  1. You got that right!
  2. That's true. At least she's not listening to what most 12 year olds are...
  3. Well the thought of the Chicks warms even the coldest parts B-) Che. My wife likes them. It's not what I would choose to listen to, but they're good at what they do. My question is: They play country music. Even though I agree with their disdain for the boy king, I can't believe they were surprised by the backlash against them. It's too bad free speech isn't quite free.
  4. Too bad Dave Clark hasn't done much to help the legacy of the DC5. Apart from the one compilation on Hollywood records in the '90s, have there been any reissues? I liked Herman's Hermits when I was young. One of my early bands covered their tune, "No Milk Today." I actually enjoy the Bonzo Dog Band's audio catalog slightly more than Monty Python's. But... the Holy Grail album is really funny. I love when they're at the premiere and all the celebrities are crashing into each other as they arrive. What about the Rutles? The pre-Fab Four were GREAT. I love their movie OUCH! One of the first records I ever got was 'I'm into something good' by Hermans Hermits. Peter Noon was great. Che. I loved all those British Invasion bands. I kinda grew up with them, and then you invaded us with The Monkees, The Doors, The Beech Boys etc etc Che. I'm all for fair trade. One thing that is really interesting to me is the fact that the Beach Boys were the most popular band of 1966 in the UK, with their Pet Sounds album and Good Vibrations single. In America, the record was their LEAST successful to that point in time... Hendrix didn't get successful in the US until he got credibility in England and THEN appeared at Monterey.

  6. No shit. I actually listen to that record as though it weren't a comedy album. I really like it. Me too. I've had the LP for years; bought the CD when it came out and I have the DVD. That first album they did was brilliant. I bought the follow-up in the '90s and it didn't blow me away. Neil Innes also needs to be credited for his turn as Sir Robin's minstral in Monty Python and the Holy Grail: Brave Sir Robin Em Bravely bold Sir Robin B7 Em Rode forth from Camelot Em D G He was not afraid to die, oh brave Sir Robin G D Asus4 He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty D ways Em D G D B7 Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin Em He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed B7 Em into a pulp D Or to have his eyes gouged out and his elbows G broken D Asus4 To have his kneecaps split and his body burned D away Em D G And his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Sir D B7 Robin G D His head smashed in, and his heart cut out G D And his liver removed, and his bowels unplugged G D And his nostrils raped, and his bottom burned off G And his penis ... ******************************************************* Em B7 Em Brave Sir Robin ran away, B7 Em Bravely ran away, away G D Em When danger reared its ugly head, he bravely B7 turned his tail and fled G D Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about Em B7 And gallantly, he chickened out Em D Em D Bravely taking to his feet Em D Em D He beat a very brave retreat G Am D G B7 Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin ******************************************************* Em D He is packing it in and packing it up Em D And sneaking away and buggering up G D G D And chickening out and pissing off home, G D Em B7 Em Yes, bravely he is throwing in the sponge
  7. I haven't watched the new episodes in a while.... maybe I should.

  9. I agree with Claypone. I think this set is a little more accessible to the Miles newbie. Give them something to look forward to.
  10. If she was into Holdsworth or Mahavishnu... That would be great! Note to Lisa: Jazz fusion shouldn't be tepid.
  11. Yeah, but it's fused with elevator music. MUZAK!
  12. Okay, Birth of the Cool is a great album. I don't really hear it in her playing. My question is: Who picks the jazz for their jazz excursions. I love the Simpsons, but their view of jazz is lacking. I share Lisa's love of some jazz fusion. When I hear her listening to Miles' Jack Johnson or something of that sort, she'll be cool with me. Heck, if she could just play the Fat Albert theme song, I'd give her a .
  13. Me three! No wonder Bart thinks it sucks! Could you imagine Lisa getting into playing 45 minute versions of "My Favorite Things" ala Coltrane. I could just picture her being in the background of the whole episode blowing away... and she'd still be going as the credits rolled. Okay, maybe if she loses the Jimmy Garrison bass solo, she might be able to wrap it up as the show ends.
  14. The Beatles would be my #1. They've had more influence than any other British band. This thread makes me remember a time when British bands were on the cutting edge. I'm sure they still are, but it's hard to keep up with them in America now since nobody plays them here. I don't think it's fair to ask a general best British band. It might be more interesting to list them by decade, etc... So... the 60's, the Beatles ruled the world. Even though you may not like them, they did. They opened the floodgates for all the other great British bands that came to America. For me, the 70's were owned by Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. And then Punk came along; America may have had the Ramones, but to me the British owned Punk. The 80's are a bit vague for me. I tended to like the stuff that wasn't super popular. In my opinion, the greatest rock band today is Radiohead. I also LOVE Supergrass. I wish they were more successful.
  15. happy jazz aka instrumental pop. It doesn't make me happy. Me too. I came up with the term 19 years ago, it's strange how "they" came up with a term like smooth jazz to sell such watered down blah. They need more fiber, I think... That makes me happy!

  17. I missed that one! If Lisa actually played Coltrane, I'd faint.
  18. My son loves the old Tom and Jerry cartoons. I can't wait to show him Itchy and Scratchy when he's older. Speaking of jazz on the Simpsons, I can't stand the version of jazz that Lisa and Bleeding Gums Murphy play. It's the kind of stuff that people who like the Manhattan Transfer would like. Yuck.
  19. That's my story. I LOVED sports when I was growing up. Between the strikes and the obnoxious, selfish players I have lost my love many sports. Also, high ticket prices haven't given me much incentive to head to the stadium. It was also tough living in SoCal. I remember the Oakland fans being pissed when the Raiders went to LA and I understood there feelings. I stayed true to the Lambs (I mean the Rams) and eventually we got cheesed out of football altogether. Out of sight, out of mind I guess. I used to LOVE basketball when it was a team sport. My dad played in high school and college and taught to appreciate great team play. I've never had any use for Kobe Bryant (even before the doings of the last few years). The only team sport I really have any energy for is college football. These guys play with heart and aren't getting paid for it. I wonder if there's a connection.
  20. I LOVED "Cut the Mullet"; we used to sing that one all the time. My favorite part was: His ads at the end of every song were great too.
  21. Styx fans........ sheesh!!!! This will likely be the first Select I've pre-ordered as well!
  22. Sorry about the negative post, but that's my Wesley Willis story. We really used to enjoy his songs; pretty crazy stuff.
  23. That's great! That's how you know if you've found THE ONE.
  24. Thanks for any help you may have given in making this set happen, RT! This is going to be a great set.
