  1. Onto a million! We could call it "the million-Organissimo march."
  2. Well, if it was me, and if it was the "Barbie On A Crucifix" pic in The Babe Thread, all I can say is " " Isn't that what this board is all about? At least it wasn't Norah Jones on a crucifix!
  3. I think it was indeed Jsngry in the Babe thread at 12:48 p.m. Can B-3er verify? Hey, Organissimo, you've turned 100,000!
  4. LOOK OUT, SHE'S GONNA BLOW!!!!!!!
  5. If she loves you she will go. Particularly if you pay for her ticket, as I'm doing with my wife.
  6. ... either that or Berigan posting some jive from Drudge!
  7. I dibs Jsngry in the babes thread at approximate 1300 hours.
  8. Wow, we're getting close!
  9. You never know--they could dub her in with Stuff & Jonah on "I'se a Muggin'." Any word on what the next regular Mosaic set will be? Woody Herman on Columbia? MC made no mention of forthcoming sets, regular or Select, in the brochure.
  10. And he's bringing Uri Caine and Chris Potter with him!
  11. Hey, all, I'm looking for a copy of a 1954 Hampton Sisters single, put out as Savoy 1125: My Heart Tells Me/Hey Little Baby. If you have a copy or know of one that's available, could you contact me via PM? Thanks much!
  12. It's OOP, but Amazon has a number of used copies for sale. I read it many years ago and think you would get something out of it... Here's the Library Journal's review & synopsis:
  13. Shite! Not even a free box-set of blindfold tests? Oops, gotta go... my computer's crashing for some strange reason.
  14. All right, that was 99,000. Do I get a warm-up prize?
  15. C'MON, BABY, SPIN THAT COUNTER!
  16. I remember having a religious-like experience the first time that I saw Coltrane performing on video. It was a black-and-white TV show from around '61--he was playing "My Favorite Things"--and as I watched him play I felt like weeping. A kind of joyous weeping that I'd associate with being in the presence of a strong, benevolent spiritual force.
  17. "Jazz is my religion"--Ted Joans (wish I could find the whole poem to post) Lon, have you ever read Neil Leonard's JAZZ: MYTH AND RELIGION?

    Ran Blake

Joe Milazzo has weighed in with great elan and insight on Blake before. In addition to his postings, there's this 2001 One Final Note article: freedomtocontemplate I love the SONIC TEMPLES that Late touted at the beginning of the thread. In addition to the much-discussed NEWEST SOUND AROUND, I'm also a big fan of PAINTED RHYTHMS (have only V. 1, am still on the hunt for V. 2) and the Silver tribute; I also have a soft spot for UNMARKED VAN. A lot of Blake I haven't heard, though, and I'm looking forward to encountering more of his work.
  19. Herbie Nichols, COMPLETE BLUE NOTE (been a long time--practically inhaled all 3 discs) Curtis Amy, MOSAIC SELECT discs 1, 2 Dave Pell Octet, PLAYS IRVING BERLIN Joe Henderson, SO NEAR, SO FAR John Coltrane, Showboat Philadelphia 6/63 (just noticed--damn, am I on a tenor kick or what?)
  20. Whew... I'm just glad that they didn't sign Kenny Loggins.
  21. Man, I would love to be in Dublin come June 16 this year. When my wife and I bought our house several years ago, on June 16, I said, "Hey, we're closing on Bloomsday!" The realtor and the bank people looked at me with polite, restrained smiles... My wife was probably thinking, "Great, schmoe, we're gonna blow it at the last moment!" bloomsday100
  22. verahomepage And this from AMG: For some reason I thought that he'd died recently, but I think I'm confusing him with somebody else who wrote a lot of the liner notes for Capitol's Black and White/Imperial re-issue program--Pete Welding.
  23. I got that one for my dad for Christmas and he was very pleased. Might have to snag a copy for myself...
  24. I like the Cootie Williams and Buddy Rich big-band sides... there's some early Gator Jackson, if I recall correctly... and a lot of Helen Humes as well as Albert Ammons, including the only father/son session (that I know of) with Gene!
