  1. So you agreed not to buy HER anything. You could still get YOURSELF something right? My wife recently bought some photos of our youngest that were a bit more expensive than expected. (I'm ashamed to even give the amount) She has stated that this will be her Christmas present. I have been married 7+ years and know darn well I'll be in a load of trouble if I don't get her a gift! But beyond that I would miss out on giving her something special. I've got a couple things so far she's really going to like. (After 7+ years I'm starting to figure her out.) All that said, Jim, you gotta get her SOMETHING. Even if it isn't much or you make it yourself (You could write her a song.) It really is the thought that counts and in this difficult time it will mean that much more to her. Remember The Gift of the Magi?
  2. Donovan, McBride, Reyna, Beasley and Keller better start eating their Wheaties!! (As I typed that it dawned on me that with Kasey Kellar in the goal you've always got a chance!)
  3. Good draw for England, Not too bad for Australia, Good for Germany, Good for Mexico, Bad for US The US will be lucky if they secure the second spot and then they get to play the winner from Group F - likely Brazil! If England wins their Group they get Group A runner up - likely Poland. Looks like I'll have to root for my second team - Spain who also got a favorable draw and could face the likes of South Korea or Switzerland in the first knockout round.
  4. Kenny you'll have to hope for Spain and T and T because they won't put T and T in a group with Mexico.
  5. If the surface is damaged you could try a disc scratch remover or the budget version which is to polish it with toothpaste. I have restored several unplayable discs with this technique.
  6. Yes I was very suprised to see Dial S For Sonny before Sonny's Crib.
  7. It's all about the draw! The fate of the US team lies in the hands of lady luck. With possiblities ranging from Brazil, Netherlands, Tunisia, US to Spain, Togo, Switzerland, US and all posiblities in between. I never thought I'd be this excited about awaiting the draw but I'm nervous! I think it comes down to who the US ends up with from Pot 3. All of those teams are good but obviously some would be very tough to beat, especially in Europe. If the the US can pull out a victory against their opponent from Pot 3, then they can advance. Hopefully to face Mexico! (Before anyone gets too excited, I'm not saying we are better than Spain, but they do have a tendency to lose game they shouldn't and I would be very pleased to be on the receiving end of a gift from the Spaniards. )
  8. Nearly 150 titles in the series and no John Patton or Curtis Fuller as a leader. Only one Kenny Burrell. Any other suprising omissions (or inclusions for that matter? Freddie Redd, Cecil Taylor)
  9. OUCH!! My LSU Tigers' luck ran out last night and they were dominated by Georgia. I didn't really think they were the 3rd best team in the country and I certainly didn't want any part of USC or Texas but I thought they had a shot against Georgia for the SEC title.
  10. I wish I hadn't seen that. The game is televised at 1PM today and I am going to watch it. On the other hand I'm more than pleased to hear it. He came so close in the last match and it's been several matches since he's scored I have been fearing for his position on the team.
  11. I picked up a little DRIVE 20 watt amp with reverb for my niece who is interested in playing guitar. Right now she has one of my guitars and has been rehashing a couple things I tried to show her last time they were in town. I got a small scale guitar for her on ebay which SUCKED! Despite its claims of being a "real" guitar and not a toy, it was totally unplayable out of the box. I was able to salvage it to some extent but it required relocating the nut and the bridge! Anyway, back to the amp. I got this DRIVE amp from Musicians Friend for $59. I sprung the extra $10 to add reverb. I gotta say for the money, this is a good little amp. Clean sound is OK, better with the reverb and I was able to get a good variety of distortion as well. It's as good as the comparable Peavey, Squire and Fender models that I've played through and a lot cheaper! So if your looking, give it a chance. I'm thinking about getting one for myself.
  12. I saw this thread earlier but I was too emotional to post. My eyes are filled with tears of joy! At long last my fair Gigolo will be released. (I'm trying not to get my hopes up as its release has been announced before.) Looks like another good group. Tomcat, Swingin' Affair, Joyride, Smokestack, Workout. I've got quite a few of these but you know I loves me some RVGs and will upgrade them all!!
