  1. If that was spam, he sure nailed his target audience.
  2. That's our finance guy's house - the most beautiful house I've ever been in. The company's dwindled in size so much that we could all ride over there in one minivan. Also: as an encore, I played Smoke on the Water. Then I played air hockey.
  3. Happy Birthday!
  4. Me at the 2004 office Christmas party. As is typical with large groups of people, there was a cello. I had never touched a cello before. This photograph ('objet d'art', if you will) is of me performing the world premiere of my original composition, Improvisation for Solo Cello, No. 1 ("Transcendent").
  5. & Dawn?
  6. Happy Birthday!
  7. I set a goal. I have to listen to 100 CDs before I can buy one more. Multiple-CD sets count as 1 CD. I have a CD player at work so I figure I'll limit my purchases to one CD every 3 weeks. Three days in and so far, so good. Listening to Roscoe Mitchell's In Walked Buckner right now.

  11. One of my favorites - I've always prefered the actor-actors as opposed to the star-actors. Not many out there that could hold a candle to Jerry Orbach.
  12. Steve Lehman. Karolina Strassmayer.
  13. Happy Birthday
  14. Happy Birthday, oh antlered mammal.
  15. Just my luck - I'll be 65, ready to retire, and a damn asteroid has to come along and hit the Earth. On the other hand, I won't have to worry about outliving my money...
  16. I voted for Christmastime is Here. Back when I could remember the first couple of chords, I would sit down at a piano (somewhere in public) and play the familiar song. That would get everyone's attention and everyone would smile and come over to the piano. Then I would drift off and say, "Sorry, I only know the first few chords." I did the same thing with a guitar and Stairway to Heaven in Japan and got a very polite round of applause after trailing off about eight chords in. My favorite Christmas recording is of a December 25th, 1971 Modern Jazz Quartet concert, with guest Paul Desmond. They open with a nice Greensleeves waltz, play a couple of standards, then do a funky, psuedo-sleighbell-driven Jesus Christ Superstar. The recording is on the Red Baron label and is truely one of Paul Desmond's finest moments (so much so, that John Lewis fought for years to have it released).
  17. Those two concertos should be in the standard repetoire. They're great.
  18. Tommy Tedesco Bob Brookmeyer Slam Stewart Connie Kay - not the same letters, but some catchy alliteration going on there.
  19. Holiday Card: $2.00 Postage Stamp: $0.37 Covering all the bases: Priceless
