  1. The genres are CONSTANTLY wrong. Tons of my jazz discs come up "Easy Listening" or "Blues" or even "Electronica/Dance" like that one did for you, Marty. Nearly every 1970s Soul/R&B/Funk mp3 from eMusic is labeled "Hip Hop." I'm always like, "What kook labels these things?"
  2. Saints by a field goal! The news that Reggie Wayne was hobbled a bit at practice yesterday put me over the top.
  3. Order placed! The check is in the mail, Jim.
  4. Holy moly, just heard this one the other day at a friend's and immediately ordered from Dusty Groove. Sooooooo good.
  5. Great card trick...
  6. Damn right! He was also in Odell Brown and the Organizers. Which Eldee Young album is he on? MG I recall the JRM selling it in the mid 80's. I believe it was self-produced and a live recording(I have a foggy memory). Eldee's quartet also had Ari Brown in it. They used to play regularly at the Backroom on Rush St. I can't recall the drummer. I love this board for this sort of random reference. I have a 45 by Duke Payne called "The Bottom" which features some of his bagpipe stuff, and I have an Odell Brown & The Organizers joint, but never made the connection. I'd like to hear the Eldee Young...
  7. Spinning this fine funky album as I type. RIP.
  8. Sorry to hear it, Soul Stream. Stay strong. Having never had a meaningful relationship I haven't any wisdom to add.
  9. Following along and enjoying every entry, Alexander.
  10. Hehehe, I bought that old MCA box but I already had that lame compilation The Ultimate Experience. So I returned the packaged one to the store, and the manager gave me some grief before caving and giving me store credit for the unopened disc.
  11. Kiffin's a dirtbag. All his big talk when he took over at Tennessee, what a turncoat.
  12. It's good that McGwire came clean. It would be nice if MLB as a whole came clean. The cheating and steroid use were widespread enough for me to not care and not consider it cheating. The players were juiced, the ball was juiced, and the fans had a gas watching the ball fly out of the yard. I prefer to close that chapter on MLB and move on, and see no need to continually rake these guys across the coals as if there weren't a culture in MLB encouraging steroid use when it was prevalent. I'd let anyone with the numbers into the Hall Of Fame, no matter what. Pete Rose, in. Barry Bonds, in. Calling the players outright "cheaters" in the face of MLB turning a blind eye to steroids, owners turning a blind eye to it, clubhouses letting the "trainers" peddling steroids through their doors, managers acting like they didn't know what was going on, fans acting all surprised like they didn't know it was going on...it's bullshit. The players get scapegoated for this crap, and get their names tarnished, when MLB as a whole is to blame. The MLB Hall Of Fame isn't sacred, who knows what they turned a blind eye to prior to the "steroid era." In fact, the media as a whole used to protect the images of ballplayers and managers no matter what sort of crap they did or said.
  13. Valleys Of Neptune is rising!
  14. Picked 3 of 4 games, missing only Arizona over Green Bay and the Packers had a chance to win. Condolences, Conn!
  15. No one else is going to post picks?

  17. Suspended indefinitely without pay, and at Agent Zero's $147k per game that's going to add up in a hurry. Apparently all that money didn't buy Gilbert an ounce of good sense.
  18. Oh wait, that's far too coherent.
  19. Listening to Willie Mitchell's cover of "Groovin'" by The Rascals and a bunch of Hi Records stuff in his honor. RIP.
  20. Oddly enough, in one instance I digitized an LP, burned it to CD, then inserted the CD at a later date and the information populated incorrectly. This supports Bev's notion that CDDB (Compact Disc Data Base) does so by number of tracks + approximate timings. I don't recall which albums were involved.
  21. ...and I've rarely seen a worse call at a pivotal moment than that 15-yard personal foul to all but end LSU's hopes. Gee zebra, thanks for totally deciding the outcome.
  22. On another forum the rating system involved not only a point system, but those with more points more substantially impacted those with less. And, with each rating, the user could post a small comment just below each post but still contained in it and not an actual reply to the thread. High "rep" levels permitted one to see different parts of the forum those with lower rep could not. It was really ugly, a flame fest.
  23. Thanks for the tip, Norm. For the early Marley, I have a fantastic 2CD set on Charly called Roots Of A Legend which has almost all my favorite recordings I've heard by him ("Rainbow Country," "Sun Is Shining," "Soul Shakedown Party," "Duppy Conqueror," "African Herbsman," "Mr. Brown," tons more). There's also several comps worth seeking out, Simmer Down At Studio One, Greatest Hits At Studio One, and The Wailers At Studio One which have some fun odds and ends from back then.
  24. I love the early Marley more than the Tuff Gong Marley. Haven't heard any of the Deluxe Edition reissues, I'll have to look into those. Since I own all the Tuff Gongs and the Songs Of Freedom set, it would cost a pretty penny to replace them all. Dang. Good excuse to give it all a listen again.
