  1. Why does he need a driver's license? He's already driving the lane...
  2. No, I'm going with the orginal question. The last recording I would listen to before the big dirtnap would be G Force, by Kenny G. Death would be a blessing.
  3. One of the first recordings I ever bought on the interweb was a compilation called Untouchable Outcaste Beats, after I was blown away hearing the track Mathar by Dave Pike that leads off the recording. Most of the material is drum'n'bass stuff with sitars and tablas, but I still like it. Sounds good in the car on long trips. And the Ananda Shankar recording, Walking On, recorded with drum'n'bass guy State of Bengal (not his real name) is perfect for someone who likes sitars and tablas, but isn't ready to sit still through a whole raga. Very groovy stuff.
  4. I agree. I've seen a lot of movies where people go to Mars and things always go badly for them. Wait for Mars to come to us!
  5. I don't remember Ornette doing a second encore in Minneapolis. His last song was Lonely Woman. But during the song he seemed to be having problems with one of the keys on his sax - possibly the G# key spring popped loose or broke (happened to Tim Berne in Atlanta, and me at a recital). He (Ornette) worked around it, but when he walked off I remember thinking, "unless he's going to play the next song on trumpet or violin, this is the end of the show". Then the lights came up.
  6. Corn flakes, corn snakes - it's all good.
  7. My mother used to complement me by saying, "At least you're smart."* * Actually, it was "At least you're not stupid" but I'm trying to put a positive spin on it.
  8. This just in: Mr. T issues statement on CNN...
  9. I don't think it explains anything about autism. It just explains why people on the internet tend to gravitate towards celebrities and porn. High-ranking monkeys:
  10. "It's good to have land". I liked how Peter rattled off the name of all the shows that Fox has started and canceled since Family Guy last aired. Most of my DVDs are shows that Fox has canceled. And Greased-up Deaf Guy made me laugh out loud. Wasn't expecting to see him. Or Ollie the Weatherman.
  11. You sir, are the King.
  12. Dude got a get-out-of-jail free card handed to him on a silver platter. He can walk away from this one and no one in the world would blame him.

When I flew from Atlanta to Minneapolis to see Ornette last week (yeah, I wanted to see him that bad), the shuttle bus from the airport was driving around downtown dropping people off at their hotels. Coming up one street I saw a marquee, "Jazz, Sunday Night" and I'm thinking that this might be something to hang around and check out. Then I see the rest of the marquee: "Chris Botti". Swing and a miss. A couple of streets later, I see a medium-sized billboard with the text "Appearing Mother's Day at the Mystic River Casino - Kenny G" with a big photo of the G-Man in all of his pedestrian glory. All I could do was look away and say a quick prayer "Oh Ornette, please come to this city to save your people from these false profit$!" Seven hours later, prayer granted. Speaking of smooth jazz, when's that 20th anniversary expanded edition of Song X coming out?
  14. The police called off the search Friday night when they found that her start page had been set for www.greyhound.com.
  15. Meh. It's been done before.
  16. Happy Birthday!!
  17. Anthony Braxton, George Lewis/Kenny Wheeler, Dave Holland and Barry Altschul.
  18. The Legend of Bebop is one of Ornette's best compositions. Don't know why it never caught on with other musicians. The rest of the songs are good too, and the recording is amazingly cohesive, despite have three different bassists and two different drummers.
  19. Oh, man! Yes, the show was incredible. Sorry I couldn't hang out after the show WD45 but I was sick as hell, almost nodded off during Lonely Woman. Had to beat it back to the hotel before I went under. All totaled, this concert cost me about $600 and it was worth every penny. All the new material was great, their reworking of Mob Job blew me away, and Ornette's violin playing was amazing (not in terms of technique, but rather in application). Those times when he would get the string trio thing going with the two bassists was way cool. And Denardo - never liked him before but I have a much greater appreciation for him after seeing him live. Somebody needs to get these guys into the studio and get this stuff down on tape. And even though I didn't get to meet Ornette after the show, when I got back to my hotel, the lobby, floors, and elevators were filled with girls in town for some volleyball tournament, running back and forth between the pool and their rooms - bikinis everywhere. Some nights are just perfect like that.
  20. This means I'm going to outlive my money. If I live longer, I'll need to be healthier so I don't go broke with medical expenses, so I need to adopt a healthier lifestyle, which would make me live longer... I shouldn't have blown all of my money on CDs and out-of-state Ornette concerts.
  21. Ditto. Pressed 1000, gave away 100, use the other 900 as replacements for broken jewelcases.
  22. Yeah, I'm up for it. Anybody got an idea for where to meet?
  23. Sounds reasonable. Send her over.
  24. Who you calling "false"?
