where's the fun in that? It's all about 'The Hunt'. So, would that be filed under Dex or Wardell? And don't get me started on how Record Stores file things.

    WO ! MAN

Yes, I've been trying to obtain a copy and hope to soon.
  4. Stormy Weather and and Nicholas Brothers for sure! The Crimson Canary with Coleman Hawkins, Howard McGhee, Oscar Pettiford, Sir Charles Thompson, and Denzil Best playing “Sweet Georgia Brown” The jazz club scene in D.O.A. (1950 version)
  5. Seems like 48 more would be enough. Whatever's left would be United State of America. I'm betting on Utah.
  6. Lee Morgan - Sidewinder (Blue Note via Pacific Jazz) Anthony Braxton - Montreux/Berlin Concerts (Arista)

    Gene Harris

    Paging Gene Harris Fanatic.
  8. Actually, I think I've crossed paths with Dan (Gene Harris?), so I'll add a friendly Happy Birthday.
  9. I'm new here and don't really know anyone yet, but I think it's "friendly" and gives this board a sense of community others don't have. Sometimes participants here bicker a bit, but y'all seem like a group I would like to be part of. (Grammarians, check out that sentence-ending preposition.)
  10. I believe John Lewis plays some harpsichord on the MJQs "Blues on Bach".
  11. I thought this Utne Reader article was interesting. It puts the Lomax/Morton interview into broader context as a recorded interview, and as a bit of a wild ride for the interviewer.
  12. (From the OP) Thanks for all the thoughts, comments and poll votes. This has long been a slightly troubling situation for me. I'm a (lousy) musician. I don't or can't dance. (The line here is blurry.) I've always found myself unable to do much with music, other than listen. If it's worth dancing to, it's worth listening to. Oh, I tap my feet and listen in other "active" ways, but, fundamentally, I can't dance. Too few operating brain cells, perhaps. I threw in the "Voluntarily" because, well, men desiring to get married or stay happily married may be dancing to an "external motivator". At least that was my experience. I've attributed my condition to being a musician - not that NO jazz musicians dance - but I have thought that my playing left me in a different place, dancing-wise, than my non-playing wife. And so my fascination continues.
  13. I'd thought...perhaps "hoped"...that this was another pictures/images thread. My price stickers often bring back memories. "Ah yes, I found this on vacation" or some such thing.
  14. Hey, no thinking outside the box.
  15. I've got Vol. 2 of the Ace issues, and I had a couple of the Specialtys. I'm a bad judge, since the music isn't really "my thing"; I'd picked them up as part of a research project. The Red Callender stuff was of interest, but I enjoyed the 'Spoon and Memphis Slim cuts too. Can't go wrong with Scatman Crothers, of course
  16. Oakland A's, 1973 +-. Sal Bando, Rollie Fingers, Bert (Campy)Campaneris, Gene Tenace, Catfish Hunter, Vida Blue, Ray Fosse, Joe Rudi, Blue Moon Odom, Jesus Alou, Manny Trillo, Reggis somebodyoranother. I haven't paid one bit of attention to sports since then. But in 1973...
  17. Just got a new catalog from Music Direct. This is a generally well-regarded mail order and Chicago brick-and-mortar store that generally sells merchandise that aspires toward high-quality sound. I've had a couple of fine transactions with them, in their store. Current "budget" turntable listings: Pro-Ject Debut III $369 with tonearm and cartridge Music Hall USB-1 $249 with arm and cartridge Rega RP1 $445 with arm Pro-Ject RM-1.3 $499 with arm and cartridge
  18. Even if you order a box of stuffed animals? Or a crate of them? Heck, I order them by the menagerie.
  19. A 40% off coupon for Borders. It's good until the 13th. And it's good online. Seems like someone (like me) could make a "box bargain" out of it. http://www.bordersmedia.com/coup/20110610sa40.html?cmpid=SA_20110610. Note: Excludes stuffed animals.
  20. If you haven't already discovered, in Record mode, the computer keyboard (A, S, D, F... row) is a major scale keyboard, good for a 10th. http://goo.gl/doodle/8CAC I'm a star.
  21. Anyone else consider Louis Smith's "Here Comes..." a de facto Buckshot La Funke date?
  22. As I recall, Amazon had eight copies of this when I posted on the 16th. Today they are down to their last one at this price. Yes, but: "We are not able to ship this item to your default shipping address." Post Office Box? That's happened to me.
