  1. Well, that didn't take me long... String are off, bridge and tailpiece off, pickups out, pots hanging out of F holes. I just can't leave a new guitar alone! Tonight I'm prepping for the real setup tomorrow (my wife and kids are going to grandmas for the weekend (any better time to get a new guitar?)) Refinish in seafoam green burst (just checking to see if you are paying attention - I don't do finishes) Install pickups New strings Set action Adjust truss rod Set intonation My secret to getting a new guitar to play well... set it up per recs for a Fender strat regardless what type of guitar it is. Then tweak it from there. Getting the most out of a guitar is half the fun for me. I think I would really enjoy being a luthier.
  2. Put me on your list. By the way, the Cort M800 arrived today! It is a nice piece. The finish is beautiful. Some of the hardware seems a little "light." Specifically the tuners and tailpiece. The pickups seem decent but I'll probably drop my Golden Age pickups in it this weekend which could be a challenge because there is no rear access. I guess I'll be working through F holes! The action needs a little tweak and maybe even a turn of the truss rod but the neck feels good. Straight out of the box it's a good playing guitar. It's light and well balanced. I think after a few minor adjustments this is going to be an excellent playing and sounding guitar. It will likely replace my Les Paul and my Broadway BOTH and be my main axe! If anyone's lookng for this style guitar I highly recommend scraping together your nickels and getting the one on Ebay with the Buy It Now of only $400!
  3. Ron, as an interediate player, I have found the two books I mentioned on THIS THREAD to be the most helpful. I've tried several others and the most common problem is big gaps in lessons. Lesson one: chord theory and fingerings Lesson two: 12 bar blues with jazz substitutions Lesson three: Utilizing the Hungarian minor in place of the Locrian mode when soloing over the iii dim, vi minor7, ix maj 11 jaba jaba jaba...
  4. Ron, what level player are you? Total beginner, intermediate, touring professional?
  5. Ok, the thrill is GONE! Some joker just listed an amp just like mine with their auction ending 30 min before mine!! My amp looks like it's in better shape and shipping is $5 cheaper but why did they have to do that? Wouldn't it be better to wait till mine was over. Do they know anything about supply and demand? To me it seems that ending before mine might make people think they could get a better deal on the later auction. But then again, I don't have an evil mind so I'm sure this is screwing me somehow!

    Feb 15 RVGs

Waaaaaaaaay back in fall I sold some disc that were coming out as RVGs, one of them TRUE BLUE. I had a Spanish release. Sold it on Half.com. Fast forward to today. I'm looking over some of my feedback on half.com and see that the guy who bought TRUE BLUE had preodered it so he didn't see the description that stated it was the Spanish version and he thought he was getting the Conn. So I email this guy to let him know I'll give him a refund if he sends the disc back or half his money if he keeps it. Needless to say he was quite shocked to hear from me 6 months later. Maybe not the quickest customer service but service non the less!!
  7. I think the actual word is "hungglide" Or is it "hangglid?" Actually, I think "hungglid" sounds the best.
  8. Isn't that from "Stairway to Heaven?"
  9. I'm with you. That guy is one cool customer. He must've seen combat or something. I think the the average human would've been absolutely hysterical. (With good reason I might add)
  10. Well, I could've predicted this would happen. The exact same guitar I just got on ebay is available now for almost a $100 less! $399 for this baby is a steal! BUY IT NOW $399
  11. I just won an Ebay auction for the PRS SE soapbar model. Luckily, I didn't meet the reserve so I don't have two guitars in the works.
  12. Until the day the family sold his car. My grandfather insisted on leaving the windows of his Buick cracked so his car wouldn't explode! Never did, so I guess he was right! Similarly, if the bass had F holes it probably would be OK
  13. Worse than that, we've got 3 daughters, two of them have dolls already. Of course the dolls have friends. You can also order a custom doll that looks like you and can get matcing outfits for you and your doll. It's scary!
  14. Does anyone know about this? AMERICAN GIRL dolls. Nice little overpriced dolls that come from periods in American History (we have Kit (1930s) and Molly (1940s) They come with a set of books that are actually pretty good at teaching about different eras in our country's history. They also have furniture, clothes, pets, etc from the stories. My 5 yr old talks about Kit and her family like they are real people. My wife ordered Kit's rolltop desk and swivel chair as well as her typewritter. (All with amazing detail) But what does a doll need a $70 rolltop desk for! PARENTS BEWARE: IF AN AMERICAN GIRL SPAM APPEARS IN YOUR EMAIL OR A CATALOG APPEARS IN YOUR MAILBOX, DESTROY IT IMMEDIATELY. NO GOOD CAN COME FROM KEEPING IT!! (At first my wife said the girls just like to look at it. She and I had a few good laughs about the furniture and outrageous prices. Next thing I know there's a rolltop desk at my front door!)
