You're welcome! I hope you know I would tell you if I didn't like it. I think it's a drag when people tell me they like my music when I know they don't. Fortunately, I really like it! I really hope you guys can find some good management and..... My wife is from Michigan. She keeps trying to get me to go out there for a visit. Maybe I can do that sometime and get to see you guys live. I don't imagine you'll be coming out to California anytime soon. I hope the Metheny comparison is okay with you. That really was my initial thought upon hearing the album. I have been having fun trying to learn some of the guitar parts. My hands (and brain) are tired. :rsmile:

Thanks for the suggestions, John! I am on emusic - I'll go ahead and download what you suggested. Thanks for the tips on what to avoid. I hate when I'm listening to a band for the first time and I've picked the wrong album to start with. It's hard to get past an initial bad impression. I'm with you as far as Spacemen 3 and their offspring. I think I gave up on Sonic Boom after the second E.A.R. album. I last saw him play live in 1994. That was a pretty interesting show. The Spiritualized stuff is good. I've got all their albums, but I don't listen to them that much. After the band broke up, I enjoyed the Spectrum stuff the most. :rsmile:
-
John, I can't believe that we have three Spacemen 3 fans here. Usually when I mention them, I get a blank look from people. They were a huge influence on me musically for a long time. Playing With Fire is really good. I think both of these albums are essential. As far as Yo La Tengo is concerned, I haven't really given them a chance. Any recommendations on where to start? :rsmile:

Jazzmoose, You're not alone. I can just imagine the Teletubbies marketing people dosing their research subjects to see how the program played. Sort of a CIA MK-ULTRA program for the kids. I worry about my son's brain turning to mush from watching the show. I think mine has already. :rsmile:

It's nice to hear someone mention Spacemen 3. Back in the late 80's, I listened to them and the band Loop all the time. The Perfect Prescription was my favorite album, though Playing With Fire was a close second. :rsmile:

Thanks for asking B3-er! I don't have the cd with me right now, but when I do I'll sit down and write out my impressions. What I will say now is how much I am impressed by your individual playing on the cd. One thing my favorite albums have in common is that I can lock into what each of the different musicians is playing and enjoy the album on different levels. I feel the same way about your cd. Sometimes I just get really into the drums, other times really into the organ, etc..., and overall it's a great listen when I just focus on the whole thing. As a guitarist, I'm really impressed by Joe's playing. I don't know if this would be an accurate statement, but the first impression I had was this album is how it would sound if someone like Pat Metheny was playing in a smoking organ trio. I bought the cd because I appreciated what you had done in creating this board and I the mp3 files sounded good on this site. I was very surprised by how much I liked the album. You know how it is when you hear your friend's band. Usually, you try to find something to like about it. In Organissimo's case, I would dig this record even if I didn't know (or like) you guys. It really smokes. I don't know why people are buying Soulive when they can be buying your cd. If Tomatbluenote checks into this board, I would HIGHLY recommend he order a copy and then sign you guys up. :rsmile:

Thanks for settling the fish issue for me. I had never known fishes to be acceptable. My son really enjoys the Elmo segment. I agree with you about the Wiggles. They're pretty scary. I want what they're drinking. My son is getting into the Disney stuff. He's really into Winnie the Pooh. My wife is always talking about how much she misses our son being an infant. I'm of the opposite view. I love watching him grow and become his own person. It's a kick. :rsmile:

Thanks for the warning, Scott. I have a 20 month old son. I'll make a point to avoid the Barney christmas video. Fortunately for me, he likes the Wiggles more than Barney, and they don't do jazz. Unfortunately for me, a steady diet of their songs haven't done much for my mental health. BTW - I watched the Teletubbies with him for the first time the other day. I was amazed at how fascinated he was by them. It was like he was stoned or something. Heck, I feel stoned everytime I watch that show. Another thing - I watched Sesame Street with him recently, and during the Elmo's World portion of the show, the topic of the day was "Fishes" - I always thought the plural of fish was fish. To make it worse, the singalong at the end was the word fishes repeated over and over again to the tune of Jingle Bells. You'd think the liberal studies colleges that the writers for Sesame Street went to would teach them proper english. Ah, the joys of parenting.....

