Gotta save something for the rest of you guys...

Man, I almost wish I hadn't seen this thread today... 55 CD's for me... ...in addition to the Coltrane and Evans sets. I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to get so much music I didn't have for such a ridiculous price. All of the discs I bought, aside from the box sets, are Limited Editions or K2's. A few of the K2's are upgrades, but the vast majority of them I've never had in my collection. I almost didn't pick up the box sets, but I just know that if I hadn't, I would end up regretting it down the road. Here's the list of what I picked up: Cannonball Adderley/Milt Jackson - Things Are Getting Better Gene Ammons - Boss Tenor Chet Baker - Chet Chet Baker - Chet Baker Sings-It Could Happen To You Chet Baker - In New York Chet Baker - Plays the Best of Lerner & Loewe Walter Bishop, Jr. Trio - The Walter Bishop, Jr. Trio Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - Caravan Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - Ugetsu Jaki Byard - Freedom Together Charlie Byrd - Bossa Nova Pelos Passaros Teddy Charles - New Directions Teddy Charles - Teddy Charles & Prestige Jazz Al Cohn - Broadway John Coltrane - Coltrane John Coltrane - Traneing In Ted Curson - Ted Curson Plays Fire Down Below Miles Davis - Bag's Groove Miles Davis - Collectors' Items Miles Davis All Stars - Walkin' Walt Dickerson - A Sense Of Direction Eric Dolphy - Eric Dolphy at the Five Spot, Vol. 1 Kenny Dorham - Quiet Kenny Kenny Drew - Kenny Drew Trio Bill Evans - At Shelly's Manne-Hole Bill Evans - Everyone Digs Bill Evans Bill Evans Trio - Explorations Red Garland - Red Garland's Piano Red Garland Quintet - All Mornin' Long Benny Golson - Stockholm Sojourn Elmo Hope - Hope Meets Foster Elmo Hope - Hope-full Milt Jackson Quartet - The Milt Jackson Quartet The Jones Boys - The Jones Boys Barney Kessel Quartet - The Artistry of Barney Kessel Charles McPherson - From This Moment On! Modern Jazz Quartet - Concorde Modern Jazz Quartet - Django Thelonious Monk - Misterioso Thelonious Monk - Plays Duke Ellington Thelonious Monk - Thelonious Himself Thelonious Monk Trio - Thelonious Monk Trio Thelonious Monk/John Coltrane - Monk & Coltrane Wes Montgomery - Incredible Jazz Guitar Art Pepper - Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section Art Pepper - Smack Up Freddie Redd Trio - San Francisco Suite Sonny Rollins - Plus 4 Sonny Rollins - Sonny Rollins with the Modern Jazz Quartet Sonny Rollins - The Sound of Sonny Sonny Rollins - Worktime Sonny Rollins Quartet - Tenor Madness Various Artists - The Poll Winners Randy Weston Trio - Get Happy Jimmy Woods - Awakening! Whew!

Anyone looking forward to this one as much as me? Man...their last two albums have been really great. Listening to the new stuff on their website (here) and after hearing the first 2 tracks...wow. This stuff sounds really, really gooooood... Pretty stripped down compared to the last few, without O'Rourke on board. Can't wait to get this one next month!

Doors Manager Danny Sugerman Dead at 50
street singer replied to 7/4's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
This is available from yourmusic.com for $34.93. I just ordered a copy for myself! -
What vinyl are you spinning right now??
street singer replied to wolff's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Was: Kenny Drew - 'Undercurrent' (Classic Records Reissue) Now: Walt Dickerson - 'To My Queen' (Reissue) -
Absolutely. The box set prices are just ridiculous... I mean, less than $40 for the Miles' 'Seven Steps to Heaven' and Sonny Rollins' 'Complete Prestige' set? Wow. Don't forget about the non-jazz stuff, either. The Complete Hank Williams (10 CDs) for under $50. The Complete Doors Studio Recordings (7 CDs) for under $35. The Complete Original Black Sabbath (8 CDs/1 DVD) for under $40. Velvet Underground - 'Peel Slowly and See' (5 CDs) for under $25. Wooooow... I honestly don't know what to buy first.

WD45, Try again. I just cancelled my subscription and rejoined, using the link provided previously in this discussion, and am now getting the 4.99 deal. Unbelievable. Ordered the Dylan SACD box and the 'Seven Steps to Heaven' box for $114.77. I have placed two prior orders with YourMusic.com with no problems whatsoever. If they can manage to ship these boxes at this price, I'll be floored...

I know there's a few fans of this band on here... They'll be on Letterman tomorrow night. I'll be watching!

Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?
street singer replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Tristano/Konitz/Marsh. Stunningly beautiful music... -
Northern Exposure - The Complete Second Season (wooohooo! Love this show!) Star Wars Trilogy Lord of the Rings: Return of the King - Deluxe Edition (I still have barely scratched the surface of the other two Deluxe Editions!)
-
While you're checking out all those cut-out Blue Notes...you might also do a search for the Jazz In Paris series, many of which have been reduced as low as $4.99! I grabbed quite a few of 'em myself...
-
Any opinions on the two Lee Morgan OJC's?
-
As is D. Gordon's 'Doin' Alright' D'oh! D'oh!
-
I've been very happy with my Jolida JD-100A tube CD player. Worthy of consideration, atleast. They're about $900 new, in the area of $600 used.

Well, that figures... I just ordered all of those last week, minus the Moody. Oh, well... I still got a good deal on 'em by ordering through the Universal Music Store on EBay. You should also pick up the Stitt and the Kirk (if you don't have this one in its previous incarnation...) - good, good stuff!

Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
street singer replied to John B's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Cool. Looking forward to hearing those extra tracks. This is my favorite Pavement album by far... Thanks for sharing the news! -
So which version of these albums is generally regarded as "the one" to get? Is it the Fuel version, as previously stated?

Took advantage of a "20% Off" sale at Half-Price Books today and picked up the following LP's: Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - 'Away We A-Go-Go' (Motown) - $4.78 Aretha Franklin - 'Soul Sister' (Columbia) - $4.80 Aretha Franklin - 'Soul '69' (Atlantic) - $3.20 Aretha Franklin - 'Aretha In Paris' (Atlantic) - $3.98 John Lennon/Yoko Ono - 'Double Fantasy' (Geffen) - $3.20 Doors - 'L.A. Woman' (Elektra) - $7.20 ***This record has the coolest cover - the picture of the band is printed on clear plastic, allowing the yellow inner sleeve to show through the cover) *** Mike Oldfield - 'Tubular Bells' (Virgin) - $1.58 *** I just couldn't pass this one up... Iron Butterfly - 'Live' (Atco) - $4.00 Stray Cats - 'Built For Speed' (EMI) - $3.18 Charley Pride - 'Country Charley Pride' (RCA) - $2.38 George Jones - 'My Favorites of Hank Williams' (Universal) - $2.38 No jazz, unfortunately, but some good stuff nonetheless... Anyone participating in this discussion like Wayne Hancock? Just saw him again last night...and was, again, absolutely floored. Incredible...

Quality vinyl brings a smile to my face
street singer replied to wolff's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Don't have much to offer in the way of great jazz records, as I've only recently begun my journey into the world of vinyl. What price would you be willing to part with the set for? PM me if interested... -

$40 for that box?! Wow... That's a helluva bargain! Any idea where I might find this for a decent price these days? Music Direct has it for $99. Think I can get it cheaper? I don't expect to find it for $40, but...
