  1. Maybe they're not for everybody (i.e., non-jazz, non-soul/funk) but I find it disheartening that the Natural Food and Birigwa CDs were almost unmovable - I have the original Seeds LPs and really enjoy them. The Birigwa is beautiful, in particular.
  2. They do a good job. I can vouch for the Smythes, the Jutta Hipp, the Yogi Jazz and the Dauner, all of which are superb. Need to pick up the Morrisey and Tracey titles, as well as that Bjarne Rostvold. The Sulieman was kind of a rough needle drop though it's a decent - if not great - album (there are other Swedish Jazz records with those personnel from the period that I prefer. YMMV). A few of these are sessions I have on vinyl and while I haven't heard the CDs, can recommend the music: Mangelsdorff, Bent Axen and Bent Jädig.
  3. Ah I didn't scroll up, now I see. Luke is a great dude.
  4. Whaddya mean too late? I'm sure it is still going on! The Ted Daniel is a killer album. I have it on LP and am glad Porter ensured its easier availability by putting it out on CD.
  5. Welcome back, Porcy. Indeed nice to have you back in the mix.
  6. Giant Henry - Big Baby - (Numero)
  7. University of Phoenix is a dubious institution but hey, kudos on the music! Great tune.
  8. Funny, I thought he had but Fujioka makes no mention of it (other than w/ Ayler at the funeral).
  9. From Wikipedia: Miles Davis, Larry Carlton, David Sanborn, and Paul Shaffer as street musicians
  10. Ed Askew - s/t - (ESP-Disk')
  11. I remember listening to it at the time and I remember Bley being rather prickly to her, to put it mildly.
  12. Orange! I did get a copy finally; it wasn't too expensive (tho missing the obi). Nice - if not earth-shattering - session.
  13. Yes, that Group disc is quite "good." I like to think that, alongside Arthur Blythe and David Murray, if Wynton was not the mainstream in the '80s this music most certainly would have been (in a sorta "what if" sense).
  14. Yeah, agreed. It could have been paired with Uhuru Na Umoja distortion free. Oh well.
  15. I've also had two otherwise M- copies of this record that have the same level of distortion. I'm willing to bet that they're all like this. To me it seems like the grooves weren't cut right. It's one of the rarest on the label and was probably only pressed once. I have every America Records "avant-garde" LP and a bunch of their Fantasy/Debut titles, and this is the only one I've encountered that has significant pressing issues. Sure, some of the recordings aren't top-grade but the wax and pressings are generally fine. Space Dimension is an outlier in this regard, which is unfortunate because it's a good session otherwise.
  16. For those who are so inclined (and I'm one of those, generally): Saturday, April 20, 2013 Ted Daniel and IBMC Two shows: 9 & 10:30pm Sista's Place, 456 Nostrand @ Jefferson (BK) Ted Daniel is performing with the International Brass and Membrane Corps (IBMC). This group was conceived as a flexible and expandable creative music performance group, which utilizes instruments from the brass and membrane instrument families.

  17. What the hell is going on in Boston?! Fingers crossed that Boston friends and their loved ones are all right. My mind reels at trying to conceive of this tragedy/insanity.

  18. Bernt Rosengren/Lasse Werner Quartet - Bombastica - (Jazzland, mono) I can't remember if this was cobbled together from Swedish EPs or not. My research has been inconclusive. Anyone know?
  19. ^ Strong statement above that I'm not sure I agree with, but I'm glad he has made the music he's made, and hope he's healthy, happy, and with us for years to come.
  20. Gotta love it when you realize that one of your gigs didn't send you a tax form but another one sent you two (thus making me think I had everything). Aargh.

  21. Great record; I have it on an East Wind Japanese pressing.
  22. Manfred Schoof - European Echoes - (FMP)
  23. Ut - Early Live Life - (Blast First!)
