I think this is clear evidence we should not be using these things. -

This one is currently at the top of my list. Just giving the thread a bump to see what you folks think of it now that it's been a few years. -

Yeah, pretty unreal. The seeming randomness of death can be jarring. She wakes up, has a cup of coffee, smiles at what a glorious day it is, goes out on the bunny hill and ... Hard to make sense of it. RIP.

Yes, from what I've seen of these games they've been a little uneven. ... Which points to one of the main objections to this tournament: players are still just getting their skills sharpened again and can't be expected to perform at anything close to peak levels at this time of year, IMO. That, and the danger of injury, which we've already seen happen. Plus some guys just not getting the playing time they need to get ready for the season. But, as a viewer, I could really sense these guys were locked in at a whole different level in that ninth inning. Course, it helped that Ramero fell apart a little bit and then Cabrera walked in a run with the bases loaded. A great comeback nonetheless and I sure hope they can build on this. This may be a little sacrilege but, it was just kinda nice to see Jeter and Youk jumping up and down like kids together with the rest of the mob chasing Wright. They were genuinely excited. (almost as excited as A-Rod apparently gets when he looks in the mirror)

I'm not a big fan of the WBC, but I sure was tonight. USA's 9th-inning comeback against Puerto Rico was riveting. Every at-bat in the bottom of the ninth was just great, none better than Wright's, which resulted in an opposite-field drive to bring in the tying and winning runs. Great game.

impossible indeed. ... congratulations!

I like Pudge, but man, the Astros are 1-14 this spring. He must really want to play, cause it looks like it might be a long-ass season in Houston.

Hope you had a happy birthday Berigan.

Beautiful photographs. Thanks for posting them.

Watched a bit of "Woodstock" on VH1 last night. CS&N were much better than I remembered. Ten Years After, much less-so. And everyone was layin' the groovyness on as thick as humanly possible. ... It was like they were all on acid or something.

How does your spouse react to your hobby/obsession?
papsrus replied to Dmitry's topic in Miscellaneous Music
She's raiding your collection! Trying to whittle it down one duplicate at a time. This is not tolerance, it's an evil plot masquerading as some sort of indulgence. The woman I'm with enjoys my interest in music. I think she thinks it's kind of a cute, eccentric sort of thing. I don't think she understands the depth of my obsession yet though (with the music, that is). -
Last-place team in a small market, not exactly a glamor location, young quarterback, freezing cold from November on. ... What could go wrong?

I hadn't heard that, Paps, is that because of how he looks or because of innings restrictions? Maddon says he wants to bring him along slowly; doesn't want to burn out his arm. I wouldn't imagine it would be be too long before they call him up. From my point of view, the main concern remains the bullpen and Percival. EDIT: I hadn't been paying that close attention, but our beat guy says Price hasn't even had any game action yet. Hammel or Niemann figure to get the five spot in the rotation to start the season, he says. Price could be called up pretty early and moved into the five spot, especially if the pen falters, with Hammel sliding into a reliever role. Maddon's holding back more than a few players this spring because of the long season last year and the long spring training season this year. Hope he's not waiting too long. Shields made his first start today -- 2 innings, 2 hits, 1 run against the Red Sox B squad.