  15. OK, I just got back from the gig. Overall, it was great! Packed house. The tour has had a month to develop and I think most of the kinks are gone. Brecker still had a music stand and actually Herbie had some notes on the keyboard (couldn't see if they were computer settings or music charts. The laptop has now been replaced by 2 Apple IMACs that were donated by Apple for the tour. Herbie still did a lot of fiddling with it, especially early on. Herbie was wearing some sort of computer device and had a visible wire running up his suit. At times he was playing piano but it was generating synth sounds?? Brecker announced the songs halfway through: 1 A "deconstructed" Dolphin Dance (Hancock) 2 Brown (Hancock) 3 Loose Threads (Brecker) 4 Poet (Hargrove) 5 Pinnochio (Shorter) 6 ?? ... Encore Chameleon (more later) Carrington was impressive. I've never seen a drummer from the "Tony Williams school" live before. There really is a telepathy between she and Hancock. Really the whole band navigated the many changes well. Brecker was solid. I was errantly recalling Late's comment about him sounding like Coltrane and thinking to myself "This is Shorter all the way." On rereading the post, we agree. The EWI thing was entertaining and fun and like he said, the crowd liked it. Hargrove for me was the highlight! Wearing the suit, with the short hair, playing the way he was, I kept thinking "This is the closest I'll ever get to seeing Miles live." On his tune "Poet," which is a tribute to Miles, he used the fluegelhorn and nailed the Davis vibe without imitating as Quincey said. Hargrove's tone is beautiful, even while playing fast runs and nailing the high notes. He had two mics set up, one equipt with effects which he used well. After nailing solos he would swagger off stage remniscient of a young Mike Tyson going back to his corner after another early round knockout. All of the tunes went through LOTS of changes and many times I thought I was listening to BITCHES BREW. They would be pretty far "out" then suddenly drop into a heavy funk beat. I loved it! My wife however... she admitted later that during the first song she didn't thnk she was going to be able to listen to the whole thing. I think there were a lot of folks in the crowd who felt the same way. HH droped the Jazz bomb on Fayetteville!! Now a moment of embarassment... for the encore, the band returned to the stage. A girl down the aisle yells "Bring on the funk!" (I think she wanted to hear "Rockit." Another guy call from the back "Chameleon" ( I am cringing, hoping they don't hear.) Hargrove actually looked to the crowd, rolling his eyes and mouthing the words "Please, no." Brecker starts off with the Chameleon theme, but in a post-bop style. I'm thinking the band has gotten their revenge on this crowd. Eventually, they work their way around to the Headhunters and the crowd is lovin' it. Clapping, cheering, headbobbing and the song ends to a great ovation. Even my wife commented that the musicians must feel bad when the crowd wants to hear their old stuff more than the new. She made the comparison to Peter Frampton, who I hear gets booed when he tries to play anything other than Framptom Comes Alive. Well, that's how I saw it. By the way Herbie was brilliant! Somehow I failed to mention that. It was a great show overall, if you get chance, SEE IT!
  16. Johnnie's mother knocks on the bathroom door where little Johnnie has been for quite a while and says "You know, if you don't stop that you'll go blind" Johnnie replies "Can I at least do it until need glasses?" B-)
  17. Is there any bigger rush (excluding crack) than selling something on Ebay? What is it that makes it so exciting? Last night I listed my Danelectro Dirty Thirty amp. They are out of production and I thought there might be some pent up demand. Since listing it, I have checked on the bidding a least a dozen times. There are 6 days, 11 hours left and I've gotten one bid and met my reserve and I am absolutely giddy. Why is this such a thrill?
  18. I like the name change. You could be someone's favorite B3 player and they may not even know your real name. Got to get ready for that solo career. (If your ever in need of my managerial expertise as sampled on Soul Stream's thread , let me know Anyway, that's not what this thread is about. It's about you, and specifically your listed hobbies. Namely, woodworking. My father is one of the few woodworkers I know who has all his digits! If he were to lose a finger he may have to pick his nose differently (sorry Dad) but really no big deal. If YOU, however, lose a finger or two, no B3 virtuosity and you and the world are changed forever! Consider this an intervention, Jim Alfredson and woodworking are two words I never want to see together again. Understand? Thank you, Scott
  19. Not yet, I'm going to wait and see how the new Cort works out. It may replace the Les Paul, the Broadway, both or neither. I'll just have to see. If it can get all Angus Young on me then the Paul is gone. If it has a good jazz tone I may get rid of the Broadway, even though it's playing better, simply because the Cort will probably be more comfortable to play.
  20. I like them all but I REALLY like the ones with Curtis Fuller.
  21. It's a Cort M800. It's a step above the M600 that I posted earlier. Obviously it is a semihollow body. It received rave reviews from Guitar Player and was chosen as the "Editor's Choice" I got to thinking about that PRS soapbar and really the only thing it had going over the Corts was the name and that cool bridge / tailpiece combo. It didn't have the carved top like a "real" PRS and the Corts do. I got it for less than the PRS as well. It lists for $850 but I got mine on Ebay for just under $500. It's a new guitar from a dealer who will accept it back if I'm not totally satisfied.
  22. See what you did! I hope you all are happy! I am cause this is on the way to my house!
  23. Here's my little family. 1 Epiphone Les Paul Standard with Honey burst finish - put original pickups back in last night. (Not sure why) 2 Danelectro DC59 reissue in Limo Black 3 Epiphone Broadway with Vintage Sunburst finish 4 Fender American Standard Strat in black 5 Custom made hardtail Strat with 3 color sunburst finish, Seymour Duncan classic stack pickups, Squire neck As you can see I prefer rosewood fingerboards and either sunburst or black finishes
