  2. Anybody in NY know if there's a record store with a VPI or similar cleaning machine? I need to get a few of the babies washed...

  3. Never saw that cover before. Different from the old LP I used to have or the CD I have now. Evidently changed to cash in on his Columbia popularity. Just picked this up in mint condition at a thrift for $1.50. From what I read it's a 70's reissue. Nice sounding vinyl. I'm already familiar with the material. Great stuff. Originally on New Jazz, IIRC. Quite individual vibes work from Al Francis, who in the mid-1980s made a fine trio record "Jazz Bohemia Revisited "on an obscure label Lost Cosmic Unity with bassist John Neves and drummer Joe Hunt. And here it is, mirable dictu: http://www.myspace.com/jazzbohemia One of my all time favorites, that Ellis record. I have it on the New Jazz pressing.
  4. I need to give this one a spin. I liked the preceding disc by this quartet a lot (even tho usually not a Ducret nut).
  5. Sad to hear this; he was one of my dad's favorites. RIP.
  6. Stonedhenge and Watt are very good albums. RIP.
  7. I suppose those Charles Austin/Joe Gallivan records would work, though Gallivan plays a variety of non-"kit" percussion and synths.
  8. Acting Trio - s/t - (BYG Actuel)
  9. Giuseppi Logan - Quartet - (ESP, stereo)
  10. Shit, sorry to hear this! He was/is great. RIP.
  11. MG is correct, the organissimo version is great.

  13. Alert world: I have a cold.

  14. The Roscoe residency includes a duo concert with Alvin Fielder. This will be their first time playing together since 1969.
  15. Yeah, I threw it on as a result of this thread and it still holds up - good record.
  16. It's good. Kenyatta is on tenor for the most part; the 1969 concert recordings (w/ Mouzon, Willis and Booker) are a little lo-fi but it's interesting to hear him on the instrument. He sounds quite different phrase-wise/tonally, somewhat Shepp-like at times. The duo w/ Muhal is short (at like 5') but gorgeous. If you see it for $10 or so (maybe less), grab it. It's rarely an item priced much more than that, truthfully.
  17. I saw this ensemble in January at the Stone. It was excellent.
  18. Anyone know the name of the person who books Joe's Pub in NYC? I like to address things to "actual humans" rather than "Yo Sucka" or whatever else I'd normally use. DM me please.

  19. Paul Gonsalves - Tell It the Way It Is! - (Impulse, mono)
  20. Jef Gilson - New Call from France - (Saba)
  21. Ah yes, that is an excellent record. I had forgotten it has two bassists: Eberhard Weber and Karl Theodor Geier (who's on some Gruntz records IIRC).