  13. This is another pet peeve of mine: Why is Mexico considered to have a better chance of winning than the US. We are their superior of late and have only lost to them once since we beat them in the World Cup and that loss came at Azteca Stadium 2-1. Unless the WC is held as Azteca, I'll take the Yanks everytime.
  14. Maybe he'll come play in the MLS. I think Real Salt Lake could use a good midfielder.
  15. I wasn't basing that opinion on one result. It's a marathon and not a sprint to qualify out of South America. It takes more than just one lucky result make the cut.
  16. Red, I guess the most obvious example of lack of respect for US players in the EPL to me would be Fulham. Yes, they have two Americans on the roster but they are continually trying to replace them because, "if we're playing Americans, we must be weak in that position." Fulham has acquired no less than 4 strikers since McBride's arrival. All he's done is produce goals both by scoring and setting up others yet they are continually trying to replace him! Carlos Bocanegra was played out of position at left back until their center backs were so horrible (including English national Zat Knight) they had no other choice but to play him and he's performed well. He and Goma are holding down the middle with much more success. By the way, they brought in Jensen and Christianval to replace him as well. The Fulham board is full of fans who don't appreciate what these guys do for their team.
  17. I don't what kind of bogus point system they use to determine these rankings but I promise you the US is NOT in the top ten best national teams. I think they are probably in the top 20 and at that level on a given day they can beat just about anyone. Similarly, Australia could beat just about anyone on a given day as well, but they would do it as underdogs. To say they would not be underdogs against the US shows that you either haven't seen the US with its top team playing a game that mattered (I will remind you about outplaying the Germans in 2002 despite the 1-0 scoreline) or you've taken the European view that Americans suck at football no matter what contributions they make to Europeans teams, or results they get at the international level. How do you figure the Aussies to be favorites over Ecuador and Paraguay who qualified ahead of Uruguay whom you scraped out a win with PKs? I also think you underestimate a few of those European teams. Anyone who qualifies out of Europe is playing some good football.
  18. Biggest suprise for me are the African teams, no Nigeria, no Cameroon, no South Africa I'm glad to see the new teams from Africa though and also Australia, Trinidad / Tobago and especially the return of the Netherlands. Looking at the list I put the US in the middle of the pack. Despite their top 10 FIFA ranking, I wouldn't bet on the US against any of the European teams.
  19. I assume the lack of a song list on my desk is merely an oversight on your part and the project is moving along smoothly. Yes? Are we getting any songs this year? Any hints at which ones? Do you think you'll be able to get a disc out or are we looking at more downloads? (I'm just trying to plan my holiday compilation)
  20. Christmas Cookin' is on the way!! It's arrival will be the symbolic beginning of the Christmas season for me. Time to break out the Joe Pass - Six String Santa and Merry Ol' Soul and the Organissimo tunes!
  21. Ok, I don't want to mislead anyone. This is a local rec league. Just for fun. That's my point, it feels good no matter how small! I played in a rec league 11 v 11 a couple years back and we initially sucked but after a few good recruits were a bit more competitive. I'm not a sore loser and still enjoyed playing. But winning is GREAT!!
  22. No matter how old you get or how much you play, it always feels good to win! Today, my indoor soccer team ended the season atop the table. 10 games without a loss. Today's match was a winner take all against the second place team. It was a hard fought match that ended in a 3-3 draw (we were up 3-0) so since there was no winner to take it all we held on to first place.
  23. Today I met an actual Buddhist monk. No kidding. I couldn't begin to reproduce his name and unfortunately, I was unable to communicate with him as much as I would have liked because his interpreter didn't seem to understand me too well. I was impressed by this guy who is 38 or 39 y/o who came to our area from Laos, lives in the Buddhist temple here, which I have got to go see (What does an Arkansan Buddhist Temple look like?) He is the only monk in the area, speaks very little English and is almost completely alone in a country which must seem very foreign to him. Don't know why I'm sharing other than meeting him really seemed significant to me for some reason.
  24. You can check out the Fambrough HERE That list I posted was just something I found on line. The store here has a few not on the list and is missing a couple as well but for the most part, it's pretty representative of what's available.
