  1. Picked this up tonight at Landlocked and it’s living up to Jason’s preview. They sound locked in. I’d love to see this band in person.
  2. Fantastic series, I agree! I hope there are more volumes to come.
  3. How The 10 Postseason Teams Were Built
  4. Looks like that could well be the case for Cubs and Brewers too. Two Monday bonus games!
  5. As a grade-school kid in the late 70s I had seized upon the classic Jefferson Airplane hits as galvanizing favorites, but man oh man did I bliss out to some of the Balin-penned or sung Jefferson Starship songs that top 40 radio was playing back then—“Miracles,” “With Your Love,” “Runaway,” “Count On Me.” Lots of great sunny-70s-FM-radio-afternoon memories courtesy of Mr. Balin.
  6. I may try to make it down there in March with a friend of mine who’s attended before. Looks like a fantastic lineup, and it’d be fun to cross paths with some fellow Organissimos as well.
  7. This and the Fibber McGee and Molly book both look really interesting, Matthew. Right now:
  8. A Merrier Christmas Benny Green recording of it: Duh! I completely forgot about that one... I've never gotten around to picking it up, shamefully. Adding to the wish-list right now.
  9. Frank was also a friend of Andrew Hill’s and was/is an advocate of Hill’s music. Has anybody ever done an album of Hill compositions?
  10. I won't be able to catch it, but others in the Chicago area might be interested: Mike Reed to debut "The City Was Yellow" at Hyde Park Jazz Fest
  11. Nate Chinen will be talking about his new book with Mike Reed at Constellation in Chicago this Friday evening: Nate Chinen in conversation with Mike Reed at Constellation I'll be there with Aaron Cohen (former DownBeat editor, author of liner notes for the Mosaic Bee Hive set and an excellent 33 1/3 book about Aretha Franklin's Amazing Grace); would love to meet up as well with any other Chicago-area Organissimos who might be interested in attending.
  12. Yeah, Gary has had a less-than-stellar year, that's for sure. His BA's even lower now than it was when he came off the DL (.188 then, .182 after yesterday's game)
  13. I don't have it--wish that I did! Also wish that Stuttgart November 1 concert would come out in official form... weird that it wasn't on Live Trane: The European Tours.
  14. Last week's Night Lights show, delving into another year of the John Coltrane story, is now up for online listening: Trane '63: A Classic, A Challenge, A Change
  15. I was at the movies all afternoon and didn't see the score and rundown till well after the game had ended, but wtf? Bringing in Cole at the top of the 6th when NY was up by only two runs? Why on earth didn't Boone go to Sonny Gray, who's actually pitched quite well against the Orioles this year and hasn't been used of late? Gray potentially gives you several innings as well. A clunker by the offense again after the first, but man, I feel as if Boone has thrown away a number of games this year with very poor bullpen choices when we've either been narrowly ahead or narrowly behind. Plus Didi is probably out for the season after injuring his wrist last night on the last play of the game. At this rate we'll be lucky to make it out of the WC game.
  16. I'd forgotten all about it--somehow I don't think I have a copy of it! But glad others have been able to enjoy the compilation of FW's recorded appearances.
  17. Boston’s oft-maligned ‘pen came through tonight, while the Yankees’ “vaunted” version was a dumpster fire, with the exception of D-Rob. I think we might be better off just issuing Mookie an IBB every time he comes up.
  18. My parents saw that as well! My dad just gave me a framed promotional poster for it.
  19. I've been meaning to revisit this set for quite awhile now. This weekend will be a good time to do it!
