  1. Valentine's Day is when you're put on notice about how many gifts you have to buy the following month. When I would visit Japan over Valentine's Day, the women in the office would load me up with chocolates. Of course I'd be on the other side of the world when White Day rolled around, so I never had to get anyone anything - the perfect crime... B-)
  2. Cute - and practical!
  3. "Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son." - Dean Wormer
  4. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. Good one, AfricaBrass!
  5. Shouldn't that be "pro-boner"?
  6. Congrats!!!
  7. I'm a software engineer - been at the same company for 16 years. Used to design cellular phones (never owned one though), then automotive electronics. Now I write software for for testing of products during production. I spend half my day thinking about lunch, and the other half thinking about going home.
  8. That was using his noggin.
  9. Been there, done that, bought the DVD...
  10. I have an Appalachian-American heritage. Maybe I should stick to the Skoal forum.
  11. Hey - don't be posting any beaver shots without a NSFW warning. Some of us are reading this at the office!
  12. Here's the club's website: Will's Loch Haven Pub. Sam's playing two shows per night, every Wednesday in February. PS: If you go, you must post a review!
  13. Classic Paul Lynde Hollywood Squares quote: Q: What is a "dual purpose cow?" Lynde: It gives milk and cookies. But I wouldn't recommend the cookies. Also hosted the worst show worth staying up for (if you're a kid): Paul Lynde Halloween Special (1976) with musical guests KISS. Picture of Ace from the show:
  14. Best host ever. I used to beg my mother to let me stay up late to watch the Carson show on the nights Jim Fowler or Joan Embery were scheduled to appear. Wish I could find the picture of the monkey peeing on Carson's head.
  15. Far as I know he's writing liner notes for Club releases featuring his era of KC. Hope he is playing some saxophone in his spare time as well. In 2004 I saw Mel Collins playing with a King Crimson tribute band, 21st Century Schizoid Band, alongside Ian McDonald, Ian Wallace, Peter Giles, and singer/guitarist Jakko Jakszyk. There's a review of it on this thread here. Incredible show - if you get the chance, go see them.
  16. Where there's fish, there's CHiPs!
  17. I wonder if they're ever going to get around to doing that Buddy Rich biopic that's been in Limbo forever: "Miguel Ferrer is set to start with the K-Street and Ocean’s Eleven combo of Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney producing. The movie is expected to have a 2004 release date..."
  18. Timely post - I just got Elvis' Imperial Bedroom and Punch the Clock CDs yesterday. I've only listened to the Punch bonus disc and there's a lot of great material on it - live cuts, rehearsal tapes, demos - even a cover of a Yoko Ono song! But the best part is that the booklets for each CD are like volumes in a book, with EC telling stories (most of them involving alcohol) about what was going on during the periods that the original albums were recorded and released. Unfortunately, the Armed Forces booklet had a cliffhanger ending with Bebe Buell showing up on EC's London doorstep, and my re-reissue of Get Happy didn't continue the story. The Nashville stories about the Almost Blue recording sessions are great. When EC writes his autobiography, it should be a very entertaining read.
  19. Happy Birthday!
  20. my money's on the odds that batitista's not even aware of that recording... Or Sadao Watanabe's 1985 release, Parker's Mood.
  21. Off-thread, but a stupid question/smart response just the same: Back in '82, I was riding around with a carload of friends. One guy was digging through a box looking for a cassette tape. After passing over Foghat, Skynyrd, Charlie Daniels, etc... he pulls out a cassette of Beethoven (not sure why it was in there). He reads name on the cassette and says, "Who the hell is Beet-thoven?" Another guy in the car snaps back, "You know - he played rhythm guitar for Nugent: Derek St. Beet-thoven." First guy never had (or got) a clue. Now back to your regularly scheduled thread...
  22. Happy Birthday!
  23. What goes up, Must come down, Spinning Wheel, yada yada yada...
