  1. I kind of dig A New Perspective. It took me a long time to get past the Star Trek voices, but Christo Redentor really moves me. That song and Coltrane's Alabama always get me. I can't imagine what they were smoking over at Blue Note when they decided to put this album out as an RVG. There would have been better Byrd albums to put out. I still haven't heard I'm Still Trying to Get Home. I don't feel much need to track it down, though. :rsmile: Peter, maybe A New Perspective would be a good album of the week. Nah, just kidding! :rsmile:
  2. I'm listening to it right now and it occurs to me this album may be a reason why BN created the Connoisseur series in the first place. It truly is uncommericial, but this is a special record. It's taken me a long time to warm up to it, but I find that I'm appreciating it more with each listen. I'm amazed the re-released it as a RVG. I find that I keep playing the individual tracks over and over again, because I get into different things with each listening. Sometimes a song ends, but I'm not ready for it to end. :rsmile:
  3. If it matters. I started this a couple weeks ago in another thread. CD of the week thread I made a post that the next person who posted could pick the first album. That person was couw, who picked the Donald Byrd and couw nominated Jazzmoose to pick the next album. Jazzmoose chose the All Seeing Eye and nominated Peter Johnson, etc... That's how we got here. I'm just saying this so I can still be nominated in the future. I would love the chance to pick something too. I have been starting the threads each week, just to help. I'd be happy to continue doing so. :rsmile:
  4. Thanks for the info about this. I had no idea any of this was going on. It's a very sad story. I hope they are successful in bringing this area back to life.
  5. So far, I've been acting as facilitator. Mostly in the sense of keeping the thread going every week, but if anybody wants to lead a discussion, that would be great. I really want to keep this going too! Where we stand is that Peter Johnson still has to pick an album for next week and he has nominated CJ Shearns to pick the album for the following week. CJ Shearns will then nominate the person to pick the album for the week after his pick. I'm waiting to review the album, just because there is so much to take in. I have been listening to it all week and really getting into it. :rsmile:
  6. That is the greatest review I've ever heard of this album. It describes it perfectly. Very insightful! If you can track down a version of the Beach Boys' lost Smile album, that would probably be the best introduction to Mr. Parks. I didn't like Song Cycle at first, but it grew on me. :rsmile:
  7. No, they edited out Coltrane's solos, so Kenny could do his magic.
  8. Welcome good doctor!
  9. It should be. I wish every day could be full of laughs. :rsmile:
  10. LOL You guys are killin' me
  11. Sorry all, I think these April Fool's Day fumes are getting to me. :rsmile: :rsmile: :rsmile:
  12. You should meet their friend. Brittany Dog. She's a cross between Brittany Spears and a dog.
  13. The cat is named James T. Cat. He is the offspring of Captain Kirk and a housecat. That was one crazy Star Trek episode.
  14. Well, April 1st is the day we honor the greatest soprano saxist EVER. Unfortunately I couldn't find any pictures of him in anyplace except Hell. The cat will be back on his global tour soon. :rsmile:
  15. Those wizards at Universal Vivendi have done it again!!
  16. Those are great links, SS! I miss that old Verve board and since I'm Kenny G's #1 fan, I think I'll have some fun over there.
  17. I'd love to make some sort of wrestling/boxing posters for some of the threads around here. It's better than pay-per-view.
  18. Oh yeah, they are Freshmen. Thanks for catching that. The BNBB was fun. :rsmile:
  19. I always liked how that Ray Price album "Night Life" was described as Countrypolitan. I love that term, it has such flair. :rsmile:
  20. I bought a Four Freshmen cd to see if I would want to buy the Freshmen Mosaic. It was okay, but I couldn't imagine 9 cds of the stuff. I think my ears would bleed by disc 7. Edited because of the plural men vs. singular man. :rsmile:
  21. Man, I love used vinyl. I spent the weekend listening to lps. They sound so good!
  22. This is an interesting thread. It really illustrates why I hate to recommend jazz recordings to people. My initial reaction was to dump the Shorter and keep the rest, but I realize that it is a personal decision. Not everyone loves the avant garde stuff as much as I do. If you think there is a 25% chance that you'll want to listen to any of these cds again, I'd keep the cd. You don't get that much for them when you sell them anyway, so I take the chance and hang on to some items. Good luck! :rsmile:
  23. I'm glad you got your copy and are enjoying it.. Thanks Randissimo! I brought my copy to work and I plan on listening to it today. I've really been enjoying it.
