Hence SS1's tears. In other news, the Bengals reverted to their former selves, the Bungles, to allow the Raiders to get a win. Gradkowski and Janikowski combined for the all-Pollack Oakland attack. Fear the Raiderkowskis!

ipods: is there something a non-hifi person can use
Noj replied to The Magnificent Goldberg's topic in Audio Talk
I don't think so, Jim. I've wanted my iPod to do that for a while. Maybe it will happen with one of the software upgrades. -
UConn had that defensive back get murdered earlier this year. Oregon/Arizona was an epic game. Brutal loss for the Wildcats, they had a two possession lead in the 4th quarter.

Hahaha, nearly everyone picked exactly the same games this week. Only SS1 and Edward are contrary on a few games.

Just realized I have three Spoon LPs and an EP, and a Shins album. When did that happen? I'm going to put them on my iPod and check them out. -

Devices will only be visible if you have an iPod hooked up or a CD in the computer. Yes. When you put a CD in, and click on it in the left hand column so that you're viewing all the tracks on the CD, then and only then will those two buttons be visible. It should be the very top of the left hand column. LIBRARY in caps, then Music right beneath it. When you change it to a list, look along the top of the list and you'll see a variety of ways to sort the list. Sort them by clicking on any one of the options (Name, Time, Artist, Album, Genre). It does have an annoying tendency to try to redirect you to the iTunes store. I avoid this by not clicking on the iTunes Store area or the Genius function, which is supposed to operate like Pandora. -

Joe--If your iPod is set to sync its library with iTunes, then whatever you remove from iTunes will be removed from your iPod the next time you hook it up. That's why I keep it on manual. I'll just manually drag from my external hard drives when I need to start a new iPod. I don't need iTunes to keep it all together. I preserve all my settings and labels using a program called iPod Access, which allows me to back up everything on the iPod to an external. I can also pull whatever track I want off the iPod with that program and burn CDs with it. It's an inexpensive but very handy program that bypasses that lame crap they programmed into the iPod to prevent sharing. -
American holiday involving stuffed turkey and American football. It is not OK to talk Christmas until after it's over.

It's difficult to nail down exactly what you're looking for, considering the different sounds of U2, REM, and The Police/Sting. I like a wide variety of rock, but lyrics are not my biggest concern. The Clash come to mind. I'd suggest Radiohead but the singer's voice is a bit of an acquired taste. Norm mentioned Beck, but his lyrics are purposely silly. Same with Primus and all of Les Claypool's projects, the lyrics are just sort of fun and limerick-ish, nothing serious (Les worked with Stuart Copeland on Oysterhead, but that really comes off as a Claypool project). Wilco is a great suggestion. Rage Against The Machine might work, but they're probably too close to rap for your tastes even though the guitar and drum work are top notch. Other suggestions: Calexico The White Stripes (maybe too whitewashed bluesy for you) Porcupine Tree Arcade Fire Talking Heads Tortoise Whitest Boy Alive Jack Johnson (too corny?) Mazzy Star Dangermouse & Sparklehorse - Dark Night Of The Soul (interesting project featuring a bunch of different artists) Sufjan Stevens (check out Illinoise, some really nice folksy tunes) Some stuff to explore, at least. Might be fun to hear why you like or dislike any number of them. -

To import using iTunes, insert the CD into the disc drive. In iTunes the CD will appear in the left hand column under Devices. Click on the CD title in the left hand column to display its contents in the window. There are two buttons in the lower right--one to Import, and the other for Import Settings. Imported files will be displayed in the Music area under Library in the left hand column. The folders will automatically be created inside a folder called iTunes Music Library, which you should be able to locate with a quick search if you can't find it in your computer's menu. Within the iTunes Music Library folder they will be listed under Artist, with subdivisions for Album. -
No argument from me. He's got filthy stuff. Say man, you got a joint? No, not on me, man. Be a lot cooler if you did.

I loved Dahl's books when I was a kid. I read the following: The Witches James and the Giant Peach Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator Danny, the Champion of the World Matilda Didn't know there were so many more. Funny, fun stories.

From reports I read, Garcia requested to be let go and the Raiders obliged. I wish they had him too, I thought it was a perfect fit. He can make plays on the move. In this article, Garcia discusses Russell and the losing culture that currently infests the Raiders organization. The team has no fire or belief in itself whatsoever. So clear up the QB it's a case of guys just showing up to get paid and not playing to win. The "Commitment To Excellence" has become a "Commitment To Mediocrity." Things will need to shake up, top to bottom--and that won't happen until Al Davis is no longer in charge. He has poisoned his own team and created a culture of losing that he can't correct. Gotta feel sorry for a winner like Richard Seymour to be sent to NFL purgatory by the Pats. He tried to rally the troops but hasn't been heard from for a minute. I imagine he's figured out he can't right the ship himself.

Who? Oh, Mr. "47.7 Passer Rating." I hope he enjoys his money, he sure hasn't earned it. What a loser.

Interesting that I have the weekly victories with the highest and lowest total. vajerzy has picked correctly in double digits for 8/10 weeks, damn impressive. SS1 7/10 weeks. Despite double digits only 4/10 weeks, I'm two up on Van B who has 5/10 and more consistent numbers overall. SS1 and Van B are the only two players to not have a single week with less than 8 correct. Everybody's in the hunt!

The bigger mistake was calling the timeout on 1st down after the kickoff. How were they possibly not ready to go? That not only would have enabled them to challenge the spot, but it might have let the clock run long enough to be under 2 minutes in which case the play would have been reviewed anyway. I think the spot was home cookin', and technically if that guy hauls in the pass cleanly it's a first down. Everyone I was with was saying it was an arrogant call, and likened it to Pete Carroll's tendencies with the USC Trojans. Teddy Bruschi and Hitman Harrison have both said they would have felt disrespected as defensive players that their coach wouldn't trust them to stop the Colts from driving the field. Then again, weren't they both on that team that couldn't stop the Giants from ruining the Pats' perfect season?
-
The Pats got hosed on that 4th down spot. Even after he gathered the ball he was over the first down marker. Couldn't have happened to a nicer team.

I love Cosby's routine in Himself, quotes of which are regular parts of the household vernacular ("I don't know/That's brain damage!"), and this clip is good re-enactment and self-deprecating humor. It's a bummer when personal interaction with a celebrity doesn't line up with the on stage persona. I hear Chevy Chase is a major asshole, but I still laugh myself silly watching his SNL routines/Caddy Shack/Fletch/etc.

I'm more familiar with Doggett's 1969 version of "Honky Tonk" on King. I love music of this variety, it's all about the mean, funky groove. I only know Butler from his Legends Of Acid Jazz comp on Prestige, cool to know he helped make jams like this one.
