the game was played with intensity so there's nothing to claim. it´s a pity that Italy scored their second goal so now they have something or someone to blame.... MCO

Eke, i can understand your rage but as a french maniac i want my team to win playing with passion and if possible playing well. it's true that this was the worst season of Raul and once again he was unable to conduct Spain to a respectable position on this Euro. i´m having the same feeling with Henry. he played nothing on WC2002 and he's not playing seriously on this Euro... i really think that Spain should review/limit their importation of foreign players. Italy and Germany are facing off serious problems with their national teams too. this was very similiar with France when they renewed Lemerre's contract before the WC2002 and after the disaster he was sacked. i think Saez should leave his job. Eke, i wish you better luck on WC2006!! Marcus

Marcus, just remember the French disaster at the 2002 World Cup when the team that won the 1998 Cup was out by the first round without having scored a single goal! As for Silvestre, he is not that bad a player but after helping the opposite teams score in each of the three first first matches he played, he should be out of the Bleus for the duration! And Santini has announced just before the start of Euro2004 that he would no longer be the team coach right after the French last match in the tournament. He will head for Tottenham next season. Santini is the latest in a succession of inept coaches. We have not had a decent coach since Michel Hidalgo. Aime Jaquet was just lucky to have the top players available. At least he made good use of them. Then Roger Lemerre was a disaster.

for me the best teams so far we´ll meet on Sunday. i´m soooo happy that Italy is out of the competition Tomasson's goal is the most beautiful of the tournament so far. he is a nice player who's gonna be qualified tomorrow? holland or germany? i don't think Latvia can reach the quarter-finals. i´m so pissed off against the french team... how can we play so bad on a major tournament!!???!!!!! what the hell is Silvestre doing on the french team?? is Santini stupid or what?? the players can't be tired as they're not running at all during the games. they are not playing with energy, professionalism and deserving to win the competition.... we are going to play against Greece and we can't say we'll win the game...DAMN!!! i hope the british team will knock-out the portuguese one and that tomorrow Italy will be sent back to home. allez les bleus Marcus

you are right Dan. i really like what the young lions did. i think they can play well, they have control of their instrument but they don't take risks. anyway, i really like to hear them playing. my major concern about them and their albums is that they are usually composed by original compositions and some well-known standards. great, i don't mind to hear My Funny Valentine one more time but my major problem is why they don't record tunes from other young lions?? a standard only becomes a standard if it´s played/recorded several times. a tune like Chan's Song IMHO could be a potential standard but how many recordings do you know of this song? even if i didn't liked Herbie's "The New Standards" album i should praise his attitude. picking one song from the Harper Brothers album, Remembrance could easily become a standard too. just my 2 cents Marcus Oliveira

Woody Shaw - Bemsha Swing

thanks to ejp626 for picking me one of my desert island discs: The Harper Brothers - Remembrance Live At The Village Vanguard the kind of jazz that i love most. i have all of their releases but this one is my favorite. among with the Harper brothers there is Stephen Scott (one of my favorite piano players), Justin Robinson on alto sax and Kiyoshi Kitagawa on bass. the highlights for me are the main title, a composition from Danny Harper in memory of their father, Hodge Podge, Kiss Me Right (a Horace Silver composition) and Keynote Doctrine. i wish they were still playing together and i hope you will enjoy as much as i do everytime i put this on the stereo. matchday 1 is over and i´m still recovering myself from that unexpected win against england. so far we had only poor games and i hope matchday 2 will bring us some attacking football. i think Portugal will beat Russia today (Mostovoi has been sent home) and Spain will beat Greece too. it would be fine if Greece ends on the 2nd place as they will face off the first of group B which probably will be my beloved team France... ALLEZ LES BLEUS, ALLEZ LES BLEUS, ALLEZ LES BLEUS !!!!!!!! Marcus

i´m on my fifth audition and enjoying it more & more let me share my ignorance now: 1) for me it seems Gillespie arranged by Lalo Schifrin. a nice one 2) i know Daniel loves the man a lot so i would say Hank Jones 3) this is very good! i don't have a clue about it but it´s very good 4) i´m so weak detecting piano players...but it's a nice tune 5) i need to have this!! 6) just ok for me 7) this sounds familiar to me specially the piano player but i can't narrow my choice. lovely tune 8) for me it's Denny Zeitlin. this song is one of my favorites ever!! not even Kenny G would ruin it... 9) this is amazing! 10) Hubert Laws? 11) i think i've heard this sometime and it's sooo good 12) my favorite of this BFT! dunno the singer but i need to have this and quickly! 13) Jamal? 14) Bud Shank? 15) now i feel the influence of RDK as i was expecting, it´s a lovely BFT and i would like to thank my man Daniel for his great job! i remember a friend of mine having her little sister diagnosed with this too. the major problem for her was on school and she lost 3 years (bad grades). a great school can be very helpful on a situation like that because sometimes they don't want to have any extra work. i´m sure you´ll do the right thing for your son and give him the set of drums, maybe the new Elvin Jones is him Marcus -

Prince, Monk & Miles are my heroes ever my father never enjoyed Miles work or albums but i felt in love instantly. Sketches of Spain is my first memory as my father is obsessed by Concierto de Aranjuez. another reason that i love Miles is because he loved Prince a lot and vice-versa can you imagine the world without KofB? ok, time for me to share my jazz ignorance Disc I: 1) normally i wouldn't like this one but surprisingly i did. the starting & ending are weird but the middle section is so nice. maybe because i wasn't expecting a straight-ahead jazz performance after listening the beginning but i've enjoyed a lot the bass player and his performance. a classic tune played on a different atmosphere i think. 2) i'm feeling that i´m on Kingston streets. not bad but just forgettable for me. 3) this is TOO GOOD!!!!!! loved it since the first audition. i´m very anxious to know the answer about this one. i loved the groove and the chorus. i gotta have this!! 4) this reminds me Jacques Loussier but i know it´s not him because of the violin. very beautiful song. my father will love this one. 5) not my cup of tea specially the vocals 6) i know the song but dunno who is playing. very conventional, nicely played. 7) did nothing for me. i´ve skipped it very quickly 8) what an incredible voice! probably is the father of a bass player like the Pastorious one very good this one 9) this reminds me my Ivory Coast time. not for me 10) didn't liked this one. the drums solo is not that inventive. when the guitar player plays this known melody it´s better. 11) skipped very fast 12) this reminds me Michael Hedges on Windham Hill Records. 13) i´m gonna hate myself not identifying this voice....gosh...but it´s good!! 14) did nothing for me 15) nice solo and great song of course! 16) the guy sings so bad....the song is fine but maybe too long... so far i know that Ray is very eclectic! Disc II 1&2) not my cup of tea 3) i have this one as far as i remember 4,5 & 6) not for me 7) i remember The Manhattan Transfer doing this!! 8) did nothing for me 9) this one sounds interesting. liked this one! 10) yeah!! 11&12) i´m not an enthousiastic for this kind of jazz but i do respect 13) i´m clapping my hands 14) ..... 15) this song is so great. Benson doing this stills my favorite one. i´ll give my respect ever to James Moody for this one. 16) i love this song from Ellington but not that performance 17) Ray is really having fun with Disc 2. i can imagine himself dancing around the floor 18) interesting 19) i can imagine the reaction of some people of this board listening to Disc II.... 20-25) i gave up..... Ray, thanks for your effort! i´ll probably won't be listening to this particular BFT a lot but i still appreciate your hard work. i'm sure you had a blast doing Disc II! Marcus
