  1. Funny to think of her as a "new talent." She's definitely been around, busy recording and touring for several years now. I haven't heard anything that has totally "struck" me but am hopeful that, as with anyone's, her music will someday hit me.
  2. Andrew White - Live in Bucharest - (Andrew's Music)
  3. This looks up my alley as well. I'll have to look into a copy - CD or otherwise.
  4. I really liked a lot of their earlier titles, especially the Porto jazz ones.
  5. "Blue" Gene Tyranny - Detours - (Unseen Worlds)
  6. Nice! I still don't have that Kazuko LP for whatever reason; it always looked interesting.
  7. Kenny Barron - Peruvian Blue - (Muse) The duet with Ted Dunbar on "Blue Monk" is worth the price of admission alone. Long been a favorite performance.
  8. For your delectition, just happened to come across Charles Fox's Gramophone Magazine review of this one.. Review What was the original US release label - was it Mainstream? Fair review, pretty much reflects my feelings too. Yes it's a Mainstream recording. Funny, I've always liked this album a lot.
  9. Nice - the only Wright leader LP I still need!
  10. with Gary Peacock and Turning Point also have some nice Motian bits.
  11. First time in my life, picked for a kickball team. Take that, grade school.

  12. Wow, wish I'd been there! Have little interest in Lovano's recordings from the ones I've heard, but I'm always game for dudes getting rugged.
  13. There's a first time for everything, including hearing Relatively Clean Rivers.

  14. The Elvin BNs are great. I passed on Genesis for years because of its goofy cover, but I picked up a nice original maybe two or three years ago for $5 and totally dig it.
  15. I've only seen the original of that LP one other time, in Dick Wright's collection. Absurdly rare.
  16. On the air from now until 10 PM tonight via Koop.org - tune in and get turned on!

  17. Good luck! I'm a little tight these days myself, else I'd jump on the HRS.
  18. Mine is a King and it sounds great.
  19. PM sent for a couple from the first list.
  20. I've got a real soft spot for Mohawk and the Cursons, but they are all very good records.
  21. If you could pry anything out of the Fontana and Polydor catalogs, there are some really incredible gems to be found. Many of the Dutch/UK Fontana titles that focused on American artists are held by Alan Bates, but I'm not sure how deep his ownership of the material goes. I was talking with another label guy who was trying to get pianist Jym Young's Puzzle Box reissued, for example, though I don't know if anything came to fruition with that. It's an excellent and virtually unheard 1966 Bay Area post-bop session that came out on International Polydor (Germany) a few years later. I mean, whether or not it's "peerless" I don't know, but it's really strong and swinging.
