  3. I think it was Jeffcrom who played a Threadgill sextet a few days ago. That reminded me that I'd not played them for a while. Subject to Change was the first one to come to hand.
  4. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BROWNIE!

Some good points from Big Beat Steve and David, but back to the thread. I don't believe potential purchasers of the Gryce set have a lot to worry about. The Garland four cd set comes in a double four cd jewel box and while there are no notes you do get full lineups and recording dates. Sound seems fine to my old ears and on my modest system. If you need this music then this isn't a bad way to get it.
  6. Thanks for posting, scroll down to the Wayne Shorter version.
  7. I guess the people at London did a pre-Photoshop Photoshop of Monk with stock footage of Picadilly Circus at night. But I think it looks quite nice, you know? But why change it?
  8. I saw Naked City on two occasions. The first time they where an absolute knockout, By the second time the thrill had gone. Saw him much later in a show with Masada and Ba-koba(is that right?) plus another Zorn lineup. Can't say I enjoyed it that much. But I love his playing on the Sonny Clarke memorial album and the two cds I have where he plays with John Patton. And of course the two News For Lulu discs where he really brings these melodies to life.
  9. Another vote for the above title. Also enjoy this one. It's a nice one Tom but Different Level sounds so right to me that I don't feel the need to visit the others very often I can recommend this one too.
  10. No longer have it, but yes a disappointment overall. Good in parts.
  11. Reading the Gigi Gryce reissue post I had to think twice about whether Reminiscin' was in my collection. Pulled it out for a spin. Orch-tette, an impressive name for a quintet/sextet.

Nice set, I'd be on it like a shot but I have all the music.
  13. The Tethered Moon recordings are all very good, groaning excepted!
  14. What do you think of the sound of this series? My local specialist store has them all at about £5 each and I'm tempted.. If you're in London, would you mind letting me know which local specialist shop has these for a fiver? They're very tempting at that price... £8.00 in Rays Jazz Shop.
  15. Can't choose, I really like his Prestige recordings (for some reason I tend to enjoy the relaxed feel of these sessions) but then some of his very best playing is on BN so I wouldn't want to be without them. Unfortunately never got to see Jackie live. He wasn't that frequent a visitor to my part of the world.
  16. What do you think of the sound of this series? My local specialist store has them all at about £5 each and I'm tempted.. Bob, I have the Hubbard and Fuller discs. Sound is quite acceptable to my ears.
  17. Happy Birthday Chris, have a great day.
  18. On A Different Level is one my favourite cds. Gets a lot of plays. Brignola did a short tour of the UK some years back, on the night I saw him he played to a disappointingly small audience.
  19. Happy Birthday Leeway. Have a great day.
  20. Happy Birthday Bluerein
  21. Happy Birthday John
  22. Lester Bowie; The Great Pretender. ECM
