  1. Ubu: The Surman is complete save one track I believe. It's a solid album-length performance, so I'm not sure what you're thinking.
  2. The town has a gift shop that sells things like shot glasses, miniature fishermen holding "Dildo" signs, etc. It's beautiful country up there.
  3. Close then.. When my parents visited Newfoundland several years ago they returned with a bunch of town memorabilia from Dildo...
  4. NP: Ut - Griller - (Blast First!)
  5. Yep. I've had trouble finding an exact birthdate - anyone got that info?
  6. Yeah, my copy of that Oxley is fine. The Baptised Traveller is a bit crackly in the quiet parts of "Stone Garden" but dealable. The LP material on Odyssey was previously on The Collection (Cadence) and Bill Dixon 1982 (Edizioni Ferrari). If I recall correctly the Fore material is not on Odyssey as there have been problems licensing it from Splasch, who bought the Fore catalog. The unissued Fore triple LP, In the Sign of the Labyrinth, is a current interest for publication but again, it's tied up in another label's vaults.
  7. Sorry to hear this. She was/is excellent.
  8. Tony Oxley - Four Compositions for Sextet - (CBS, UK)
  9. Really sorry to learn that clarinetist Rozanne Levine passed away in June. Her recordings are all excellent and though we never met person, I always enjoyed corresponding with her. A very cool woman whose art will live on - may she rest in peace.

  10. Yeah, this was a drag to learn today. Great player, nice lady.
  11. Yes, both volumes are essential.
  12. Someone I know on FB - can't remember who - was looking for a fresh copy of the Acting Trio on BYG Actuel (Maté, Maurice, Sabar). Vogel Music International has one for sale on Discogs in good nick. Just puttin' that out there.

  13. Oh yes, that Cooper record is great. I don't have his other solo on Anima, alas.
  14. Dark - Round the Edges - (SIS/Machu Picchu reissue)
  15. Velvet Underground - White Light/White Heat - (Verve blue label stereo) RIP to artist Walter De Maria, also an early Velvets drummer.
  16. I have a stereo Japanese paper-sleeve edition from about 10 years ago (maybe more) that sounds really good.
  17. Yeah, I second Down in the Village and Late Spot at Scott's. The CD reissues just sound tremendous (tho I'd love to own the Fontana vinyl), whether or not you become an obsessive fan after hearing them. Mexican Green is a stone corker, too. The Tempo stuff is really nice but I think he came into his own in the '60s (I'm sure many would disagree with that statement, however). Another fine one is this set put out by the late Tony Levin: Addictive Tendencies
  18. Wow. Great set. I'm particularly fond of the book. I wish more of the Frank Wright set would surface, as it's particularly well-recorded.
  19. Haven't heard Oh, Pharoah Speak! in a million years.
  20. Trying to cram a brief history of the Spontaneous Music Ensemble into a two-CD review for Tiny Mix Tapes is a hell of an undertaking. More wine please.

  21. Staring down the barrel of a massive rent increase. I think we may be looking at the more southerly reaches of Brooklyn for the fall, as much as I dig being up in the northern parts. Any ideas/leads for a childless/petless couple for a 1.5 or 2 BR that is affordable and safe would be great.

  22. It's mostly always rewarding to read Iverson. But he can't get down into the insightful alleys the way Shipp does. Unless we're talking strictly mechanics. Especially with regard to the psychology of Black musicians from the more immediate past. Iverson just doesn't have the background to think about those things. He can respond to them sure, but he wont arrive at them on his own. Wish more things like this would pop up from time to time. Hey - I'm agreeing with a freelancer post!
  23. Thanks - looks promising. Now if they can start mining the Euro avant-garde vaults...
