  1. Not for me, but for a third party completist. If anyone has a copy they'd be willing to part with, shoot me a PM. thanks
  2. I can go along with that.
  3. With the BoSox and Rays both playing the Yankees and O's this weekend and into next week, the AL East standings could look quite different a short week from now. If the Yankees don't right the ship, and fast (3-7 over their last 10; three-game losing streak) they could easily sink from first just a few days ago to third (or worse) very quickly. Imagine the Red Sox sweep the Yankees, then take care of the O's, and then the Yankees come to Tampa Bay and get hot against the Rays. Suddenly Boston is right there. Stay tuned.
  4. Ditto. Congrats Allen. Sounds as though it was a wonderful night.
  5. Psst. ... Rays, temporarily at least, in first place.
  6. Such a thing would be regarded as the downfall of civilization in the United States.
  7. I'm thinking there are probably countless creaky old wealthy farts who would give up their entire fortunes to trade places with you. ... and I'm thinking there's a lot of crap percolating in tupperware in my fridge that I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot fork. Garbage day is tomorrow.
  8. Last couple of games, the Sharks score to go up, then the Wings bust loose. What's the deal with that? Are the Sharks going into some kind of shell or do the Wings just kick it up a notch? Either way, bad trend for the Sharks.
  9. Yeah, I tried to add something to my playlist thingy and it didn't take. Will keep messing around with it.
  10. That link didn't load for me, so I deleted the gobbledygook at the end of the hyperlink and the page loaded. Here it is. http://www.loc.gov/jukebox/ Now, to figure out how to get around in there.
  11. Clarence Williams -- 1929 (chronological classics) All Music gives it their check mark. Samples are too enticing to resist. On order.
  12. Chuck didn't solicit these reviews. That seems to be an important point. What if there was a thread here about a particular album and some of the participants, noting that the album was not well-reviewed at amazon, agreed among themselves that it might be a fine idea to voice their opinions and write up some amazon reviews of their own? They enjoyed the music, afterall. Why not say so? Would that be an ethical issue? PS: the power company came by to fix some problems I was having at the house today. As the fellow left, he asked me -- twice -- to go to the power company website and add a comment about how "we not only found the problem, but fixed it." Now that's something different altogether.
  13. Cool! Kid Thomas, when left to his own devices, always had a saxophone in his band instead of a clarinet. Presence of clarinet instead of saxophone on a Kid Thomas album is due to the producer's ideas, not Mr. Valentine's. From the late 1950's on, the saxophonist was usually Emanuel Paul, with his old-fashioned style, big sound, and wide vibrato. Thanks Jeff. As always, great insights.
  14. Well, he was convicted multiple times of dealing. That's a little different than just possession. But yeah, whoever came up with a law that provides a life sentence for this must have been smoking something. Call the guvna!
  15. Does that mean that we can give 7 times the weight to positive reviews vs. negative ones?
  16. Kid Thomas Valentine and His Algiers Stompers -- "Same Old Soupbone!" Caught my eye for a couple of reasons: The band substitutes tenor sax for clarinet, giving the music what All Music describes as "a fuller sound," and they perform a few tunes here that are a bit off the beaten path for a New Orleans trad jazz band, such as "Oh Lady Be Good." On order as of a half hour ago, stolen from an amazon seller for ten bucks. Looking forward to it.
  17. I'm thinkin' when you guys start talking about your coffee and cream in the morning and hanging around the house naked all day, I'm outta here.
  18. If anyone wishes, they can add a comment to a reviewer's review.
  19. Thanks for the links. One of our guys talked to Azinger yesterday about this very thing. I'll have to go back and see what was said. I'd only note that this sort of thing is not uncommon in sports. Golf -- the gentleman's game -- maybe less so. But you often hear athletes say that they are good buddies with their opponents off the field. A brotherhood, even. Yet on the field, they are enemies. However Seve was regarded among his peers on and off the golf course, as Asinger said in one of the articles you linked: But in the end, as with any profession, it's not unusual for accomplished athletes to be seen as assholes by at least a some of the folks they defeated.
  20. Nice account here of the Rays' Brandon Guyer hitting a home run in his first major league at-bat in Baltimore last night. His wife was rushing to the game from her gig as a sports anchor in DC and was in the parking lot listening to the game on the radio when he came to the plate. Bullpen traded some balls to get the HR ball back from a Durham fan who snagged it.
  21. Sad news. Just 54 years old, too. Seems to have been universally liked and admired in the golf world.
  22. thanks for posting that link. Wonderful.
