  1. The Joachim Kühn Actuels are both very good.
  2. Yeah, post-tonal modern composition. Puig has a really nice one on Philips with the Percussions de Strasbourg as well. Technically there are five “contemporary” Actuels: Puig, Acting Trio, Pierre Mariétan/GERM, and the two Musica Elettronica Viva LPs. The second MEV is really a Spacecraft record, though — French kosmische/Krautrock-adjacent music. It is very, very good.
  3. Yeah, for sure — that accident probably kept him alive by curtailing his appetite for substances. The only Softs member I ever saw live was Daevid Allen, but I’m thankful for that experience at least.
  4. RIP. Very sad to hear this; the Softs were really something else. Robert Wyatt is the only surviving original member, though I understand he’s in pretty rough shape these days.
  5. Thanks for the quick fix! All good now.
  6. having this issue across different browsers, so whoever handles such updates should probably be contacted. Not only on the forum homepage, but also subforums — getting an expired security certificate before proceeding.
  7. never heard Another Unity. Intrigued.
  8. Nice. I still hope the complete Town Hall concert gets a proper issue someday. Have some of these boots but not all of them. More with Yoko would be cool to hear.
  9. yeah, I too thought the tapes were gone. Maybe not all? Who knows; the label has never been exactly forthcoming with details.
  10. Neat music that I'm glad to have. Not something I put on deck often, but glad it's available to hear.
  11. Could be interesting -- the process of writing about music from different perspectives is something that seems valuable.
  12. Nice one! Have this as a Japanese Epic pressing from, I believe, the 70s.
  13. thanks for this. Yeah, a few things I need to scoop.
  14. Jonas Kullhammar founded it, though he may not run it today. I'll admit to not being as caught up as I was 15 years ago.
  15. Right. Well put. I like the Japanese LPs better. The Blue Note material is okay, but I think I preferred the trio tracks (like "Drone", as an example). It has been a while. The ECM felt a little stiffer to be honest, though at the time, when I was like 19-20, the parallel interests I had in Dolphy/Coltrane/Ayler/Cecil and Stockhausen/Berio/Webern found a strong footing in Circle. There's other Braxton I prefer, of course, but those records are pretty important. Will have to dig them out as it's been close to 25 years since they were on deck!
  16. so all this stuff is from the tapes, huh? If Charly has the tapes, I wonder if some of the unissued material survived? There's an additional piece from Luna Surface, an unissued Sunny Murray (which has a more complex story), a missing Mal Waldron track, and probably more. Lowe thought the pianist was Dave Burrell, so it might be either/or.
  17. Well done! Yes, AAJ does take stuff from elsewhere online and republish it without consulting the authors. Nor do they pay people despite their ad revenue. But my kvetching is probably better served in another thread
  18. Live in German Concert and Gathering, both issued on CBS-Sony in Japan only. Yeah, you're right about the Blue Note material too, forgot about that -- scattered over two double album sets in various configurations under Corea's name. I like those.
  19. Neat looking and probably excellent sound, but the Delmarks will set you back far less for both than for one volume of the Sam version.
  20. One of my favorite ESP jazz records. I have an original but would love to get the Japanese with obi "just for fun." It's hard to come by. The Circle stuff was foundational for me and though all have done work elsewhere that I engage with more, I have a hard time cutting those three records loose.
  21. Thanks for the rec; didn't realize that was actually released, saw some clips from the concert online.
  22. yeah, this well predates his ECM involvement. Mine just landed via Bandcamp; excited to listen when the malaise lifts.
  23. yeah, it is -- confirmed by family, major loss.
