  1. Reminds me of a fellow who, when causally asked "How's life?" replied, "Great. Sure is taking long enough though."
  2. I'll have to grab the Live in London disc. I think I was vaguely aware of it, but it wasn't really on the radar. So thanks for the heads-up there. I'm really fascinated with Coin Coin though. Much more thematic, personal, investigation of the/her traditions, etc. She certainly seems to have put a great deal of effort and energy into this project. I wonder if anyone here has seen a live performance of it?
  3. I'll need to think about this.
  4. New release. "Coin Coin Chapter One." Kind of excited to hear this, judging from the samples.
  5. Barbecued (over charcoal, not gas) a rather large, two-inch thick, boneless ribeye tonight, red in the middle and dripping with juices. Threw some portobello mushrooms on the grill as well. On the side, steamed asparagus and baked sweet potato, rolled in olive oil and lightly salted before baking. The whole thing consumed at a very slow and steady pace. Absolute best steak I've had in quite some time.
  6. cool.
  7. Just to make an entirely sexist observation having nothing to do with this woman's demise, playmates sure seemed a lot more appealing back in the day, compared to the bleach blond barbie doll look-a-likes that Heff seems to surround himself with these days. Not that I'm an expert or anything, but ...
  8. From what I've seen, the Lightning have been doing a pretty good job of keeping the Capitals on the perimeter once the Caps cross the blue line into the offensive zone. Tampa gives away a lot of open ice from blue line to blue line though. But I guess that's by design. And at the other end, the Bolts have been able to get some cycling going down low, seem stronger on the puck than the Washington defense. Then, just the way Ovechkin plays, he's kind of a one man show. So he's getting stripped of the puck a lot of times when he tries to do his thing. He doesn't look to set up other guys a lot, but tries to position himself to pull the trigger, and the Bolts have for the most part been all over him. We'll see how it goes from here, but so far the Bolts are looking good against the Caps. My hockey guru tells me they don't match up well at all against the Bruins though. So if those two squads do advance, it'll probably end there and Boston will go on to the finals ... vs. ... the Sharks?
  9. Thanks for the link. The Ellington clip is wonderful!
  10. Struck by Lightning. Tampa seems like they play a pretty tight system and have some talented players. Ovechkin can't do it by himself, try as he might.
  11. Apparently Weaver is ill. Facing Chatwood today instead, and off to a good start with a couple of runs in the bottom of the first. ... er, 5-0
  12. Been watching from the bleachers. They face Weaver and his 0.99 ERA Sunday though. Throwing the Durham Bulls' Alex Cobb out against him. Should be fun.
  13. Finally, something important mentioned in this thread. Is he doing OK? Hope its nothing serious or distressing. Sent you a PM Dan. Thanks for asking.
  14. MI5 have invaded your house and are compelling you? That boat you had dispatched a week or so ago has arrived. (actually, I had to take my dog to the emergency vet tonight. They had it on in the waiting room as well.)
  15. Well, due to some unusual circumstances, I find myself up at 5 a.m. (Eastern Time) and watching the Royal Wedding on CNN.
  16. Hey, what's the point of being a moderator if you don't get to f--- people up from time to time? Seriously -- I may have overstepped the bounds on this one. If so, I'm sorry; I'm certainly not perfect. Well, as a moderator you had every right -- the obligation, even -- to ask questions if you thought something might be fishy. And you should be applauded for dealing with things in a straight forward way. I hope the seller, too, will cut you and JAW some slack for basically doing what you felt was required.
  17. Not my business, but I have to side with the seller here. How he came into possession of the Mosaics, as long as it was legal, is irrelevant. In fact, he implies that he paid for some of the promos. And I dare say the enthusiasm with which they were snapped up demonstrates that those who did buy them had no problem with how the OP acquired them. Someone may disapprove of someone selling something that was given to them, but I'm not sure that alone is unethical at all.
  18. Well, regardless of the ethical considerations, this is one of the most successful sales I've ever seen here. And just to play devil's advocate on the ethical question, I've seen other reviewers here offer sealed promo copies for sale. Not Mosaics, but the principle is the same.
  19. Seconded. Hopefully Jeff will weigh in. He has intimate knowledge of the city and its music scene. Check out OffBeat online for listings of what's going on. And Frenchmen Street is a must.
  20. Is there a jazz singers thread here? That Kral is nice. Keep 'em coming!
  21. Yeah, after listening to some of the sound samples, it does seem to come down to: which is more expressive, the more expressive one or the less expressive one? Still can't muster much indignation over scientists doodling around in areas they apparently shouldn't be.
  22. Pretentiously dumb stuff (printed in the New York Times, from whence it volleys around the Internet) leaves you calm? I suppose I should go read the article. Wasn't commenting specifically on the dumbness of the piece, rather the response to these kinds of things more generally.
  23. Haven't read the article. Not really interested. Maybe later. But more generally, it's curious that these attempts to somehow quantify emotional responses tend to prompt such ... emotional responses.
