  1. I'm going to use the Mighty Mites that came out of the M800. That's what Cort puts in their higher end models. They have three leads so I'm going to put in a pull / push pot for a coil tap. I usually don't care for coil taps but I was so impressed with the range of tones coming from my new Cort that I thought I'd give it a try in this one. The upgrade will essentially make this guitar a Cort M520 except with a bolt on neck and a different body material (Agathis - whatever that is). With a set neck, if it's good it's good but if it's bad, your screwed. A BAD bolt on neck however can be shimmed and made to be better.
  2. Of course if it plays nicely and sounds good I might have trouble parting with it. By the way, those M200s have a MSRP of about $250. I paid $102 (including shipping!.) I admit it, I'm a CHEAP GUITAR JUNKIE!!
  3. ...in the end it will look like this guitar.
  4. OK, auction ended, I'm a WINNER!!! I'm going to take this guitar and upgrade the cosmetics, pickups and electronics to the level of the higher Cort models. Then resell it.
  5. You give the guy a couple Righteous Buddha discs and next thing you know he's roadtrippin' to Nawlins!! That Mardi Gras beat is infectious! (so are most people on Bourbon Street ) My advice 1) no polyester (too hot) 2) don't bet against anyone who says he can tell you where you got your shoes. (They are on your feet!) 3) go to the aquarium in the heat of the day 4) eat often - when in New Orleans I try to eat about 5 meals a day in order to get as much of the good stuff as I can. (Like smoking cigars while in Cuba) Sample: breakfast (eggs, grits, french toast) morning snack (Cafe Du Monde for beignets and coffee) lunch (seafood in the quarter - Brennan's is a favorite of mine (gumbo yaya) afternoon snack (shrimp po-boy - cocktail sauce not mayo!) dinner (steak covered with lump crabmeat - Mister Bs) 5) check the listings of musical acts when you get there- sometimes the Howlin' Wolf or other smaller venues will have better acts than Tip's or the bigger ones. You just never know. 6) don't drink the water (a quick look at the locals' teeth should convince you) 7) plenty of hand sanitizer (use often!) 8) enjoy yourself but be careful / cautious (I'm telling a New Yorker to be careful )
  6. Hey Joe, where you going with that gun in yo' hand? I mean... Hey Joe, did the Alleykat arrive? I've really got the guitar bug now. I am really liking the Cort . I have been playing more lately and am getting my technique back. I actually have a bid on another guitar on Ebay! I have this vision (read delusion) of buying cheap guitars, junk guitars and upgrading them or fixing them and reselling them. Not to make money but for the fun of working on guitars and hopefully I can support the hobby by reselling them. I can't give away the details of my first project because the auction is still in progress. But soon enough... Project two would probably be to build a custom tele with humbuckers and a LP junior bridge/tailpiece.
  7. This is why I have MSN as my homepage. Quality stuff Mullet Music
  8. I didn't realize Joey D was only 32!
  9. That's great news about opening for JOEY D! Congratulations! How's this new manager at... how shall I say it... persuading! Because I've got a plan. Slip Mr D a mickey while you are backstage during the gig. He awakes in your basement (happens to be a studio with a B3) and is held for a ransom of a couple tracks for the next album with you and he going toe to toe on a tune like JOS in tribute to Jimmy. He's played right into our trap... don't let him go! If your new manager doesn't have the stomach for that kind of thing, you know where to reach me!
  10. Yeah, our neighborhood is very friendly. If this is the case then word will get to Tina who will send out an email to everyone and we'll get it back. Then again about a year ago some teens on the prowl took a purse and diaper bag (WTF) out of our car while it was in our garage and took my wife's cell phone. So you never know.
  11. I see what you mean, I was going for more of the Charlie Brown missing the football for the 100th time. I just walked about the first 1/2 of the route. I think if it made it that far, it probably made it to the mall where someone could have taken it off the bumper. My current theory is it fell off on our block and someone picked it up. (lots of walkers today)
  12. I actually drove all the way to the mall following my wife's route but no luck. I was hoping to at least salvage the minidrive. I really thought I was going to find it at the end of my driveway. Nope!
  13. I just left our digital camara (3.1 megapixel with IBM mini drive to hold 250 high resolution pictures - prices have come down but this thing cost me a grand new) on the bumper of our SUV. Remembered putting it there about 5 minutes after my wife left to go to the store!! Stupid! Stupid! STUPID!!! There is no smiley that conveys the anguish I feel. Thanks for listening. Actually talking about it hasn't helped a bit. AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
  14. Another fun tune with great playing! Keep it up my man!

    Buddy Guy

I just saw Buddy Guy get inducted to the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame. I think it's well deserved recognition for one of the pioneers of electric blues guitar and rock guitar. I was glad to see he has finally lost the Jerry Curl!! He looks more like a old bluesman now that he's bald.
  16. I think Joe hit the nail on the head. When I first started, I would leave imprints on my fingers from fretting the strings so hard. Much harder than needed. I always noticed how lightly my teacher played. His fingers just resting across the strings. Using the whole finger to depress the strings rather than just the tips. Since then, I have heard other guitarist striving to play with the "light touch" or "quick touch." Playing in this fashion is faster, more economical, less tiring and generally promotes more fluid playing than bearing down with all your might. That being said, a certain amount of strength is needed, especially for playing chords for a long time.
  17. There was a time when I couldn't get enough of Gilmour's tone. Even got the solo records self titled and About Face... However, all things must pass. Now an ocassional listen to Wish You Were Here and Dark Side is all I need. Actually the live set PULSE is pretty good. It has a live Dark Side as well some of their greatest songs like "Comfortably numb" (my personal favorite,) "Learning To Fly," "Wish You Were Here," "Shine On Crazy Diamond," "Another Bick In The Wall" If I could only keep one Floyd, it would be this one.
  18. Oh gee, I don't why Miles didn't like white people?

    BASRA

I'm sorry, how insensitive of me. What's the 411 on that Pete LaRoca RVG?

    BASRA

Whats the 411 on the BASRA RVG? Any updates? Anyone getting European versions?
  21. Randissimo, I just sent you a PM about kickin' some more ass!
  22. It is big, but not THAT big. That was the humorous effect I was going for.
  23. I was waiting for someone to jump on that one! What took you so long?
  24. It's a good book for me. Really helping with getting familiar with a lot of chords. Also, there's a lot of instruction on soloing that looks helpful although I haven't really jumped into any of it yet. My goal right now is to be able to open my fakebook and be able to comp on most tunes. Then I will start expanding my soloing beyond the basics blues stuff. Now that I've got the right pick, I'm on my way!
