  1. Does Jazz Messengers even ship to the US now?
  2. nice record, that Silkheart. I have it on LP.
  3. I have owned the original LP for many years and was pleasantly surprised by the sonics on the remaster, which I’ve only listened to digitally — it really jumps out at you and has a lot of detail. I think folks will be impressed by the job Frederiksberg have done, even if they’re familiar with this music.
  4. Michel Portal, 90! Had a great experience interviewing him c. 2004, and saw him perform a few concerts around that time as well. This is a favorite: Also born today: Eddie South, Wilber Morris, Don Sleet, Lyle Mays, Joris Teepe, Jacky Terrasson, and Wessell Anderson.
  5. cool. It's not up on their bandcamp yet, nor have I received an email announcement. Maybe tomorrow.
  6. I understand that Brubeck was a really nice guy, so it wouldn’t be a surprise at all if he’d taken the gig for fun (too bad she hung up so hastily).
  7. This piece by Jim Feast, inspired by my book (& other things) is up on Jazz Right Now; I recall him working on it in late 2023/early 2024, but not being able to find a home for it. Honored & glad it eventually found space at JRN: https://www.jazzrightnow.com/thoughts-on-clifford-allens-singularity-codex-matthew-shipp-on-rogueart/ (& yes, I still have a handful if anyone is interested)
  8. Too bad. The Harder They Come is an awesome movie.
  9. Toshiko Akiyoshi Quartet -- Toshiko in Japan -- Liberty Japanese orig
  10. yeah, I pronounce(d) it the second way. the first, I guess, is more correct according to that site (and sounds pretty good). I was kind of surprised that, in Danish, Bent Axen is pronounced just like it looks!
  11. I'd like to know about that as well, though I expect it is nice. DeFever is certainly a well-regarded mastering engineer (& musician).
  12. I've heard good things about her, so oughta do myself the favor of giving her a listen.
  13. yeah, I like that too -- have the original LP, but not heard the remaster (I don't think).
  14. Very nice! I saw him a few years later with his working quartet. Now: Association P.C. - Rock Around the Cock - MPS German original
  15. Haven’t read Cole’s Miles but I did read his Coltrane bio. Bill Cole is also a very interesting musician! Saw his Untempered Ensemble a couple of times.
  16. Yeah, I have that Jackie. Cool artwork indeed.
  17. I imagine the British jazz reissue programme cued up to the "Bring out your dead" sequence in The Holy Grail...
  18. I got pretty annoyed with Iverson's list as it touched on anything after about 1959. It *seemed* fine where earlier recordings are concerned.
  19. I can't really give details but as far as I know all the basic work is done and it is awaiting manufacture. It's done with the cooperation of Tyler's (rather confusing) estate.
  20. Yep. A reissue is coming, from the tapes.
  21. I've been revisiting Alvin Fielder's A Measure of Vision (Dennis González, Chris Parker, Aaron González, Stefan González) recently and think it's one of the label's finest.
  22. other than the Grant, I have all those that you've posted on LP. Excellent.
