  1. Happy Birthday!
  2. Every day, I shoot hoops for about 40 minutes, then I run lines until I'm winded, then I complete the workout by doing abdominal crunches (1 set of 80, then one set of 40) and push ups (20, then 10). I've been at this for about 8 months, and it only takes about an hour total each day. The most difficult thing has been trying to increase the number of push ups, they kick my ass every day. I may buy a pull up bar and try incorporating that into the workout. I doubt I can do 5! I was motivated to do this when I put on a little weight a while back which caused my back and knees to hurt. Freaked me out.
  3. Happy Birthday!
  4. Happy Birthday!
  5. About 12 years ago I bought an Impulse compilation with "Stolen Moments" on it. It was something in the range of my 4th jazz cd ever, but the song is still a favorite to this day. Later found the album on vinyl in excellent condition. I gotta hear some of these other Oliver Nelson albums. The only other ones I have are "Skull Session" and an emusic cdr or two. Sleeping.
  6. I'm hoping this is waiting for me at home in today's mail!

  8. I have a compact Altec Lansing inMotion portable stereo that I have had for a year and been very satisfied with. It is suprisingly loud, but doesn't handle booming bass all that well (regular bass just fine). I imagine their larger units are probably just as good. The one I have also came with a set of international plug adaptors, such that I was able to have tunes in my hotel room in Amsterdam. Pretty cool.
  9. Other favorite funk bands: Kool & The Gang The Nite-Liters JD & The Evil's Dynamite Band Mickey & The Soul Generation The Whitefield Brothers Gotta seek out Defunkt, thanks PQ!
  10. Happy Birthday!
  11. Blindfold Test #30 Compiled by Catesta Thanks a lot Catesta for the fine selection of tunes, I particularly enjoy tracks 5 & 6. I've decided to make this my last BFT (at least for a while), seeing as I have greedily participated in the first 30. I ought to leave room for others to participate in this cool tradition. As always, if anyone would like a copy of any of the BFTs past, just send me a PM. 1. Reminds me of the Tad Dameron/Fats Navarro BN set. Happiness-inducing. 2. This is a standard whose name escapes me. Gerry Mulligan & Paul Desmond come to mind. Great stuff. 3. Anyone else get up and dance around the room to this one? 4. Grant Green with Yusef Lateef? 5. Lee Morgan? 6. Stanley Turrentine? 7. Joe Sample? 8. Jimmy Giuffre? 9. Monk? 10. My least favorite on the disc, but not bad. Sonny Rollins? 11. Lou Donaldson? 12. Wynton Kelly? 13. Benny Goodman? I briefly mistook this for the same tune as #2, and had to play them a few times against each other. 14. Lionel Hampton? 15. Mary Lou Williams? 16. Again, this sounds Dameronian to me. Or Mingus maybe? Thanks again Catesta!

  13. I have it, it's pretty cool. There's three or four remixes, but otherwise it's a best-of compilation.
  14. Nope.
  15. It's a Mac, I don't have word. To be honest, I cut and pasted it into Text Edit, and just hit print without even thinking about it and left the room. I came back to a book, and still had to put more paper on.
  16. Looks like I wasted 40 pieces of paper printing the entirety of the other thread. Thanks Medjuck!
  17. I really dig this one too. Especially "Ecaroh," "Horace-Scope," and "Nothing But The Soul." All eleven Horace Silver Blue Note albums I own are fantastic, and Paris Blues is good too.
  18. Sounds like I need to pick up Motherlode and Live At The Olympia!
  19. I was just playing the The JB's Funky Good Time 2cd Anthology today. I've got Black Caesar, In The Jungle Groove, There It Is, Hell, The Payback, Slaughter's Big Rip Off soundtrack...some of my favorite music. I also dig the the James Brown's Funky People compilations, all three that I have are excellent. Soul On Top is cool too. I even like the older JB from the "I Feel Good" era. Fred Wesley & The Horny Horns and Maceo Parker & All The King's Men funk it up too...every time I think I've heard it all from the JB universe I run across some other funky disc. What an artist! So far, I've got Sly Stone's Fresh, Small Talk, There's A Riot Goin' On, and Stand! Top notch funk, I need more. Funkadelic and Parliament carried the funk torch for a while...Bootsy! Here's a question for some of the other funkateers on board, who was funky in the 80s?
  20. Updated with sources:
  21. Nice hoaxy finish in the Angels/White Sox game. WTF?
  22. Disc received, listening now! Thanks!
