  1. Have a very happy birthday Nate.
  2. I have to say I like this set, it's nicely loose, (I have the DIW 4cd set). The shortcomings, if indeed there are any, are very minor imo. All pianists are in good form as are the horn players. Cherry scrabbles around a bit but then he often does.
  3. George Russell in KC. Great from start to finish. It doesn't come much better than this.
  4. Courtesy of a friend I borrowed the Jazz Icons John Coltrane dvd. European tv broadcasts from 1960, 61 and 65. Very good audio and picture quality. Definitely recommended.
  5. Happy birthday Marty, you are catching me up rapidly. Looking at the frost outside I'd like to be in Florida right now. Perhaps see you there one day.
  6. A favourite of mine. Sorry to hear about his stroke but good news he's still active. A well deserved tribute.
  7. I'll recommned Kenny Werner too. Most of his trio cds have some sparkling piano.
  8. Really? All previous visits to that store and Aldi have resulted in me coming out with absolutely nothing worth buying. I'll take a look.. Strange! I can usually find something worth buying in Lidl.
  9. In addition to the above I'd say that Claude williamson's Bethlehem/Capitol trio dates are well worth a listen. For something more modern what about Myra Melford's recordings on Enemy.
  10. I think mne was okay. Pressing quality could be variable on these issues though.
  11. When I started buying in the mid-fifties records produced in the UK cost between 30 shillings and just over 2 pounds in the currency of the day. Most US jazz appeared on The London (Atlantic and others)and Vogue (Pacific Jazz and Contemporary) labels at around 32 shillings and if I remember correctly Esquire which issued Prestige was a little more expensive. The most expensive was Columbia's Clef series at just over £2.00. Imports were hard to get then due to import/currency restictions but they were around 45 shillings. 30 shillings = £1.50. Great days of discovery!
  12. I remember her particularly from Spun and as the voice of Luanne. Whatever the circumstances it's a tragedy.
  13. And probably she's right, ain't she? Kind of in the same boat here... if I don't explicitly ask for something, I won't get any music, and this year I didn't ask for anything... but getting music at any other time than x-mas or birthday (and I assume a gift on Dec. 23rd isn't an x-mas gift? Or just a "sort of"?) is quite impossible to imagine... You are probably right, but I can always do with another one or two.
  14. Belated birthday greetings Aloc. I hope you had a great day>
  15. Yes, a very merry Christmas to everyone on the board. Have a great time one and all.
  16. Fortunate and very nice. Unfortunately I never get music - my wife says I have enough.

    Car speakers

Some years ago one of my speakers began to buzz. The cure was to tip out the accumulation of debris inside. Though I guess in view of the age of yours it's more likely yours are at the end of their life.
  18. I like trains. Despite being in the UK I have a thing for American trains. I have some very nice HO models packed away. When in the US I love watching trains. Waiting at grade crossings never bothers me.
  19. Autumn In New York by David Murray from Seasons (Pow Wow). Has a typical Murray tango feel. However all the pieces from this cd are splendid. September In The Rain and Let It Snow(topical in the UK at the moment) sre great also.
  20. Wow, what great win for Pompey. I can hear the roar from my house!
  21. Like Brad I like soul jazz but somehow Braith doesn't do too much for me. I'm not parting with the Blue Notes though.
  22. I have these doubles, excellent pressings. I somehow missed the 10 cd set. But I do have most of CBs music on a mish mash of albums on various issues as well as a couple of cds. I could do with a nice set but I would want the alternates. Yes, those came out as Emarcy 2LP sets I think, imported here from the US. I bought one of them from Mole Jazz's deletion rack 'back in the day'. Good sound, I agree. I'm pretty sure mine came from Mole too.

  24. I agree about the Massey Hall concert. The edition without the overdubs sounds far better.
