    2008 Top Ten

Nice. Thanks. Dig the McCaslin. Irrational Numbers, too. The Moody looks intriguing. They all look intriguing!
  2. That does sound exciting. Allen, you're up to 250 tracks now transferred from vinyl. I'm sure the process is still in it's early stages, but have you been able to estimate roughly how many tracks total you expect to have to work with once all sources (vinyl, CDs, ancient scrolls, etc.) are completed? Kind of an incidental curiosity, since 18 CDs is going to be a mother any way you cut it.
  3. Indeed. I've been waiting for '09 to get here for what seems like an entire year! happy new year.
  4. All I got is a few loose screws. ... Sorry to hear about your injuries, and good luck with your recovery. Oh yeah, and don't forget to ask for some painkillers
  5. (In the voice of Rod Serling) You have entered ... the Mosaic Zone ... a seductive and mysterious island of desire, where the rational mind soon abandons its moorings, and the ghosts from OKeh sessions long since past lurch from their cryptic vaults and pull you in ... to ... the Mosaic Zone. doo-doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo-doo

  7. Sad news. RIP
  8. Or "You Snooze, You Lou's" ? I used to use one of those push mowers to cut the lawn when I was a kid.
  9. Happy that a bunch of new teams are in the postseason, and some regulars are out -- Patriots mainly. I'll be rooting for the Eagles, Falcons, Dolphins, Chargers and Vikings and see how fare any of those can go (that should about cover it). Cowboys and Bucs didn't deserve anything. Both played like shit down the stretch. I guess the Cowboys were a bigger el-foldo, considering they had gobs of talent. The Bucs absolutely went in the tank in December for the third year in a row, but maybe the last month of the season was more indicative of what they are anyways, which is not much. The defense finally ran out of gas after about a seven- or eight-year run. Time to retool at multiple positions, beginning (again) with QB, middle linebacker (Brooks is fading fast), corner (Barber, too), running back (Cadillac may be history with another ripped up knee). The best thing they have going right now is a young and fairly sturdy O-line. Cowboys need a new coaching staff, no doubt. But it's not a surprise that Jerry Jones prefers a weak staff he can dictate to easily.
  10. Best wishes and happy birthday!
  11. Given the duration of some of Braxton's works, this may very well lead to premature wrinkling. Just sayin' ... This seems a bit extreme. But I guess if you've tried all the other alternatives ...
  12. I went to the dark side last night -- dark chocolate side, to be exact. I stole half a chocolate cake from my office refrigerator!! A birthday cake, no less. Home made, it looks like. Walked right out the front door past the aging guard with it. It was sooooo easy. BUT (mitigating factor, judge), it was Saturday night around midnight and the cleaning crew tosses everything that's left in the fridge into the trash on Sunday. Clean sweep (except for mustard and that kind of stuff). So really, I was kind of rescuing the half-eaten cake, you might say. And it had been sitting in there for at least two days untouched. (I had my eye on it for a while). I stole a half a chocolate cake! I can't believe it. ... well, I can believe it. It's chocolate cake. I did ask around first. Everyone said, "Go ahead and take it." But I'm kind of sitting here waiting for the cops to bust in and wrestle the thing away from me. I'd better have a piece now. I wonder if I'll enjoy the stolen goods? What am I going to do when someone asks, "What happened to John's birthday cake?" I'm stayin' quiet. I can see how this life of crime might get addictive. Whaddaya think? Morally indefensible? Am I now one of those repugnant co-workers everybody sneers at? Or maybe just thrifty, not wanting the thing to go to waste? The "I ate the cake to save it" defense.
  13. Thanks Bev. I'm going to pass this one on to dear old dad. He'll love it.
  14. Thanks Lon. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding the term "distributed." It implied to me that the audio work was done prior. I could be off on that, though.
  15. The King Oliver "Complete 1923" I recently purchased is on the label Off The Record, distributed by Archeophone. I assumed that means the re-mastering was not done by Archeophone. I any case, I'm going to mine these a little bit. Thanks all for the comments.
  16. Stumbled across this site and was wondering if anyone was familiar. Warning: When I tried to listen to some sound samples at the site my computer went completely bonkers, opening up tabs in rapid succession for apparently every sound sample on the site. I had to do a hard reboot because there was no way to stop the tabs from popping up at light speed. But, I am curious about these recordings. First stumbled upon them here at amazon. EDIT: I tried a different sound sample and again, computer went bonkers. So, fair warning. (Maybe I'll try disabling tabs to see what happens ... later).
  17. Says temporarily out of stock when I hit the link. Curious, what were they asking?
  18. So ... I haven't dropped in in a while. Anything new with the Yankees or Red Sox? Rays signed pitcher Joe Nelson. Don't know the first thing about him. Maybe it'll put them over the top though. Milton Bradley still a possibility, I guess. Haven't heard a whisper though. There's definitely a pretty glaring need in RF, if he has his head on straight. Heck, even if he doesn't. Maybe they could use a little more "personality." Other than that, about 7 weeks until pitchers and catchers report! ... and we got this dang World Baseball Classic deal again. I'm not a fan. I'm not sure you want your best players -- particularly pitchers -- going all out for country and pride and all that in March. Then again, maybe this Yankee All-Star team will get worn down a little.

  20. Good fella. You're a lucky man. ... Well-stocked, too!
  21. Mmmm. Will look into that. I have the 2007 Monk one. Very nice, particularly the original compositions. On those quadromania's, agree they're a great way to get a swift introduction to music you might not otherwise approach, but what are those symbols down the side of the covers meant to represent?
  22. Wishing you a very happy birthday!
