  1. What's that, "rules"? Around here it's a verb rather than a noun... as in, "Organissimo rules, man!"
  2. HEY TWERP! IT'S C-H-A-N-E-Y! B) He's just betraying his political roots, Tony!
  3. Looks to be just about set. The first sentence, I believe, is a typo (I think they mean "closer" rather than "away"): Greg, I thought it was the Players' Union that nixed the Bosox deal... because they felt that it devalued Rodriguez's contract too much.
  4. I was told a couple of years ago that it had been terminated.
  5. Now that's brotherly love!
  6. Glad the board's fixed... did you know that AAJ now bans any mention of Organissimo board problems? WTF?
  7. Same here, only one time. This thread is actually making me want to re-visit it. I, too, have listened all the way through only once, but I remember it being a pleasurable experience...
  8. Well, not quite yet... So how does this play out? Rodriguez is only two years older than Soriano... Yanks probably improve defensively at second base and nail down the third-base problem. Rodriguez and Jeter together in the infield... that'd be quite a sight! What's going on with the pitching staff, though? I haven't really followed the baseball news lately. Also, Williams and Giambi are both aging goods--Nick Johnson is gone--I gotta start getting up to speed here!
  9. Hey, that's really exciting, Dan! I'll definitely be interested to read the results of your interview--in the meantime, have a great Valentine's dinner with your wife.
  10. Still getting the "mail error" message when I send PMs... no big deal, just a minor irritant.
  11. Any stateside distribution for these yet? Doesn't look like Cadence has them...
  12. Still haven't finished THE BIG TOMORROW, but seriously thinking about giving this new one a go, if I can find the time, especially as it's written by a semi-reputable historian:
  13. Don't worry, Ber, the Yanks can't possibly win the Series this year--a Republican will still be in office, no matter how the November election turns out. The American League championship, OTOH, is not affected by the GOP curse.
  14. Check out the thread right below this one. B-3er says it's been fixed; in the meantime, your messages/posts should have been going through anyway, in spite of the message.
  15. Brownie, Sent you an e-mail. Thanks!
  16. Er--not needle exchanges, Doc. Or, ah, sexual exchanges, though I know you find those highly intriguing. In fact, my post offers an overt case of self-delusion, as I attempt to perpetuate the notion that a veritable bevy of Organissimo posters are regularly trying to get in touch with me, hence hoping to bolster the idea that I am a popular and much-loved fellow (of course, it could also be that I owe them CD-Rs or large sums of money).
  17. Jazzmessenger, you're from Indy, I take it... did you make the show last night? They opened with the title track from STRANGE LIBERATION, but didn't really start snapping into their groove, I thought, until the second piece... a new one (tentatively titled "Shape of Things to Come") that highlighted the suspended, urban-compulsive tension that seems to be at the heart of Douglas' quintet sound. Evidently this was their opening show on the tour. Nice version of "Skeeter-ism" from the new album, with a long, amusing intro by Douglas about how his 7-year-old inspired it... Great to hear Uri Caine live on the Fender Rhodes, and Clarence Penn gave the band some needed kick on percussion. Chris Potter seemed a bit withdrawn for the first half of the set but really caught fire by the end, particularly on a long number that I think was based on some Miles head (driving me crazy that I can't think of the name). Hope others on the board get a chance to catch this group on tour; Sal, will you be at the Green Mill tonight?
  18. You're not the only one... I keep thinking that whenever I see this thread on "Active Topics" as well. Well, Moose, we certainly know what our "active topics" are, don't we?
  19. Yeah, a couple of board members & I have had similar problems in our exchanges. Er--let me re-state that: dozens and dozens of board members & I have been having a similar problem in our exchanges.
  20. I'm one of those fans, Chrome, and I really wish I could make it over there this year for the Centennial. I'm sure it will be a blast... I have yet to make the pilgrimage to the Martello Tower.
  21. I just spent a pretty fascinating lunch break at the Lilly Library here in Bloomington. During my research for this program I came across a listing for a treatment of "Jump for Joy" that Duke Ellington dictated to Orson Welles in the summer of 1941; it's included in a large box of manuscripts that forms part of Lilly's Orson Welles collection. The treatment itself is only 4 typed pages (I'm assuming Welles' secretary, rather than Welles himself, typed it up) and included some material that I hadn't come across before, like the introduction to the so-called "Noel Coward" sketch: In every Broadway colored show the sketches start to sicken when they show a frightened darkie as he tries to steal a chicken They must always have us playing in a crap game that is witless or else they show us madly praying for a melon that is pitless Away with honey chile and yassuh Excuse me massah is you stayin' Let us check into the plaza with a drawing room to play in So farewell to tradition and poor Mammy's old bandanna while we place on exhibition life in the Noel Coward manner Welles wanted to buy JUMP FOR JOY and make it a Mercury Theater production, but Duke and the other JFJ producers didn't want to give up rights to it. Welles' enthusiasm for JFJoy spilled over somewhat into his aborted project IT'S ALL TRUE, and I saw several manuscripts for that (the famous "Jazz Sequence"), but didn't have time to read them... there were also 1941 and '42 manuscripts of THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS. Man, I'm going to have to go back when I have an afternoon to kill!
  22. Looks like it's mostly "standard" standards to me, with the exception of the Simon and the Radiohead song ("Everything In Its Right Place"): 1. Get Happy 2. Dreamsville 3. Anything Goes 4. Tres Palabras 5. Skippy 6. Nearness Of You, The 7. Still Crazy After All These Years 8. Everything In Its Right Place 9. Smile 10. I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face
  23. Heard one cut off this so far--a cover of Paul Simon's "Still Crazy After All These Years." Inspired choice, though they didn't do as much with it as I'd hoped they would.
  24. $4.16 plus tip?
