  1. One from the collection I'd overlooked for a long time. David Murray, Arthur Blythe, Olu Dara.
  2. UK Egmont budget issue
  3. I have four Egmont albums. I can remember where I bought them and the amazement at finding them in a local tobacconist/newsagent at 10 shillings each. Needless to say I bought all four. A stunning bargain at the time for some pretty decent music.
  4. I have the same pressing. It wont be on my desert island either.
  5. Inspired by another thread. Nice coupling of Taylor's Tenors and Taylor's Wailers
  6. Fabulous music, some of the most exciting piano jazz on record.
  7. It's been well received this side of the pond.
  8. Have a great birthday!
  9. Bud's "It Never Entered My Mind" is astonishing. For me it's one of the most moving jazz performances I know.
  10. I sold my Nommo. Sadly, with overflowing shelves some things had to go. I still have the Baystate, Denons an Horo issues which at the time seemed to be sufficeint. Harper has THE SOUND. Luckily was able to get a his Japanese vinyl when they came out.
  11. I'd love to have the extra live tracks but I have the Mosaic and Legacy cd. Can't really justify the expense.
  12. I have a Japanese Epic cd and I'm giving it a spin now. It's not my first choice of Fuller's recordings but a very pleasant listen.
  13. I have this Baystate lp, plus bith Volumes of Live In Tokyo by this group. Exciting music but probably best heard live. Woiuld have loved to have caught this group live.
  14. You never heard Tony Williams, Bill? Or Elvin at a distance of less than 10 feet (I did ....once !) My worst loud drummer experience was Bill Evans with Philly Joe Jones and Lee Konitz at the Fairfeld Hall IIRC. Jones was all you could hear for the most part.
  15. Have a great day!

    Joe Farrell

    Oh dear, forgot about Lennies.

    Joe Farrell

Although I enjoy his RTF recordings it's the Blue Notes for me. After these the CTIs never really made it for me. I did see Farrell with RTF and the with the Elvin Jones Trio, both memorable gigs.
  18. King Records pressing
  19. Happy Birthday Jon
  20. Back to the question, I have the Herbie Mann and that sounds okay to my old ears and modest equipment. I've heard of a faulty disc in the Red Garland set but soundwise it was okay.
  21. Sad news indeed. I saw him at a venue near Croydon IIRC Bill. Stitt was nearing the end and wasn't looking so good but they played really well.
  22. Saw JJ and Kai back in the late 50s on a UK tour. Front row seats, what a sound those guys made. Next saw Kai in London with the Giants of Jazz. We were sitting in a pub waiting for the concert to start and in walked Kai, Blakey and IIRC Al Mckibbon for a between set break. They were in good spirits but as we couldn't afford to buy them a drink we left them undisturbed. Something I regret now.