Thanks B3-er! I'll try the new skin for a while. It's nice. I'll probably miss the ol' orange and purple. I've finally gotten used to it. The new one doesn't look as conspicuous when I'm at work. Thanks for the great bulletin board! :rsmile: :rsmile:

I've been watching it. I'd hate for that guy to be my dad. I love all those bike shows. My wife gets mad at me when I watch them because she knows they only make me want to get a motorcycle. It's fun to dream. :rsmile:

I just checked the Invision Power Board website (the people who make this software). I did a search in their forums, and it looks like they've been getting requests for an ignore feature, but they don't have one in place at this time. They do have an ignore Private Message feature, but not one for ignoring posts.

They're already putting out the sequel to the Mondavi sampler.

I'm also a fan of their other new sampler CD. :rsmile:

I picked up the BN sampler today. It helps to be drunk when listening to BN these days.

Most interesting/favorite James Spaulding context
AfricaBrass replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Artists
Cool thread, Rooster Ties! I went for Mobley's Slice Off the Top. I really like what he added to that session. Warning. Don't bring up Spaulding on the AAJ board around DEEP. I did, and we had a pretty funny exchange. My favorite DEEP quote about Spaulding: JAMES SPAULDING SHOULDN'T BE ALLOWED TO PLAY IN PUBLIC. (NO, STRIKE THAT) HE SHOULDN'T EVEN BE ALLOWED TO PRACTICE!! I feel vindicated (somewhat) that you started this thread. I've enjoyed Spaulding's Blue Note work in the past and I was afraid I was missing something. I've even got one of his MUSE albums. :rsmile: -
Geeze, the credits must be a mile long!!

Thanks, Rooster Ties. I was just curious about the order of the list. If I was Clarkson, I'd be really embarrassed by this. She seems to have some talent. Yeah, where is Simon? -
ANYBODY INTO MOUNTAIN BIKING?
AfricaBrass replied to randissimo's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I didn't take it as you putting down mountain biking. Cyclecross looks like an amazing sport. From the pictures I've seen in the past, I've come away highly impressed. I would love to be able to ride (or run) cyclecross. :rsmile: -

Wow! 96 people! That's pretty sad. I don't know where the original list came from, but it's kind of sad that Kelly Clarkson is the third from last on the list, just two above the vocal editor. Heck, the photographer is only number 21 on the list. I recognize a few names on the list. I think they might have given production credit to anyone famous who visited the studio. It's refreshing to see that it's all about the music. I posted a link to the adventures of Mixerman a while back and got no bites on it. If you're curious how they could end up with 96 people in the mix. Mixerman's tale is very telling (and very funny!). I'll post the link one more time. Trust me, it's really funny. Nominations for future "albums of the week"
AfricaBrass replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Album Of The Week
BeBop's posts have given me an idea. How about a survey of the history of jazz? Maybe some of the more mature listeners on this board would like to lead us through jazz's history. For example, the history of the tenor. Just as we have started an album of the week, maybe we could have another thread where we could spend a week on a different player or era. Example: Coleman Hawkins' Body and Soul. We could focus on Hawkins' work in the 30s. What made him such an important musician? Maybe we could base the study upon a cd that is easily available for everyone who is interested to follow along with. I didn't have the good fortune to grow up around jazz. I discovered it in my late teens. I'm always amazed when I speak to someone who grew up with the music and experienced it firsthand. There's so much passion in those people. I would love to hear the stories and really learn how to LISTEN to the music. I really hope someone runs with this idea. It could be really valuable for the younger listeners here. :rsmile: -
ANYBODY INTO MOUNTAIN BIKING?
AfricaBrass replied to randissimo's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
BeBop, You have my respect. I always wanted to try cyclecross. I even put some of those WTB drop bars on a mountain bike years ago. It was a truly scary thing. I thought I wasn't going to make it back. Those drop bars came off as soon as I made it home. I'm in Southern California and I never could find any good cyclecross events when I was riding a lot. JohnB, That sounds like a bachelor party I would really enjoy. Those ski lifts are like a Disneyland for bikers. They're a lot of fun. Impossible, Thanks! I remember as I was riding along with the deer, being aware of what an amazing thing it was. It's amazing, you can hop on your bike, ride for a while, and then find yourself in situations like this. I really miss riding daily. -
Let's put it this way. I had an epiphany yesterday. Life is too short to waste it getting annoyed by people I don't give a shit about. So unless you can enable an ignore function, I'll be at AAJ where the software keeps my blood pressure down. I'm trying to stay out of the political forums myself. I hope you will stick around here, Dan! :rsmile:

I think that's a really good one - has the attraction of being seminal, but not as 'here we go again' as 'Kind of Blue'! For that same reason, maybe Coltrane's Ascension would be worth a spin? I'd love to do Ascension or some Ornette Coleman.
