I bet Dubya couldn't tell Wynton from Satchmo...

I was told in no uncertain terms that Blue Note's refusal to reissue it right now is because of b. Tom said they are not going to redo the artwork. His comment was something like, "We don't mess with these classics". That said, it'll probably come out as "Lazy Afternoon" on Monday. Later, Kevin Now that's the Blue Note I can support. Thumbs up to Tom and SORRY for all the mean things I said and thought after the whole BNBB shutdown. Friends? Maybe we can get a rush job of the Gigolo or Blue and Sentimental since this last RVG batch was smaller than usual. I guy has got to try...

Man... I'm happy for you guys! That must have been nice meeting those guys. I'm glad to hear that McCoy is a class act. I've been a BIG fan of his since I got into jazz.

I hope you have a wonderful birthday!

I placed my order on the 14th and it is still processing. -
Wes, you've got to hear Ike's Blue and Sentimental. I LOVE that album. It has Ike, Grant Green, Paul Chambers, and Philly Joe Jones on it. This one should get the RVG treatment. It's a great album.

There is a great deal of radical country music out there, Che There is a new country movement, it is hard to access, since 'Nashvile' is the official face of 'country music'. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why so many people got upset with the chicks? Che. It's funny... I'd actually consider myself to be part of it. I haven't recorded in a long time, but I've been making cosmic cowboy music for many years. I play lap steel and I'm a b-bender maniac on my Telecaster. When I had my music at home, we had my wife's country section and my country section. There was NO overlap. I really enjoy that "No Depression" magazine, but my budget for new music is small, so I can't explore as much as I'd like.

Me too. B-) Me three! I LOVE that album. I think John Lennon played some of his most interesting guitar on her early albums. Yoko really was way ahead of her time.

YES! The Stanley Brothers

I wish I was more up on the alt-country stuff. One CD I have been enjoying is: The Sadies - Favorite Colours In places they sound like Clarence White era Byrds.

I was thinking... this thread has already been started... New members, please introduce yourself here. We'd love to get to know you. :rsmile:

I feel the same way... There's this nagging little thought that they will have sold all the sets out and only discover this when it's time to send MY set... But... I'll be positive instead and imaging that sweet little puppy in my hands.

Drat! My Farlow set is still processing... I want it now!
-
It sure does. We probably need to do something to keep the riffraff out. Let's ban everyone who's been here for more than a year... That would make things interesting.

What AfricaBrass said. Mmmm And your view is? Che. See the post above this one...

I think you're doing just fine. Haven't I made you feel welcome?

Heck... I'm intimidated by some of the newbies here. Even with thousands of posts, I know I'm still intimidated by some here with far less posts. There are some real sharp knives in this drawer. I'm really happy to see new members. This place really is like an extended family for me. I'd hate to see it get stagnate. Che, there have been numerous threads asking lurkers to post and join in. I don't see that on many other forums. If a person wants to post, there's plenty of threads to post in. There's very serious ones and then there are ones that are fun and silly. I can't even count how many times I've seen new members welcomed in threads they have posted in. I would just recommend that a person read this board a little and get the feel for it before they jump in. If you do this, you'll (hopefully) not make waves, but find your groove here. A hand grenade usually isn't the best way to announce your arrival. I'll admit, I have seen some newbies to this site get a bit nasty to long-time board members. I really wouldn't suggest that until you've been here a while. It's like trying to join a group of friends and insulting one. It's not a cool way to fit in. Che, why don't you start a new member thread or something like that. New members could use that to introduce themselves. Many of us, having been here for a while, know each other's stories, etc... It would be nice to get to know our new friends. Just be friendly, sincere, and don't ask about Norah Jones . You'll fit in. So.... WELCOME!

If you sign up again using the same e-mail address/account as before, emusic should still "remember" you and give you access to all your old downloads - which, of course, you can re-download for free, at the improved VBR rates. I recently re-downloaded a whole bunch of stuff that I had burned to CDR and deleted from my hard drive. But when I got my mp3 player I figured I'd get the files again to keep as mp3s. That would be GREAT!
-
That makes sense. If I sign up, I'll make sure I get all my downloads at the beginning of the month. I subscribed to emusic for a couple of years before they ended the unlimited downloads. I still haven't caught up on all that I downloaded. Unfortunately, it was before they went to the VBR downloads. It sure was hard to download anything right before they stopped the unlimited downloads. You're lucky to have finished that set.

Anyone see this Simpsons episode?
AfricaBrass replied to sal's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I know... I'm only up to Season 4 myself. I just haven't allocated the funds to buy Season 5 yet. I used to think money was the root of all evil, but not that my resources are more limited, I say bring it on. That's what I want. Money, money, money, I love money (Anchorman parody alert). -
I like this guy! I don't know if I would trust his weather forecast, but he is WACKY. "No phone calls yet."

Anyone see this Simpsons episode?

Season 8 had the episode: Bart After Dark - While Marge and Lisa are away cleaning up and oil spill, Bart becomes the right-hand man for the owner of a burlesque house. http://www.snpp.com/episodes/4F06.html I think that's the one... -
What happens to a member of a hair band when he goes bald? I guess it's headband time (like Mark Knopfler)?

Albums Which Had Modified Artwork or Title
AfricaBrass replied to Kevin Bresnahan's topic in Miscellaneous Music
That Negative album is pretty funny; mostly for the Casey Kasem rant. I remember when it was in the stores, but I didn't buy a copy. I ended up making one from my roomate later. Just in case there are people out there who haven't heard it, here is the transcript of Casey Kasem's rant: I don't blame him for not wanting this album re-released. -
No kidding! It's now being prominently featured on "classic rock" radio, ESPECIALLY Def Leppard (who I've hated with a vengeance since day one). Who made this decision? the right? Nah. If it was up to them, the only thing popular today would be prefabricated hip-pop, lip-synchers, alt-pop,..... And the only group we'd find in the jazz section would be Mannheim Steamroller. Good point! I'd rather see hair farmers on the top of the charts before I would choose to see pro tools pitch corrected "singers" like Ashlee Simpson. At least they play their own instruments.
