I notice PITA has used the same tactic (submit an ad and have it rejected) to generate the same sort of buzz. And I suspect this is an intentional advertising tactic. Both these outfits submitted ads that they probably suspected might be rejected, and are now benefiting from the buzz created by the rejection itself. Cheap and effective. People want to see the rejected ad. Cheaper than paying for a Super Bowl spot, that's for sure.

This has been kind of danced around here in several comments, but what exactly did Rourke do? I'm not a big follower of this sort of thing. Did he beat up women? Steal money? Commit arson? What's the big human downfall with Rourke. (He does look shockingly worn in this film, or at least in the promos for it).

Thanks for starting this thread, MG. The abbreviation (bb) on the Jabbo Smith recording was a bit of a mystery. And thanks Mikeweil for the great photos and insights here. Now another possible mystery: In the photo below, Mike indicates that there are no trombones. I'm wondering what the instruments are in second row on the left? They look like slide instruments of some kind, although they're mostly obscured so it's hard to tell. Thanks Mike. MG

The Dead were pretty much over for me by the mid-'70s, but American Beauty is a classic album. Europe '72 was kind of my introduction, so I've always had a soft spot for that. And Working Man's Dead, of course.

Indeed I have been mining this thread a bit, as well as the HEP label thread. Lots of great ideas. And thanks for yours above as well.

If this is your first traversal through these, you're in for a major treat! A series of albums that still fascinates and enthralls me after overdosing on 'hard - bop'. True classics! It'll be my introduction. ... after reading through the thread about these recordings the other day.
