  1. The Birdland material with Navarro is very nice as is the 1949 Carnegie Hall Concert. But it's hard to choose as most Parker is pretty breathtaking
  2. For the record IE8 worked fine for me from the start.
  3. Miles Davis and John Coltrane Live in New York. Bandstand. Not quite what is says on the label but nice anyway.
  4. Now there'e a video I'd like to own. Excellent but ends far too early. Thanks for posting the link.
  5. I'll own up to not being that much of a fan of jazz on dvd. But I do have the Lovano nonet and that's very good and I can add to the recommendations. There's a nice Brad Mehldau too which I dig into occasionally, I'm trying hard to like the guy more. I've sampled a lot of the Jazz Icons through friends and there's a lot of good stuff there but I can't say that I've been encouraged to buy. I've just borrowed the Coltrane and I have that to play and I'm really looking forward to that.
  6. Art Blakey; Au Theatre des Champs Elysees. Rca Jazz Masters (France)
  7. John Lewis; Improvised Meditations & Excursions. Atlantic
  8. A favourite of mine and a significant influence on my listening.
  9. Yes, great news.
  10. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Jim. Have a great day.
  11. Dazzling!!! Looks good, great stuff, thanks Jim.
  12. I've not bought any vinyl for years. The last one was more than ten years ago when I bought a copy of Steve Reid's Odyssey of The Oblong Square (still sealed) for a very good price. I'd still be tempted if I saw something I really wanted but like others here I have more than enough to keep me going. In fact I'm trying hard via ebay to get the vinyl collection down to essentials.
  13. Complete Charles Mingus on Debut. An embarrassment of riches.
  14. Apologies Shrdlu, please don't feel insulted, no offence intended. After 'trane it seemed to become de rigueur for sax players to double on soprano. Not a good always a good idea.
  15. The solo on "Poinciana" is very listenable. I can take or leave the others soprano tracks by Rollins. But then I'm not a big fan of the soprano.
  16. My views exactly Brownie.
  17. Harold Mabern; Rakin' and Scrapin'. OJC/Prestige earlier on Red Garland; Revisited;. Prestige (Fantasy)
  18. I don't know but I do know that you need both the original and the expanded version.
  19. I'm perfectly happy with mine.
  20. Must be all over the charity shops in the UK... I don't think this title would ever appear in the charity shops - I'd faint if I ever saw one there in good nick. They would be more likely to filter it out and ebay it. For sure, that is what Oxfam is doing these days ! I've always ffound this set rather unsatusfying. Sounds to me like it was thrown together on the day (it probably was).
  21. Nice find. I last saw a 10" of this back around 1957. Front cover was torn halway across. Gave it a spin in the shop listening booth and, as a teenager, hated it. I didn't hear it again until the cd issue and I'm more toleratnt of it now!
  22. Happy birthday ghost! Have a great day.
  23. I pulled this one out the other day for the first time in years. I never warmed to it but this time round I liked it much more than I expected. For the most part I found the arrangements (uncredited on my Fench vinyl) quite apt, just a couple of spots were I was put off by fluttering flutes and solo oboe.
  24. Now that's a rarity (and a very good album, too!) I'm afraid I only have an audio tape of a friend's copy. I think I recall a cd issue with an extra track. Agreed a very nice album, nice choice of tunes and attractive arrangements.
