  1. Here's another one: There are supposed to me more shows from this run, but I don't have them. I'll make covers if I get them or if anyone wants ones for the other shows.
  2. You guys are making sweet covers! Here are a couple covers from shows available on easytree right now:
  3. I'm really excited about this one. I have all the Tyner Blue Note CDs that have previously been available, so I'm glad I won't have to spend so much to get the unavailable stuff.
  4. I'd like to see this documentary. I have a few of their albums. I was a little young to go to Minutemen shows, but I saw my share of Firehose. I remember watching the Minutemen on the old IRS Cutting Edge TV show.
  5. I would have voted for Oblique if it was a choice. The Medina/Spiral Conn is a favorite also. I also enjoy the Hutcherson/Land album San Francisco. I like all the early Hutcherson Blue Notes. I lose interest in the seventies, though Knucklebean is good.
  6. That's what I'm talkin' bout! I know. I don't see the problem with using smilies and stuff to reply when words aren't really necessary. I just think they're a nice way to encourage a fellow poster. I gave up on trying to keep up on the post count game a long time ago.
  7. Great idea! I used to make trips up there from Southern California partially to go record shopping. Thanks!
  8. I LOVED his books when I was young. This is a real shame. I hope he's in a better place now.
  9. Thanks gslade! I have found a couple Towers around here, but the jazz sections aren't what they used to be.
  10. I'm new to this area (I'm in Roseville) and I would LOVE any recommendations for good record/cd stores. I found one by my house called Dimples that has a decent selection of used CDs (quantity over quality unfortunately). I had so many good places to shop where I used to live. I shouldn't have moved. Please help this cat if you will. Thanks in advance.
  11. Does it have the cool "bagpipe" guitars? Errr... it has cool "moe." guitars. B-) You've piqued my curiosity...
  12. Does it have the cool "bagpipe" guitars?
  13. I'm with you Ray and Lon! The south isn't the only colorful place anymore. You see that same crap in California. I also agree that no one who would have bought this reissue is going to be so stupid to be offended by the title. If he was anti-war, Sims missed a golden opportunity to share his feelings with the reissue of this album. All he had to do was dedicate it to the people of Basra to make a statement
  14. I loved the Alarm. In fact, my first CD was an Alarm album. Declaration was a classic in my book. I thought Strength was pretty good too. I remember when they played a free concert at UCLA in '86 with a another favorite band of mine, The Long Ryders. I remember seeing Big Country after their second album came out. That was a good show.
  15. I hope you have a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
  16. If I recall correctly, you are a damn good designer (I think you posted some covers and stuff before around here). Do you have any homemade stuff you can show off? I really (!) liked your stuff (gosh, I hope it was you, but my memory isn't THAT bad yet, ... I hope). Cheers! Thanks Deus! Actually, I have tons of live shows/boots, but I haven't bothered with making nice covers for them. I did for some Grateful Dead shows and I made one for the mp3s off of the Jason Moran site a couple years ago, but my wife gave me such a hard time about wasting ink, I didn't bother with any more. Maybe I'll start making some. I've got some good stuff of off easytree lately and I might join you in the fun.
  17. Nice covers!!! I should do this with my live shows and boots...
  18. That's what I'd do.
  19. I know that cover.... NASTY!!!
  20. Those Prestige twofers were a godsend to me when I was getting into jazz. They were so cheap. I was turned on to a lot of great music with those albums; same with the Blue Note double albums from the seventies. I used to buy all these things for under $5 apiece, usually less.
  21. For Kessel, I'd say to check out any of his recordings for Contemporary from the fifties and also look for those Poll Winners albums from the same period. There are a bunch of OJC's of this material. His album, Feeling Free, from 1969 had Bobby Hutcherson and Elvin Jones on it. He also appeared on a lot of albums as a sideman. I'd investigate those also. Allmusic.com has a list (under the Credits tab) of albums he appeared on. I wouldn't be surprised if that list is far from complete.
  22. Yeah, I dig Flip too. I bought the Mosaic set right before they were gone... If you can find the Verve compilation, you'll get a great sample of his Verve work: Flip Wails: The Best of the Verve Years The Verve album he released, before his passing, was good. He sure didn't sound like he was 85 years old. Swing Is the Thing!
  23. The Jazztet is really GOOD. I'd start saving now, Al. I'll be listening to this show when it appears in the archives.
